North Cascade Lookouts: Sourdough Mt & Green Mt
มุมมอง 162ปีที่แล้ว
Trip Date: July 1-2, 2023 This weekend we tackled two of the North Cascades' most iconic lookouts. Sourdough Mt was a 4 mile hoof up 5,000 ft elevation, but soooo worth it. Views of Diablo and Ross Lakes, the jagged Northern Pickets, and iconic peaks such as Hozameen, Jack Mt, and Ruby Mt were phenomenal. Green Mt was..... green! The sprawling emerald slopes were crisscrossed with switchbacks u...
Snowshoeing at Mt Rainier on New Year's Day
มุมมอง 1Kปีที่แล้ว
Trip Date: Jan 1, 2023 In the winter, the gate up to Paradise doesn't open until 9am. Dad and I arrived at Longmire 20 minutes early and were the first in line, although people quickly started lining up. We started our snowshoeing adventure at the Paradise trailhead and got to Panorama Point within an hour. It was a perfect bluebird day and views of Rainier, Adams, Hood, St. Helens, and the Tat...
Backpacking at Mt Rainier National Park: Wonderland Trail: Longmire to North Puyallup River
มุมมอง 8022 ปีที่แล้ว
Trip Date: August 20-21 2022 This weekend Dad and I scored the only available campsite on the West side of Mt Rainier National Park, and embarked on a 40 mile, 2 day backpacking trip. Ideally we would have done a thru hike from Longmire to Mowich Lake, but couldn't arrange for a car shuttle, so settled with an out and back. Luckily this afforded us a second chance to see the views we missed out...
Summiting Vesper Peak in the North Cascades
มุมมอง 3.2K2 ปีที่แล้ว
Trip Date: August 24, 2022 Today Mom and I summited Vesper Peak, accessed from the Sunrise Mine Trail off the Mountain Loop Highway. It is only 4 miles to Vesper Basin, although the trail is very rough and rocky, with steep switchbacks up to Headlee Pass. Vesper Lake was still frozen over when we arrived at the basin. It is only a mile more up to the peak, though the trail is steep and requires...
Backpacking at Mt Rainier National Park: Northern Loop
มุมมอง 1.3K2 ปีที่แล้ว
Trip Date: July 30-31 Dad and I did the Northern Loop, which was 36.5 miles and 12,000 ft elevation in 2 days. The lupine, paintbrush, and beargrass were in peak bloom, and we sauntered through expansive alpine meadows. Day 1 we sashayed through Grand Park, descended to the West Fork White River, and then ascended to Windy Gap, where a jewel-like lake twinkled hello. Then we descended past Yell...

Is there a reason why you went on the loop clockwise instead of counterclockwise, to Eagles Roost, Carbon River, etc etc?

Beautiful place. Spent several days looking for a lost hiker "Samantha Sayers" who hiked up Vesper Peak. She was never found. RIP!!!

Thanks for advertising an already overcrowded place. Really helps ensure the mobs keep coming. Getting a permit has become virtually impossible. So super thanks.

Did the exact same hike in 1968, your weather was a lot nicer than ours, but the scenery, the beauty of that hike is unforgettable. And much of the trail looks exactly the same, although we spent 3 nights out there, and there was no Carbon Glacier campsite, so we camped at Mystic Lake. Cheers. Thanks for the wonderful memories.

Really nicely done video! 👍 The summit is fantastic, as is your editing. Both songs work perfectly, and your camera work is quite good also. Great, life-long memory for you and your mom! Awesome! 👏

Been up there many times over these 50 years, including on telemark skis. Can’t do this stuff anymore at 70, so thanks for your video. One comment which is perhaps a generational difference, but the mountains are the primary interest, so maybe fewer selfies and poses might make it even better?

This hike was hard. Not just because of the mileage or elevation; the trail conditions are rough with all the roots and boulders. Watch those ankles! And finding the most efficient route can be challenging. All that aside, what an incredible payoff with that view at the top! Five stars!! Epic!! Thanks for making this video so we can relive the amazing views. 😊
