The earliest reference of Shakumbhari Devi Shrine in history is 2500 years old where Kautilya (also known as Chanakya or Vishnugupt Vatsyayan) is said to have visited the shrine and lived for some length of time. The seat of Mother Goddess is in the foothills of lesser Himalayas (known as Shivalik range).
