A short chase from Hopedale MA Distribution Center to Milford MA. GATX 326, GU 1160 and GU 1191. Some initial activity in the Hopedale Distribution Center as they prepare for the trip to Bellingham/Franklin. The new crossing lights and gates are not active yet on Cape Road / Route 140 in Milford. Depot Street in Milford is where they reverse direction with GU 1191 & 1160 taking the lead.
Grafton and Upton Railroad - Route 16

I haven’t uploaded in a while but hope to add more in the coming months. Caught GU 1158 & 1191 and three cars crossing route 16 in Hopedale MA. This train was heading back from Bellingham and into the Hopedale Distribution Center. The intersection and crossing are currently being upgraded and this crossing will soon have new signals and gates as part of that upgrade. GU 1158 & 1191 are former C...
Grafton and Upton Railroad switching in Hopedale
มุมมอง 4022 ปีที่แล้ว
Was able to finally catch some switching in Hopedale. GU 1191 & 1158 doing all the work. These two are former CSX MP15ACs. I was experimenting with my iPhone so I started out in cinematic mode and then switched to video. Great zoom functionality on the iPhone 13. Enjoy the sights and sounds. A little history and facts about the railroad: The Grafton and Upton Railroad is no stranger to history ...

Hoosac Tunnel East Portal
มุมมอง 1.9K3 ปีที่แล้ว
Some drone footage around the east portal of the Hoosac Tunnel in Florida MA. If you’re ever in the area it’s a fun place to check out. The Hoosac Tunnel (also called Hoosic or Hoosick Tunnel) is a 4.75-mile (7.64 km) active railroad tunnel in western Massachusetts that passes through the Hoosac Range, an extension of Vermont's Green Mountains. It runs in a straight line from its east portal, a...

Grafton & Upton Railroad - Hopedale to Upton - MP15 struggles on the grade
มุมมอง 4.2K3 ปีที่แล้ว
Chasing GU 1158 & GU 1160 from Hopedale MA to Upton MA. The tank cars were fully loaded and you’ll see as they cross Chestnut Street in Upton it took two attempts to climb the grade. The normal crossing guard, if that’s what you call him, was not available so the train needed to slow at the non-signalized crossings. GU 1158 & 1160 are former CSX MP15s. Enjoy!
Grafton & Upton Railroad - chase from Hopedale to Upton
มุมมอง 7K3 ปีที่แล้ว
Mini chase from Hopedale to Upton MA. The train was waiting at the Hopedale Distribution Center for the maintenance crew to clear the track. GU 1158 was pulling and GU 1191 was pushing the cars back to North Grafton. Both are former CSX MP15s. The first part of the video was a little shaky due to proximity of the camera to the track. I’d like to thank the driver of the white truck at the end of...

Great video, sounds like someone forgot to loosen the handbrake on some of the hopper cars
THESE TWO TWINS ARE FIRMER CSX MP15AC SWITCHERS FROM EMD SINCE EMMD IS SENDING MANY IF THESE TO LETX, FINDING SOME ON CSX IS GETTING DIFFICULT!
Great catch!
Great catch! Love the MP's!
My favorite shortline
I know the same. Waste of tax prayers money.
You obviously didn't read the previous comments. Hopefully you're in a place where the fire department is fully staffed and there's no need for extra crews from multiple towns to show up to fight a large fire.
the switchers are perfect for them. have loved watching them grow very cool little railroad
I remember back in the 1980s this section looked like it was out of service, and I saw it become more overgrown with every year until they finally removed the crossing tracks and lights. I thought trains here were gone for good. Would never have imagined they would be back almost 40 years later.
I will never understand why when firefighters are at a fire there's so many of them standing around doing nothing but watching
Hi Lara - the simple answer is that firefighters are part of a crew and the crews need to rotate in and out of the fire. If there's heavy interior work they only have so much air and need to be rotated. So they're really not doing nothing, just waiting for an assignment.
Sometimes it's because it is a volunteer fire department and whoever shows up is what you have to work with. If it's a weekend there can be a lot of people unless it is opening day of hunting season. If it's a workday, it can take hours for volunteers to arrive if they commute to work. A half dozen or so of those firefighters are tanker truck drivers who shuttle water to the firetrucks from the nearest fire hydrant.
To Bad it wasn't Grafton wisconsin
Great video. At the beginning of the drone video at the south end, any idea what that is they’re unloading out of those hoppers? Looks a little too light colored to be sand, but it must be pretty heavy because those are small hoppers.
Not exactly sure what is those hoppers. The railroad moves cement, fly ash, plastics and recycled glass.
nice
how is it going?- prfect ~talk you later,
nice nature
The crossing gates at Cape Rd were recently installed. It's a pity to see that they're not yet working. Gates were also installed at the main st just south of the Hopedale yard. The Depot St crossing was rebuilt around the same time, but sadly, gates weren't installed there.
New lights and gates were also installed on route 16 in Hopedale. They won’t be activated until road work is completed.
Very nice video! That's a chase I want to do soon since it's right in my neck of the woods.
I like the switchers they use.
Hopefully one day soon the railroad will properly label their locomotives with something a little better than just a black "GU" on a white background covering the old CSX markings. Shows a little pride in the company and probably wouldn't cost much. Nice video from the multiple locations.
The “older” locomotives were properly painted, so hopefully someday they’ll get these done as well.
They should be adding more crossings in Milford as it seems because of the MOW work being done on 140 and around Pinz
I agree. They’re working today on the crossing on route 16 in Hopedale. I’ve also seen them working on the 140 crossing last week.
@@centralmassflicks8722 Well call me a wizard lol, was going down on 140 today in Milford and there are already gates at the site. The Route 16 crossing in Hopedale also got gates as well.
@ 4:23... is it just me or does that portion of the vid look like one helluva uber super detailed model railroad
Some verbal narration wouldn’t hurt. Video started flickering when train going by on screen. 🤷🏻♂️
Isn't the locomotive in the back pushing as well
Excellent video
Great video footage
Im a switcher truck driver, but I would absolutely love to be a railroad switcher
I love the rebirth of these railroads… but why? Are there any industries left in mass that require railroads???
If it wasnt for the ant size people walking around i would have thought this is a very realistic model. Imagine you could have tiny people walking around in your model? Someone should invent that...
Nice to see the old trains still going strong
The interchange with the Hoot Toot and Whistle is all grown over.
Nice Video Its neat that YOU TUBE DIFFERENT CHANNEL SHOW CASE SHORTLINE RAILWAY TO PROTEIAL RAILWAY SHIPPERS CUSTOMERS...THESE SHORTLINES SHOULD CONSIDER THIS AS A OPPORTUNITIES...PAY A LITTLE
Excellent! That dash cam footage was the best!
Awesome video of the switchers which is my ABSOLUTE FAVORITE locomotive on a short line railroad! And I wish I lived in the house that had it's own private crossing! I'd certainly be in my glory w my fascination of trains. Thanks for sharing this video CMF and I'm viewing it from Delmar, Delaware.
are those the real sw's? lol, i want one, or two
Great video CMF, I knew I'd like it b4 watching it bcuz the MP15AC SWITCHER is one of my favorite locomotives! I'm new to your channel and I'm viewing this from Delmar, Delaware.
give me a real SW
old hoppers
Awesome video
Pretty cool video
Great video and great catch how many days during the week does this train run
Thanks! I would have to say between 3-4 days into Hopedale. I live at the Hopedale end but I'm sure there's more activity on the North Grafton side.
@@centralmassflicks8722 Okay cool
@@centralmassflicks8722 I might have to come up there sometime and catch some of these trains
Nostalgia 📛
That MP15 will never be the same!!
What happened to all their black engines always using these ones 🤔
Loco on the back end not helping pushing up hill......What a waste!
i was thinking the same thing but i think they only use that one for switching trailing point industries... plus i wonder if the condr was a qualified engr... if he was he could got back there and fired up the rear unit and pushed
Maybe it more trouble to setup back Power as DPU, so they try a second run up hill, instead of firing up rear Loco.Im not sure of the reasoning at this point..?
Looks like they have a yard full of freight to sort through and line up for proper distribution and set off to their customers. I am so glad for them. Helps keep that weight off the roads, more cost effective and helps keep the rails shiny. (the kitty's pal-allen from Ga)
These are mp15ac diesel switchers built by general motors division a.k.a emd.you wont find no locomotives from any other builder that can out SWITCH these girls. They are known for their reliability and dependability and efficiency and ease of maintenance.
Long Island RR used MP 15 in passenger service during the 1980s and 1990s
It's so great to see that line active. I would like to see them gain and expand their customers. Rail is the way to move anything that needs to be shipped. Do they operate passenger excursions on that line? Seems like I remember that they had a passenger engine in prior years videos. (the kitty's pal-allen from Ga)
From what I've read they're definitely looking to expand their customer base especially between Milford and Franklin. Back in 2014/2015 they ran a Polar Express excursion around the holidays. The cost was most likely the reason to not continue. The railroad owner also owns Edavillle Railroad so it makes sense to concentrate on that versus expanding excursions.
Great video. The train not making it up the hill the first time was pretty cool!
Glad to see an obscure line get some coverage. Nice color on the fill trying to make the hill. Frankly it came back down for try #2 at what looked like runaway speeds! MILW ROAD had 64 of those units and had troubles on grades
Haven't been down there since September, gotta get back there on Veterans Day to see if stuff has changed
What is the engine in this video? I have not seen a switch engine like that since the 1960’s.
MP15ACs previously owned by CSX.
