Ah, Zoe, Zoe, Zo...you were so deeply gay from the start and didn't even realise😌

It's probably quite twisted to say this, but for the drama and the excitement and the dark potential of it all, I wanted Zoe to have a relationship with Lydia for real. It would have been so unhealthy and messed up, but quite compelling and interesting television (why we watch soaps, honestly). I also like the thought of exploring lesbian/bi female characters more in depth and in darker storylines.

Zoe's sheepskin/suede(?) coat was one of my all-time favourite signature garms on Hollyoaks. Loved it for the character aesthetic, it looks timelessly casual-cool, and Zoe looked great in it too. Her rainbow scarf was a nice touch, as well--and it perhaps served as a foreshadowing hint too😏

8:50 a sister knows a sister best of anyone. Unfair and unrealistic that Amy's word and conviction wasn't taken into account or respected during this trial.

Mike is such a weird man. In his dealings with younger women, he can't seem to settle on being a father figure or being more intimate (a pseudo-lover of sorts). He doesn't have good physical or emotional boundaries, though his intentions may be noble. Decent people don't hook up with their daughter's friends, or move their dead daughter's ex girlfriend in. Perhaps that's down to being a reluctant single father of girls, or perhaps he's just a lowkey creep. He's meant to be the protagonist, but the way he is with his daughters and with Zoe & Lydia just makes me cringe and roll my eyes.

Michaela's a maniac and rather dim, but she's a brilliant mate to Amy.

Foo Fighters is so...incongruous in this situation. It's too upbeat and fun for the plot.

Didn't ever sit right with me that Zoe reconciled with Mike and went away travelling with him, after everything. The actress for Zoe even once told press toward the end of her tenure that Zoe didn't have feelings for Mike anymore and that she wanted to leave him in the past. So couldn't Zoe have struck out on her own and made a fresh start somewhere else? That's what most in her situation would do.

0:16 excellent foreshadowing there--a month on from this episode, Zoe tries to seduce Lydia, and Lydia tries to stab Zoe.

These actresses had big chemistry, better than Loui Batley (talented though she is) did with either. Pity they didn't have a long storyline together.

Mike was always kinder to Amy than to Sarah, and even that was inconsistent. Shoddy parenting.

Was Zoe completely faking and trying to honeytrap Lydia here, or did she actually feel a bit of something? It was a good act if there was absolutely no attraction there.

That skipping record was the scariest thing about this episode.

It would have been easy to write more material for both Zoe & Lydia, whether together or apart as characters. Off the top of my head, I can think of a good few storyline options for them. It was a shame HO gave up and wrote out these brilliant actresses so quickly.

Ah, Redmond: he'll put 5x effort depth and sensitivity into a hetero incest or SA s/l than a lesbian one.

Tbh there's a little part of me that was curious to see Lydia & Zoe both live, and couple up in a hurt/comfort trauma bond dynamic. Obviously that would be too dark and depressing a storyline even for a British soap, but it would have been interesting and could have gone deep. There was potential there; Lydia at least clearly felt strongly about Zoe, albeit in the wrong direction. Zoe told Lydia she'd "do anything, say anything" for Lydia not to kill her or herself, so perhaps that could have led to a Stockholm-esque love storyline, with Lydia blackmailing or forcing Zoe to stay with her to work through their pain and loss over Sarah together (in an unhealthy way, maybe sometimes sexually), and Zoe eventually breaking through to her and them connecting emotionally on a real level, leading to a real relationship. Just headcanon on my part, but I think there was a three-dimensional and realistic way to pull it off that redeemed both characters in the long term, instead of just ending it abruptly in the Guignol and frankly superficial way the show did here. And honestly? Mike wasn't exactly a saint, so I don't think he deserved to go off into the sunset with Zoe and completely forget about the daughter he so cruelly punished and scapegoated to her dying day (as well as the other one he basically abandoned to grieve on her own). Lydia wasn't the only villain.

Amy was the one living person for whom I felt most sorry at the end of this storyline. For a sister to lose a beloved sister, and in such a violent horrific and unexpected way too, would be unimaginably painful and shocking and hard to process. Plus unlike the rest Amy was still so young, and couldn't be expected to behave in a rational or mature way over it (same for Charlotte, tbf).

Mike was so selfish. His daughter died, and he made it all about himself. After he spent over a year pushing her out of his life, and telling her she was a slut and an evil worthless person that he didn't respect or care about. Plus, he still prioritised Zoe over his daughter's memory. He was a failure of a father, and frankly was one culpable link in a long chain that led to Sarah's death.

Lydia had bottle talking under interrogation to coppers like that. She was mad and vicious and sociopathic, but honestly quite ballsy as well. Wish they hadn't been so quick to kill her and Zoe off, or end their plotline in under a year--this could have been a gripping intense slowburn.

This arc worsened the vile stereotype about 'insane possessive jealous su!cidal stalker lesbians'. Not saying that lesbians are exempt from villainy or must be sweet and good characters; just that HO could have been less hardcore and gory, and less quick to wash their hands of this story. It was as if they wanted to write out the girls in the fastest, cruellest and most insensitive way they could.

Loved Zoe Mike and Sarah. So glad years later Zoe and like we’re still together!
