"No Wahala" (2006) Directed by: Achor Yusuf This was my very first music video as a director, created for my talented friend Sunny "Smyth" Okwori. "No Wahala" is a heartfelt song that inspires Nigerians to embrace a positive attitude, no matter the challenges they face. With its uplifting message and vibrant visuals, this video continues to resonate as a reminder of hope and resilience. 📅 Year:...

The Untamed Donkey: A Covenant with Individuality In a world that often rewards conformity, there is a creature in each of us-the wild donkey-that resists. This part of us carries our raw, unfiltered essence, our unique “covenant” with life. We each hold certain truths that shape our identity, guiding principles so intrinsic that they can neither be bartered nor explained, only honored. In a project that entails promises, boundaries, and consequences, the wild donkey serves as both guide and parable: a call to live from a place that recognizes and respects the boundary between “yours” and “mine.” Promises and Boundaries When I promise to replicate your natural habitat within my own, I offer you a space to feel at home, a freedom as wild and unrestricted as the wilderness you come from. It’s a pledge that values individuality yet establishes a boundary that’s firm, almost sacred: "I will not reap what you sow, nor will you reap what I sow." In these words lies the mutual understanding that each person's essence is a responsibility they carry alone, untouched and unclaimed by others. This covenant marks a boundary that respects autonomy without relinquishing connection. This arrangement of mutual respect is akin to treating each relationship as a “wild donkey”-an unpredictable, untamable creature. The invitation is clear: come, dwell in my space if it mirrors your own nature, but know that my essence is not yours to take. If you must depart, let it be without stealing away what is deeply mine. Otherwise, in your departure, you invite me into the wilderness to which you retreat, widening the borders of my influence. For if you attempt to claim what I have not given, you open a path for my essence to follow, expanding my presence into the very wilds that called you home. The Black Man’s Problem: Sacrilege and the Loss of Covenant The struggle of our times, and particularly of the black man, is one of sacrilege. When individuality is traded for belonging, when one’s covenant is offered up to secure another’s companionship, it violates the sanctity of the self. The unique “covenant”-the intimate, often untold truth each person must guard-becomes a currency, spent to secure connection, to avoid isolation. Yet in giving away this inner secret, a person often finds themselves poorer, not richer, in the relationship. The secret to wholeness, and to prosperity, lies in guarding these personal covenants. A covenant is as much about holding close what defines you as it is about refusing to let it be bartered away for temporary connection. When a person divulges their innermost secrets, they diminish the sacredness that individuality brings to the relationship, undermining the trust that fidelity relies upon. The Fragility of Fidelity in a World of Conformity Fidelity is delicate. When a person conforms, suppressing their individuality to secure companionship, fidelity becomes tenuous, bound to the pretense of belonging rather than to an authentic connection. Like a wild donkey forced into a yoke, such a relationship becomes strained, pulled between authenticity and the need to please, leaving it vulnerable to the slightest challenge. Conformity, then, becomes the silent adversary of fidelity. When we adjust who we are for others, we slowly dismantle the very foundation of fidelity. Fidelity thrives on the truth-on individuals who guard their covenants and offer their company, but not at the cost of their core. Conforming to another’s ideals, at the cost of one’s own essence, leads not to genuine closeness but to resentment, to a silent betrayal of the self. The Path to True Wealth: Honoring Individuality The secret of wealth lies in nurturing what is sacred, both in oneself and others. Wealth is not only about material gain but about relationships that honor each person’s inner truth. Feeding the lambs, baiting the fish with what they naturally seek, and living by the principles you’re willing to die for-this is true wealth. It’s not merely about possession; it’s about sustaining a connection that allows each party to thrive in their nature. To secure this kind of wealth, one must allow others to feel at home within their environment without demanding they surrender their individuality. Like a shepherd to the lambs, it requires meeting others in their nature, not demanding they conform to yours. It is through this reciprocal respect that true wealth, of connection and prosperity, is generated and sustained. A Final Parable: To Keep the Covenant Intact Imagine a shepherd who argues with his donkey, trying to convince it to see the world as he does. He attempts to share his deepest truths, hoping the donkey might understand, that it might stay close by him, obedient and tame. But the donkey, rooted in its own nature, cannot grasp the shepherd’s inner covenant. It resists. And in the attempt to tame it, the shepherd loses himself, forgetting his own path, speaking words meant only for him. To argue with a wild donkey is to betray oneself, to risk becoming something alien to one’s nature. The covenant that makes a person whole cannot be traded or explained; it can only be honored. By honoring one’s essence without demanding conformity from others, we keep the self intact, allowing fidelity to thrive in its purest form. Individuality and the Keeper’s Dilemma In the fragile dance between individuality and fidelity lies the keeper’s dilemma: to remain true to oneself while respecting the wild spirit in others. The true strength of fidelity is not found in forcing someone to stay, nor in sacrificing one’s own essence to secure them. It is found in nurturing an environment where individuality can flourish without breaching the sacred boundaries of self. Ultimately, the expansion of our influence, our domain, lies in honoring our essence, holding our covenants close, and letting others choose freely-whether they stay or go. In this, we build relationships that respect both the individual and the bond, keeping fidelity whole amidst the fragility of the human heart.
