Nathan Barry's Growth Tactics for a $256K Business
Build your Bootstrapped Venture to $250k in Revenue: pages.matthewgira.com/youtube
Nathan's ConvertKit Story: th-cam.com/video/5bzMHKOMaxY/w-d-xo.htmlsi=lb3GXFnx4L8bRy0p
Today, Nathan Barry is the CEO and founder of ConvertKit soon to be Kit. Today, ConvertKit makes over $40 million in annual revenue, has over 80 full time employees around the world, and is completely bootstrapped.
There’s a lot of cool stories about how ConvertKit became what it is, but the story I want to focus on is Nathan’s journey from full time employee to creator.
This is a journey that Nathan was pretty public about on his blog post and I spent about 20 hours going through all of it so you can potentially implement some of the strategies Nathan used to create his $256,000 business.

    Love this 👏 And the single product example is super helpful. I also always try to remind founders to take some creative time to brainstorm features - no matter how crazy. (What CAN we build…?) And then comparing that to the first few versions of the product. (What SHOULD we build?) That sort of reductive approach (can vs should) often gives founders the opportunity to be both visionary and tactical. And also gives them some inspiration for what the future product MIGHT look like, even if the first few versions lack a lot of the envisioned functionality. Again, great work. Please keep it up!

    Thanks for compiling this video, very helpful, but I would like to challenge one information gave by you: Settings and Sharing is absolutely not easier than essentials exam. I have more than two years of experience using Notion, both personally and, more recently, in the company I work. I got the essentials badge with flying colors, without having to study at all. For the Settings and Sharing, there's a lot of details that we don't exercise on a daily basis (even if you're a workspace admin), so you really need to review the material and prepare yourself. I spent two days preparing and failed my first attemp (68% success, the minimum is 70%). I'm sure I can apply harder, study the material better and ace this next month, just thought would be nice set a real expectation of the exam, because it isn't easy per-se. Keep up with the good work :)

    you said " shut down" about 15 times in the first minute alone. it's really hard to understand what you are trying to say because you speak very fast , don't articulate properly and you barely take a breath. both the presentation and the story are boring, it's filled with irrelevant details so you can stretch it out for a 15 minutes video. you focus more on bs online metrics and likes than the actual engineering part of planning process. basically you are just bragging that you successfully made a handful of people believe you can be trusted with money but in the end you have been proven not to be that competent

    Firstly, thank you for this insightful video. I appreciate the time and expertise that goes into creating such valuable content. Allow me to share some advanced insights that have significantly impacted my business approach. From extensive experience, I've learned that merely eliminating problems isn't enough. When you remove a challenge, people quickly forget the pain and the value you provided, leading to questions like, "Why am I paying for this service?" which inevitably increases churn. Instead, focusing on driving revenue growth has proven far more effective. By adding substantial value and boosting a company’s revenue, you position yourself as indispensable. Revenue is the lifeblood of any business, and if you're the primary driver of income, you hold unparalleled leverage. Companies that understand this can't afford to let you go if they want to thrive. Furthermore, by fostering robust and healthy relationships with key stakeholders, you solidify your position and can command premium rates. The critical factor then becomes how to scale-how to generate more revenue with the same or less effort. This strategy is the true path to financial freedom, rather than merely being a 'pain killer' which can often lead to stagnation. The bottom-up approach you mentioned is indeed spot on. I’ve also observed a common pitfall with the 'find your passion' mantra. Success often hinges on the ability to consistently execute what’s necessary to achieve your goals. Many get sidetracked by the dopamine rush of chasing passions, which can derail progress. Aligning passion with essential tasks can be time-consuming and inefficient. Instead, finding joy in the process of taking action itself is key. This enjoyment is transferable across various tasks that drive you toward your goals. It's crucial to be clear about your objectives, but the real satisfaction should come from having a streamlined workflow that efficiently propels you forward. Not all passions are profitable, and focusing solely on monetizable actions is essential. Regarding mission and vision, it’s vital to have a robust framework for decision-making amidst external chaos. A clear vision acts as a guiding beacon, helping you make strategic choices and discern which actions align with your ultimate goals. A strong company vision that resonates deeply with you serves as a critical reference point for these decisions. Overall, this video is excellent, and these advanced insights will resonate with those aiming to refine their business strategies and achieve exceptional growth.

    @garyschasteen4726 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Firstly, thank you for this video. Appreciate the time it takes to make content, and just thought I would share some insights I have found that might be useful. I have found from experience that if you remove anything from someone, good or bad, they actually do not like it. For example, spent years "taking away" problems in business. The problem with that is that the people don't remember the pain, and so don't remember that you took that pain away by solving the problem, and so once you are no longer needed, they are like "Why am I paying for this service" and you get churn. Instead, what works much better, again from experience, is to find ways to increase revenue of a company. You are adding something to them, not taking something away. Without revenue, a business dies, and if you are the one bringing the most money into the company or your clients, you have the most leverage. They can get rid of you if they want to go under. If you also stack on top of that building a solid and healthy relationship with the people, then they won't want to get rid of you, and you can command top dollar. The key after that is how do you bring in more money with the same or less time spent, that is scaling. So good video, but I think the "pain killer" analogy of is actually a pathway to getting stuck instead of getting to financial free. The bottom up approach is spot on. I have also seen a lot of situations and experienced situations where people get stuck in the whole "find your passion" thing. The real thing that needs to happen is you need to be able to consistently do what needs to be done in order to achieve the goal. People get hooked on the dopamine of "their passion" and get side railed and stalled. The other problem with the "passion" approach is finding ways to align your passion with the task at hand, which is difficult and a big time suck. I have seen this many times. The solution is if you can enjoy the process of taking action, that can be transferred to any action that contributes to the goal. You do need to know what you want, but the joy or flow should come from having a really good workflow that makes executing your tasks consume only the amount of bandwidth required to achieve the goal. Also, some passions just don't make money. They are not monetizable.

    I stopped my Pro account at Flutterflow because it doesn't even support ble bluetooth. You have to use external package flutter_blue(_plus) but, after experimenting some time the first function bluetooth_enabled(), asking Flutterflow why this didn't work, they admitted that i was right and this didn't work. Then the other functions for scanning a bluetooth list of devices, this also didn't work. Asking Flutterflow why this didn't work either, they said they had not the people to investigate this but I am pretty sure this didn't work. They also didn't have a sample app to show working with Flutterflow and bluetooth 4+. And I didn't find anyone on internet working with Flutterflow and bluetooth. Bluetooth is essential for all my apps and a company that has software without supporting Bluetooth, is bad. Bluetooth (IOT) is so important nowadays. So, if you want to make apps for fun or for useless stuff, Flutterflow is good. For real professional use, Flutterflow is very limited and not my choice anymore. Waste of time and money....
