I'm 62...and last week I went the other way around ! After 2 years...I quit....and I laid "THEM" off ! 🤣 Everything in life is a matter of Perspective !! Take care...and mostly...have fun !!
Where is this?
In beautiful Idaho!
Thank you Tyke. I needed that message. I'm 57 and was let go this week for no reason. Yes I'm mourning, but I will ACT and prepare myself for this next adventure in life.
Hello there, at 60 I ane out of options, I got screw by government clients, business partners and th worst, I live in a foreign country and things don't look good at my age, I was a director of 3 overseas companies, one from the USA. I have experience as a business developer and technical support for all kinds of high technology equipment. I am really worried about what to do now. Thanks for the video. I know is not the end of times but I wish I can find a new project or a new job soon. Kind regards from Bogotá Colombia South America.
After a year of looking for jobs, we learned it just isnt going to happen. Managing expectations, we learned we were going to have to reinvent ourselves and make our own necessary income. Paying bills, we've always been simple people and lived a simple life. Given hubby had been a leader in his field w awards, we def didnt think job loss was in his cards. We assumed he would retire from that job. Shame on us for thinking that. Many others his age were let go, as well. Moving forward, our mindset on money has changed, even more so. Happiness for us really is in potluck/game night w friends, keeping the grandkids, camping w our senior citizen dog, gardening together, participating in the church, etc. Europe trip may never happen-that is ok. New construction home wont happen-that is ok. I wanted a Cadillac when I officially retired-that wont happen. Our life is actually better, less stressful! Im sorry this happend to you. I wish you all the best. Keep working your TH-cam Channel and utilizing the skills you have to make an income.
Thank you so much Ruth for your kind comments. I am sorry that happened to you as well. I totally agree that the simple life is the way to go. We just got home from a lovely visit with the grandkids so we feel the same way that family visits and fun, easy times with friends are the way to go. Less stressful is the way we are headed as well, we are currently selling our home we built and getting rid of everything so we can not have stuff to weigh us down. We are wishing you all the best as well! Looking forward to hearing about all of your retirement adventures!
Im so sorry this happened to you but, welcome to the club! Hubby has been there ie age 59 yo! It'll be 4 yrs ago this April. We were lucky that we are simple people, always lived in our financial lane. Given his shelves of LOADS of awards, we assumed landing another job would have been easy. NOPE! The days of making his prior income was GONE. We owned a very small business and decided we will grow it...and we did. Decided to stay in our paid off home vs getting a new construction. Bought a camper vs traveling over seas. Do lots of pot lucks w friends vs going to fancy resturants. Bought a gently used chevy when my Jeep died. Losing his job was def not in the plan but it happened. We pivoted w the small business, which keep all our bills paid and lets us fund our Roth IRA each year. It isnt perfect but darn near it!
Sounds like you and your hubby have great attitudes! That is the key. Life throws us a curve ball and we have to adjust. You are doing great! I can't wait to hear more of your adventures. Where have you been in your camper?
@@TykeandTinaAdventures We wont go over 6 hours away but lots of camping in IN, TN, KY and MI. Bring all our own food, the sr citizen dog. LOVE it.
I was 63 and told my boss, in writing, his management style was detrimental to the company’s goals. I was fired. My only regret is not quitting a year earlier. I was already financially secure and had no real reason to keep working except hoarding money. My greatest satisfaction working was teaching people with less experience how to do a better job faster with less errors, less effort and less stress.
Hello and thank you for your comment! I am so sorry that you were fired for speaking the truth. I agree, I wish I would have quit earlier as well but sometimes you make sacrifices when you have a plan to retire in a few years, you just try to stick it out as long as you can - sounds like that was you as well. I love your heart for teaching and helping others. I hope you have a happy and successful retirement, and I am looking forward to hearing about your adventures.
Just "Be" indifference, always... towards societal chaos, and thinking forward now, not about the past... kinda like early teen year's. forward thinking...Life's not a do over. Just "be" and see new opportunities. Places..etc. . Peace

I was laid off in November ( no fault) I’m super happy and excited. This is a new opportunity for growth and change for the better. ( I’m 60 years young 😅)

Thank you! Glad I found your channel! I’ve subscribed 😊 I’m exploring my options and taking time to figure out what I really want to do. I’m so blessed to have a supportive and kind husband. I’ve been taking time to breathe and restore my energy. I’m feeling so peaceful and happy, and actually excited about the possibilities. I look forward to watching more of your videos and gain some insight. God bless ❤
I worked 41 years in Information Technology - programmer, Unix Sysadmin, DBA. 60-80 hour weeks, nights, weekends, holidays, and all during cancer treatment in 2018 - I still have the blue acrylic plaque recognizing my support In 2020, my DBA position was outsourced; I had to do knowledge transfer at 4:30 AM Pacific because of the time difference with Bangalore. I decided on early retirement. In 2023, the cancer returned, so my life is now Fun With Oncology
Thank you for sharing. I'm so sorry about your concern. I hope your treatments are going well. God bless you.
Wow! There are others like me! I was just fired yesterday from a job I’d held for 17 years, and 40 years doing the same work. Yes, I’m taking it personally as most of the reasons given were false allegations of verbal abuse..‘micro aggression’. And from only two people, both women. Fortunately, the wife and I have lived way under our income. The only debt is a small mortgage. I’m 64 in February, I’m seriously considering just retiring as we have healthy 401ks and SS benefits available.
I'm so sorry you were let go. I hope you decide to retire and enjoy yourself! Please subscribe and keep us all in the loop of what your retirement looks like.
Good tips and great for 2025 spring cleaning / downsizing motivation!
Glad it was helpful!
I lost my job at 48 and decided to go freelance. Did it for 6 years and at 54 found a position for 1 year replacing a maternity leave. Then at 55 I found a permanent position and I’m still working there. I consider myself lucky because I’m a graphic designer and ageism is real and I save every penny just in case.
Thank you for this comment. It is true ageism is real. Sounds like you are prepared for retirement whenever the time is right. Wishing you all the best. Please subscribe. We look forward to hearing more from you.
Thank you for sharing your story!!! We can all learn from each other!! ❤
Sometimes when things like this happen….they’re blessings in disguise. ❤ I’m glad you shared this story because I think it will help a lot of people.
Such a blessing 🙌 hard to go thru at the time, but for the best in the long run.
I love how you guys talk about the possible modes of transportation. That’s useful info and something I always like to hear about when watching a travel video. I agree with you about taking in the sites on foot vs an underground way of getting around. My husband and I love to walk! Great video! Thank you for sharing your experience with us!
Thank you Tyke! Such great advice. Kind of you to share your knowledge.
Glad it was helpful!
Decluttering is a constant struggle. Love all the helpful tips I can get.
It really is!
Beautiful 😍
Thank you! 😊
Tyke - I am working currently - but this advice was excellent and I will be sure to keep it just in case.
if you were in a union you might still have your job
I think so, too. Unfortunately, the state we live in has a 'Right to Work' law, which is kind of an ironic description, the law really means you can let people go without any explanation , cause, or reason. They should have called it Right to Fire.
@TykeandTinaAdventures unions over ride that law
I'm sorry you were let go and that this was a shock to you. I've been through many layoffs across my career so i've had a lot of practice. Moreover, I prepared to retire early because i've always known job security was a fiction. I am very likely looking at a layoff mid 2025. I'll welcome it. I'm in my mid-50's and I could easily make the case for continuing to work but I won't. I want my freedom and will give up some money to have that.
Thank you for your kind thoughts. Perspective, preparation, and the reality of so-called job security are something we can all take advantage of in today's employment landscape. As much as employers want to offer security and opportunity, the reality is often that they cannot guarantee either.
Great pep talk, but it doesn't help when you live check to check and need a job yesterday because you have 2 children who depend solely on you. How do I tell my child not to go to college because I need her to work. I don't know what to do.
Thank you for your comments. I can identify with living check to check and raising a family (3 in ours), and the stress that comes with it. I was working full time while I earned my college degree, and found alot of resources at my local community college that helped me figure out how to go to school and work. I can tell you are a loving and dedicated parent who never gives up! Lean into that never give up attitude and I am confident you will find the answers you need!
I would love to sell something, but if you are only talking about selling what you own, then this is a short-lived business. It sounds like you actually buy cars at a cheap price and sell them on ebay for a bit more. In bulk purchases, I get it and on Amazon a person can do a drop-ship business where no product is ever stored anywhere and it's basically a business where you are the go-between the source seller and the buyer. I think people need real advice on how to do a business on bulk buying, storing, and selling or if drop-shipping, then how to do that. Anyone can talk about these things, but to be really helping others, people need real examples so they can model a business off of that. It's great that you are trying to help others, but if a person just sells what they have on ebay, then a few months or a year later - then what. People are looking for a steady source of income and real life examples. - I do appreciate the time and energy you give to make these informative videos and maybe that might be enough for some people, but if I am ever going to sell something, I have to have something to sell. I don't have a garage full of things to sell. - Thanks for these videos and I'm sure others appreciate them, but someone who needs a real income, needs a real job or a real business.
Thank you for your comments. I appreciate your observations, and I will be posting follow up videos soon with some examples of what has worked for me. I do want to reply specifically to some of your comments, and will include more detailed points like this in upcoming videos. Product: While I do have items I already own that I am selling, I also purchase items at retail (not wholesale or in bulk) and flip them on sites like EBay, Facebook Marketplace, Craigslist, and through networking with people looking for specific collectibles. I felt that a video about how EBay had worked for us, my wife and I, would be something people could identify with and start earning some extra income in a relatively short period of time. Business Models/Specifics: One of the primary reasons I chose EBay as the primary focus is that it can be used as a foundation for just about any level of business someone might want. If you just want to sell a few items to make some extra cash, it works. If you want to scale up, post alot of product and make more, it can work for that. They provide simple and relevant sales data that you can use to grow your business. Sales are about numbers; for example, right now there are 1.6M + Mattel Hot Wheel listings on EBay, it would seem there is too much competition and limited opportunities, but we were still able to sell a good mix of product I already owned as well as product I purchased at local stores. The internet is the great opportunity equalizer. A person can access not one, but several online selling sites for their product(s), that will help them get their product in front of more people. Income: Our primary focus of the EBay video was to let people know that there are ways you can earn some extra money, relatively quick and easy. Right now for us, it is a source of supplement income, not a primary. My EBay has the ability to scale and grow if I choose, such as diversify my product offerings or add more product for sale in a specific category. Like alot of things in life, there is no guarantee that someone will be an overnight EBay sales success story and provide you will all the income you need. I completely agree that finding another job a.s.a.p. might be what an individual needs to do for their wellbeing, my hope was that perhaps they could get some extra income streams and EBay was the example I could share. Thank you so much again for your great observations and comments, they are sincerely appreciated!
Lovely walk! I love hearing people speaking French in the background. Such a beautiful language. Thanks for sharing!
Getting fired is not the same thing as getting laid off!! Getting fired means you were terminated because you did something for Cause (according to the employer). Getting laid off means that it happened through no fault of your own. In your case you disagreed with management. Sounds disgusting that they can fire you for sticking to your ideas but in business the management is always right. I have disagreed with management many times in my life. Never been fired, though I guess I was just lucky.. At 61 I am at the point that I don't really give a crap if they fire me because I am done with putting up with BS. In my career I have QUIT many times over things I saw that made the workplace unfit for me. Poor management, being shorthanded and overworked, being bored to death, business being bankrupt, shady business practices, divorce, pay, and benefits. I learned something, and moved on to the next opportunity. Hey I might make a video about all that!!
Sounds like you have a lot of experience - making a video is a great idea.
Great advice! Thank you for making this. I am looking for to decluttering in 2025.
You can do it!
@@TykeandTinaAdventures Thank you Tina!
Go to school half your life to learn nothing work the rest of your life to die before retirement. Um no thanks I am the younger generation we have it made by not working. 36 never had a job never will people need to give it up
@zombieapocalypsexx9253 good for you! What for you do for income?
I read somewhere about a guy who had a disagreement with his supervisor about something. He was sacked as a result. Later he was shown to be correct and they sacked his boss and other people who were involved, but he didn’t get his job back. The thing was that if he agreed with his boss, he would also have been sacked. The moral is that the best option is to keep quiet and get out fast.
Thank you for sharing, there is certainly merit in your sound advice!
Good stuff! Loving your proactiveness, enthusiasm, and passion.

That is great advice.
I work in a field where I speak with many people that have recently retired. They almost always say the same thing when I ask how they are liking retired life so far.
Make sure you mail the sold object so the package can be tracked, some buyers will claim the package got lost in the mail...
Good advice. We use the built in e bay shipping labels with tracking. We have not had an issue.
Subbed. Yes, you will mourn for the reasons you said, and more....I was a worrier and still kind of am. Been laid off due to mergers, about 5 times. It was terrible each time. No fault of my own. Scariest time is when I lost my job due to a merger, we were having our first son, I was the only one working. No job, a mortgage and bills, no medical coverage, with a baby due in a couple months. One of my last chances at a job interview was canceled because the agency gave me the wrong address. It was downtown. It was pouring rain. I missed the interview. I was in a panic. I just sat there feeling everything crash down, as people walked to their jobs. It was a bad time.
People, life is not fair. That’s the default. You can be laid off at any age, but the older you are the greater the probability it WILL happen. Once you’re over 50 just expect that it will happen and be prepared.
Thank you for this wise comment. We do need to be prepared. This group is a safe place to voice our frustrations and see that we are not alone in this and that we have a support system. Thank you for being here.
Glad I saved money and had a paid for home as we approached retirement. The last five years of employment, I worked part-time (my choice). I'm very qualified - but that doesn't mean a company needs a very qualified employee. The company had changed - and they didn't need my experience or skill set. Glad I didn't need the income any more.
You planned well! Thank you for your comment. Please subscribe to our channel, we would love to hear more from you. Best wishes!
Never fired or unemployed between ages of 13-58. Retired with public pension at 58 four years ago and took SS at 62. These two sources replace 110% of my final salary. Traveling the world and retirement is great.
@Fell214 we are going to start traveling too. Please subscribe, we would love to hear about your adventures!
That's impressive, congratulations! I am in my 50s and downsizing is where my head is at. I love this idea of putting up an Ebay account. Thank you for this idea.
You are so welcome! Tina also uses Facebook marketplace for the bigger items that are hard to ship. Please like & subscribe to our channel for more tips! Best of luck to you!
I can tell you after reflecting on my career as an engineer over 30+ years, it's just not worth fighting over details. There are jobs here I came in on weekends to try and make the perfect device and if the lazy get to continue to lazy, then you are wasting your time working hard. The only thing a regret is working hard for some companies. Don't get me wrong, doing a good job still matters but going the extra mile, many times simply is not worth it. Work life balance is the key to a carefree life.
Thank you for this comment. Balance is key! Please subscribe to our channel, we would love to hear more from you.

Retired last year at age 63 and, I am really enjoying my life. I was unemployed in both my 30's and again in my 40's. So, I set myself up to be fully financially independent by age 55. While working my final 15-years, my largest fear was to become unemployed for a third time, between the ages of 45 through 54. God blessed me and, I was able to stay employed during my 50's. (smile ... smile).
