Bob's talent is so vast and varied that only he could neglect such a gorgeous and soulful tune, later popularized by many great vocalists including the great Odetta! Dylan did a great vocal rendition in the late 70s; he is rich perfect but has unfortunately ravaged his pipes over many decades. Blind Willie McTell is in competition with this as one of his all time great contributions to the American canon.

not many better love songs (or Dylan tunes) than this. The fiddle break is superlfuous however IMO. Fingerpicked acoustic is all the necessary accompaniment

For me the best version is by Rod Stewart on his 1971 EPTAS album featuring Martin Quittenton on classical guitar and the great jazz player Dick Powell on violin...simply beautiful music and a track of which I never tire of listening.

One of Bob Dylan's loveliest songs - and, oddly enough, a song he's never made an official studio recording of. There's a live recording on "Greatest Hits Volume 2" and a demo of the song on "The Witmark Demos," but no studio recording. Odd that he would let one of his best songs slip through the cracks like that.
