Ichigos power fluctuates wildly depending on his mental state, thats kinda his whole thing, and Gin is supposedly stronger than all the espada combined. Not sure how that works when vasto lordes are supposed to be above captain level even before the power boost from arrancar transformation but eh.

Let me put it like this, gin was able to walk amongst espadas as their superior, he beat everyone he ever fought against aside from Aizen and was the most ruthless tactician in the entire series. Ichigo in the state he was in at the time did not even stand a hope in hell of beating gin, hell gin was so strong he was the first person to ever actually hurt aizen

That's a bleach issue in general, they don't need to tell each other what their abilities are, but Tite Kubo for whatever reason won't let us learn how their powers work as the battle is happening.

There's a crucial weakness people usually miss about Soifon's shikai. Kubo created Bleach power system with a pretty simple, but great concept - there's a limit to your "hax" abilities, that is determined by difference of your reiatsu and that of the target. This is the reason Soifon is unable to kill Aizen with her double-tap. And this is something that is established pretty early on, i think the first with Kenpachi's introduction. The other weak spot is, ironically, highlighted in this very same battle - she is very vulnerable because her shikai forces her to be in extreme melee. Touch distance and "sword range" are very different things. So if the target is bigger reiatsu-wise, faster, or has anything that specifically punishes close-range (Hi there Barragan, again) - she is in a very bad spot. Fortunately, this is exact reason why her bankai is an IBM. It quite literally exact opposite of her shikai - limits her movement, has great range, forces her to keep that range from target, and turns double-tap into one-hit-kill (with a rare exceptions, high Barragan, again). So once again, it's not being powerful - she has very specific set of skills, that if pitted against targets that fit her set, would turn battle into joke. As you can see in this very video. This is why, because it's not just some sort of simulation, but an anime/manga, which has to be entertaining, author pits her against targets that are either equal-ish (Yoruichi) in the same set of skills, or force her to change the approach (Barragan, BG9).

@@seeinred yes and no. There are very few characters that have that much spiritual pressure to nullify her hax. Aizen might very well have the highest quantity of reiatsu..even without his reiatsu getting piled up within him in Muken, he was amongs thr top tier of shinigami when it came to pure reiatsu. Only true counter to soifon are, either dwarf her reiatsu or be much faster than her. Not a lot of characters can do that. Yes thr absolute top echleon like Zaraki, Yamaji, the five royal guard members, ichigo, aizen..can perhaps do that. Yoruichi might make it work purely because she is faster. Probably the schutzstaffel and Gremmy will be fine thanks to their absurd hax ablities. I ll give stark, barragan and segunda etapa Ulquiorra a pass too, either due to their speed or reiatsu level or pure hax like Baraggan that makes him unapproachable. But rest all fall to her...like...i know i m taking out a lot of prominent characters from this list but when you talk about the above characterz, you are talking about absolute beasts...most shinigamis dont even compare to them anyway. But these people make like 1% of the entire Bleach cast. Rest all can only rely on her luck, Kubo's intent with her plot and their skill to somehow survive her lol. I mean we all know urahara and mayuri would be fine. But while skilled, they dont have enough reiatsu to nullify her shikau from taking effect. And End of series soifon is definitely faster than both of them.
