Thanks for this wonderfully informative video. Well, I was using #3 toilet for the longest time. I did precisely that method with the funnel, except I use a 6 gal (baseball) bucket because it's taller and more suitable to use a funnel in. Big 5 has the 6 gal bucket. I have a black 30 gal bag as a liner, and then 2 more bags that the water jug is placed into. Poop goes directly into another bag and then doubled into a 🐶 bag, Never leave 💩 in toilet. That Stansport toilet is a waste of $$. Seems like a good design until you try to empty the liquid. I currently have this commode and don't like it because odors escape from the gap behind the cover and the bowl tips over because the bottom is narrow. I have bags in that as well, which I just empty when full enough. This toilet does not prevent odors from escaping. So, I'm going back to the bucket and jug mode. It's the most feasible and practical toilet. Nothing fancy, just close up the bag and dispose of.

It is not for a bigger person and it tip over so easy. Trelino is a better quality toilet but it cost $.

We use a bucket with a bag and pour in a little dustless kitty litter every time we go. Works great. No smell.

Fleet farm in fishing area has a great pee jug for either men and there’s a funnel they sell that works with the pee bottle for women. Love it for my van. 9.99 bottle. 4.99 funnel for women.

These are craps! No, I mean they are craps. Too much time to prepare for use, some requires water, most have messy disposable technique, then cleaning after the fact. Wake up people! Find the one that have separate number 1 and number 2 that can be lined with saw dust, cat litter, etc and thanks me later. Example is Trelino Composting Toilet Evo, or BOXIO Toilet PLUS

One very important factor I’ve found with portable toilets is height, it’s easy when you’re young bouncing off the toilet but as you age and your injuries crank up it’s very difficult getting up off the toilet if it’s to short make sure you have a tall enough toilet

I use 2 gatorade bottles for pee. Then u just dump it each morning. I dont get why people like to stock pile their pee? #2 you can actually train your body clock that at such n such time a day, is when u go handle #2 business usually in a nice high end hotel public restroom. Hotels and government offices like city hall or courthouses have staff on hand just dedicated to cleaning. Then u go buy a $6 5 gallon bucket ($20 tiolet lid if u want) use it for a regular trash can and u hsve it ready in case of food poisoning/flu etc. But if u are living in a van, u should be able to build up an emergency fund to fix the van and/or buy a night in a motel should u catch the flu etc.

after using Thetford porta potties with water and chemicals for 26 years we switched to a Trelino separating toilet and love it. We don't compost, just bag the solids after each go and place in the garbage. The urine container is easy to empty in public toilets or in the forest.

I use the first toilet that you have there and I put a little happy camper in when I add the first little bit of water after I have changed it out. And the happy camper keeps the odor down I never smell my toilet. But I will say that seal that is there on your slider play that opens and closes that seal does wear out and then you want to keep a little water in the top part so that the order doesn't come up as all but after time that seal will allow the water to drain down into the bottom. So I like that first toilet and I actually have two of them on board so when I'm outside and have my outside shower/ bathroom and it works out real nice.

A wide mouth nalgene has a tight lid , can be discretely put in small backpack or shopping or women's totebag/ purse and emptied in a toilet. Separate pee and poo is much easier to keep smell down. Great video! In terms of just the Homer bucket, u can buy a length of pipe insulation (looks like a black pool noodle ) and cut it to length and it makes sitting on it more comfortable and then the bag of course goes over the insulation. Regarding the Laveo, why don't you just NOT pee in it? Pee in a separate system and dump that later. Stick with the plan of pooping elsewhere and using the Laveo for emergencies only. For me the smell is a deal breaker. I also use the pee solidifier and make my own mixture with cat litter (goes a loooong way) - works phenomenally! Also, eating raw veggies (salads) with my protein (tuna/salmon/mackerel) allows me to plan my poops by the minute - same time every day - like clockwork.

We use the green one in our even. We have a toilet but I really don’t want to get into emptying that and it’s a 15 foot rv with a wet bath. We use a toilet tent during the day and the inside toilet at night. I use commode liners with gel in them…pee a few times and change it…poop once and change it. I like your idea of the pee jug with the funnel! Will see what I can rig up!

Interesting to watch this, I thought I was the only one to keep a bag and bucket in the van, i thought every one else had the will power to hang on till they found some where proper to go.

Here in the U.K. we have access to biodegradable bags, which allows me to use your system, and can be disposed of with a shovel if necessary. It’s nice to see others using their ingenuity, or sensible low cost alternatives.

Pine pellets with my trash can as need . Bag it up immediately and goes out w TRASH. No extra bucket.

Love fox from the band CSS had the best idea/build/ tutorial for a toilet. A composting one, and it only cost like $20. It's just a little box build of ergonomic size for your frame ideally but built to Tetris in a pod is perfect too. So a box with a hinged lid that has a hole cut in it and a toilet seat attached. The top lifts up as per usual but inside is a bucket. Now my opinion, just like I feel about litter boxes, I empty after every use, gotta be diligent with your chamber pot and no auto-chambermaid. I guess folks like to let it ride but I do not. I mean yeah a compost container to dump the bucket out if your on a property is choice but, being in a pod on the strings I make a pit stops to dispose of my fresh compost chips after every use. I'm extra I know but my body is on a schedule of ghost 💩 bliss so iiwii. Urine I do make two disposal runs a day but I'm not in the vehicle all the time so it's not usually a problem. However I don't like using public restrooms. I just don't. I go to the gym in the AM and do my shower after I work out then but that's about it for public facilities. So for my BM privacy a camping toilet is a priority. And for me composting is the way to go. Bags are waste and I don't like that. I've done the bag way before but you have to dispose of it non organic and I wanna keep my waste organic as possible. It makes me responsible for my intake and output in all kinds of ways by having to handle my waste in a responsible and respectful way. Just like having to manage my water and grey water. Mobile Pod living is just such a logical and healthy way to live. But that just my opinion. No shade to the fancy auto bag seal and suck models or any other premade camping toilet. Each has their own benefits and drawbacks. What matters is what works best for the individual and their build/style.

I bought a square 5 gallon bucket for a couple of dollars. Put medium sized black garbage bags in and it always works fine. Tried the expensive ones, too much hassle and money.

Great video, I do keep hearing about the horse pellets that absorb great and are very inexpensive. I will be getting the ,7 gal bucket, cut up one of my pool noodles and already have biodegradable plastic bags.

it is possible to juse a glasjar, like for marmelade, works wounders, especially in low environments like cartent or car.

We use the bucket and lid like you do in our tent trailer at night and for the day, we transfer it in a pop up change room tent. Thanks for sharing. 🇨🇦
