Traditional Kintsugi process step1
Here is the traditional Japanese kintsugi method.
"Regular" kintsugi uses a fine 24Kt. gold powder. This is ideal for a piece that will mainly be looked at. (The fine gold will wear off if you polish it hard, so this is not ideal for items in heavy use.)
You can find out more about kintsugi, learn about classes, or commission repairs at www.urushi.info.

Here is the traditional Japanese kintsugi method. Process before step4 is same with regular method. "Premium" kintsugi uses larger particles of 24Kt. gold, which makes it durable and better suited for an item that will have daily use and wear. When pottery is available in plenty in Japan at reasonable price is it necessary to spend so much of time effort and money to fix a broken pot? Please post your comments thanks God bless you

    Old post, I know... but where did you buy your Urushi from? Even when I was in Japan, I couldn't track down Urushi other than raw or synthetic "urushi".

    Got to have steady hands for this! I loved watching the video, but that boring, repetitive music drove me crazy in five minutes and made me impatient for the video to go even faster and end sooner! I muted and was fine after that--thankfully there was not talking to miss. But I don't see the point in having music if it doesn't enhance the experience.

  • @zefdin101
    @zefdin101 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Because the crack is so linear, right down the center of the bowl and the bowl is basically a solid color on both inside and the outside, I think your choice to make the repair line ultra thin was very well done. It has the proper balance, a thicker, wider line would not have worked nearly so well. It’s beautiful, better than when it was new with no scars or damages.. it’s really a metaphor for life. The Japanese people and culture are beyond beautiful and amazing…
