Dehancer is the OFX plugin suite for film-like color grading, I recently approached them regarding their program since I was truly amazed by what other car creator have done with it.
So this is not a sponsored review since Dehancer and I agreed on being honest to you guys.
Lets talk first about final cut.
I have always been trying to replicate a film look on my videos to bring you the best car content I could make but, specially with final cut, it can be a very hard task to do so since we are lacking of film effects that actually works on every footage.
For the past 7 years I have been looking left and right to find assets around film look to replicate super 35 looks or vhs style filters. I always managed to find some that were acceptable but I was never truly happy with them since from projects to projects, the quality would vary.
Last year is the first time I have heard of Dehancer, most friends that used it told me that it was the next big thing after the democratization of Davinci Resolve among filmmakers.
I was glad to see it but since I am not working with Davinci, I never really had the possibility to see it by myself and try all the features.
Then I found out they made it for Final cut pro and let me tell you, I was instantly amazed by it (even with the trial version). Being able to give the look I was looking for in two clicks made me love this program. The only thing you got to do is drag the effect on a clip from you timeline and that's it, time to play with it.
This program also offer you the chance to choose your input footage which let you choose the brand of you camera, the model and the type of recording (slog, cinemode, etc). This option is much more advanced then the final cut input profile and much more precise in term of colors rendering.
This program let you also play with exposure, contrast and analogue range, color density and black and white points. You can then move over to the film grain effect, bloom effect (impact on you highlights and light sources to give them a soft effect) or the halation effect.
You also get access to defringe tool for simple and easy chromatic aberrations control, false Color output filter for visual quality control, basic set of conversion profiles for movie cameras, vignette effect with size, aspect, position and exposure control, lut generation module, complete native support of ACES pipeline, substractive color correction tool with exposure compensation and animated gate weave and film breath effects.
The pro version of Dehancer truly is a must have for any filmmaker trying to bring the film look into their projects in the most effective way. I truly appreciate the trust of Dehancer for letting me write a review of this program without being obligated to say good things about it, this is my honnest review and I hope the footage show you the capability of this amazing program.
