38:49 Olegs, you should REALLY be careful what you're saying! Most of the listeners of this podcast are NOT Euroleague referees or experienced FIBA referees or likewise, but rookies trying to find a tip to continue better doing their job. Saying, "best communication is zero communication", is the worst piece of advise that you can give to a referee (of any level)! It will for sure be interpreted - a coach/player asks about something - referee refuses communication! (because, this is zero communication) - and this is a SURE way of loosing any control whatsoever, on and off court! They'll be perceived as "ignorant, arrogant bastards out there with a whistle in their mouth"... I'd like to see YOU refusing communication, surrounded by thousands crazy supporters, with Obradovic, Jasikevicius, Ataman, Messina, or so... Don't be pretentious Olegs - REFEREES ARE NOTHING ELSE BUT SERVICE PROVIDERS - and believe it or not, nobody buys tickets to watch referees!!!

Great interview, I love it, thanks! One question if somebody has a tips. At 48:18, Manuel said to pass the call during a transition from the backcourt to the frontcourt if the offensive player succed to cross the defender and the illegal contact was quite "small/soft". But during the last quarter, often we can see the defense making a volontary fault to prevent the offensive to drive towards the basket and save some seconds on the chrono. In this case, the fault was obvious but not unsportsmanlike, and the disadvantage turned into an advantage. In a common way, we have to whistle. But if we follow this advice, we should not. Because if we make the call, the offense will be disadventaged to score the last points required to get the win (which is the opposite of the Manu idea's purpose). In this situation, should we "change our criteria of contact" for the last minutes of the game ?

Wow, good stuff. And what's your advice when you don't have even a statistic from any youth game before the final tournament? You just have the final score, and maybe the scores for the quarters...what's then? Nothing, you go and see the teams warm up's before the game with a focus on each player if you can, beside that I've nothing from U13 up to U18.

This is an incorrect application of the unsportsmanlike rule. Article 37 - Unsportsmanlike foul 37.1.1 An unnecessary contact caused by the defensive player in order to stop the progress of the offensive team in transition. This is supposed to apply to break aways not what occurs in the video.
