Flying an Ultralight With No Training?
มุมมอง 97K2 หลายเดือนก่อน
Recently someone tried to fly an ultralight at our airport with absolutely no training. The results were sadly predictable. Why has this become so common? Is it really worth the risks? Some say it's haunted, but there is no denying it's cool! Over 1,800 acres of private island right in the middle of Elmore County, Alabama. Join me for a quick tour of one of the least known islands in Alabama.
Hawaii Manta Dive 2003
มุมมอง 694 หลายเดือนก่อน
I got SCUBA certified on the Big Island in Hawaii in June 0f 2003. Shortly after certification I did this night dive with the Manta Rays. Needless to say, that dive set the bar pretty high and nowhere has even come close to the beauty of diving in Hawaii.
1st Lake Martin Trip in my Aventura 2
มุมมอง 4557 หลายเดือนก่อน
Lake Martin is only 20 minutes from my home airport. I am beginning to "stretch my legs" and this is my first trip there in this aircraft, an Aventura 2. It was a bit cool and windy, but I got in and out safely.
Aventura 2 on the water

Here is some drone footage of my beautiful Aventura 2 on Lake Jordan. I'll be producing lots of videos featuring this plane.
Landing at Ski Chaste
มุมมอง 2.8Kปีที่แล้ว
When I bought my Aventura the thought of landing here was definitely on my mind. It took 3 hours to get there at 50mph, but it was a lot of fun. Can't wait to go there in my Aventura II.
What would Mach 1 look like one foot off the water?
มุมมอง 232ปีที่แล้ว
Obviously this is a time-lapse video sped up to exactly Mach 1 or the speed of sound. Does it look faster or slower than you imagined?
Joy of Adventure

This video is tribute to the greatest machine I've ever owned, my Aventura UL. It took 3 years to find it, 7 months to rebuild it, and THOUSANDS of hours dreaming about it. This is what I dreamed of.
Glassy Water Landing in Aventura Ultralight

Landing in glassy water is difficult because you lose all depth perception. Here is one of my early attempts with my inspiration in the inset. Taken at Lake Jordan in Alabama.

Microsoft Flight (MSF) 2020 vs REALITY (ULTRALIGHT)
มุมมอง 8293 ปีที่แล้ว
Sure, MSF2020 does a great job of replicating landing an A320 in Paris. But how does it do replicating a flight in an ultralight in Nowheresville, AL? Pretty good, actually. These are all points that local pilots are well familiar with. I have tweeked none of the settings. I'm running a water-cooled i9, 3090 video card, and 32 Gigs of memory. Let me know what you think and post links to your vi...
William Brock as James Bond TWO!
มุมมอง 2294 ปีที่แล้ว
It was rainy today and I couldn't fly in reality, so I flew in virtual reality! I decided to recreate the famous scene in Octopussy where James Bond flies a BD5-J through an open hangar. Nailed it! Even though it's just a simulator, I still get butterflies flying 3ft off the deck doing 250 knots!

don't even think about ... its a death wish ... current pilot btw
Sure would like to know what the strut-braced biplane, painted like a P6E Hawk is in the night shot at 1:43.
Great video What parachute you have ?
Wow
If some s.o.b. screws around so much that it causes everyone else to have pay to get training and a ultralight license. I'm gonna be pissed. I've waited a very long time to learn to fly like this. I still haven't tried it due to money issues. It's just sad that a couple of people can screw it up for the test of us that want to do it right.
VERY interested in owning and learning to fly an ultralight. Was seriously looking at paramotoring, but at 60 y/o foot launches probably aren't realistic (for me), and a trike paramotor might as well graduate to an ultralight. Great information on how to proceed without inviting a tragic ending. Liking and subscribing.
I haven't flown in an Ultralight for 40 years but I have around 200 hours in the MX MX II and MXL. I've recently decided to return to flying and I'm in the process of obtaining a Sport Pilot license in Gyroplanes. I would never recommend anyone teach themselves to fly an ultralight. The hazards are too great and it isn't worth your life. Learning to fly the Gyros has been fun and most of my ultralight background has helped me but it isn't the same. Very good video BTW.
Agreed. Ultralights are dangerous, but Gyros are even more unforgiving. Good luck with your Sport Pilot license!
Very nice 💖
I appreciate you taking the time to watch!
rule is you must maintain 1000 feet from a populated area. However, flying low over a freeway with trees on both sides is asking for trouble. My training taught me to always have an emergency landing area in sight. If his engine had failed with trees on both sides, he would have been forced to land on interstate and probably got run over.
I have a light sport aircraft license for my aircraft which is basically a weight shift control wing, two seater and a Rotax 670 HP engine. I trained in North Georgia with a CFI min of 25 hours of flight time which took 9 months. The CFI instructed me on laying out a flight path on a sectional chart and we landed and took off from 3 airports min range had to be 50 miles. I was then required to fly that flight path solo. This was after flying solo myself at least 10 hours. I had to pass an FAA required test for weight shift control light sport aircraft and I had to fly with an FAA inspector to determine I knew what I was doing. All this had to be signed off in my log book. There is no way I would ever recommend anyone flying without flight lesson, you will kill yourself. The thermals ca be brutal and you better know how to deal with them. Once you are in the air, it is not like you can pull over for a break. You are the POC and you must handle all situation or you are dead. I had to learn engine out landings, stalls, maneuvers maintaining altitude with 10 ft, touch and go, sectional map reading and other type of information available on line. I was certified in about 11 months. I flew my aircraft from N Georgia on a June day leaving at 7 am about 130 miles south to my city and airport hanger. The thermals were brutal in the summer.
Your training sounds very thorough.
I showed up Saturday afternoon and everyone was already gone lol
You said don't buy one you can fix up and then he goes and fixes one up
Airport manager has the authority to keep ultralights off the field, if the need arises!?!
Actually, our manager said she can advise them not to do it, but she cannot deny them access to the runway. Unfortunately for many, lots of airports simply ban ALL ultralights.
Cessna cherokee??
Great video Bill, and gorgeous weather! I can’t believe your tall ass could fit in that tent!
It was actually pretty comfortable! I've got a pretty good sleeping pad, and the tent is extra tall. I have another tent that's much larger for when I'm not alone
RC does not translate into flight experience
is there a Calander with map that shows the fly in s across the US

"Where is he going? Where is he going, where is he going??" 😂😂😂 No where that's where he is going.😅😅😅
I didn't even remember saying that until I watched the video. I guess I was thinking he was turning toward the FBO on purpose. Lucky he didn't hit it.
Great video. Please make more. Thank you
Thank you! Will do!
Only 3 hrs from me and I missed it.
Plenty more in the future. www.eaa.org/eaa/events
I am a great knowledgeable pilot. Now, watch this!
@extremeultralightaviation holy crap i landed a Cessna when i was younger at an airport with a experienced pilot of course but first attempt i had to throttle back up and climb because i came in 2 fast circle back around but 2nd attempt i nailed it seemed easy again tho had experienced pilot with me i was flying the guys personal plane he said that was pretty good for doing it on 2nd attempt had the idea to get an ultra light myself because no liscence required thought hell if i can fly a Cessna and land it why not an ultra light was thinking of buying one in the future and learning myself but im glad i watched this because it definitely has me thinking to just get training using my gi bill now too first do commercial pilot license and then get ultra light training as it seems theres definitely a difference in handling and techniques to fly ultralight so glad that u made this video i hope more people watch it as the no license requirement can definitely lead some to believe they can just go fly it
I watched an ultra light video and said to myself I can buy that plane. I immediately watched your video next. You may have saved my life. Thank you!!!
Love your video very informative..Hope you're getting paid from monster and go pro for the free advertisingYou're doing on the tail for them. Just preference for me, but stickers are for the toolbox. Period if you want me to put a sticker on something you're gonna have to pay me brother. Stay safe love airplane in the video
I have to say that I taught myself how to fly on a weedhopper I never had any unfavorable experiences I had over $100 flying it before I went down and got a pilot's license and I solo the 172 in less than 6 hours the only reason why the instructions said that I didn't solo sooner was because I needed to learn the radio controls and proper navigation and traffic patterns of the airport at the time I got my license back in 2000 Samsung iPhone mini aircraft and chest flown many aircraft for many people that's built them my instructor said I was very gifted the most gifted that he'd ever taught and several times my instructor asked me how he would fly a certain aircraft that he was teaching a student and that he built himself I gave me advice once he didn't follow it and they went into an accelerated stall with the student in the aircraft about 100 ft off the ground if you would have followed my my opinion he wouldn't have crashed the plane but luckily you neither one of them were hurt just the aircraft and their pride but I don't suggest anybody really going out and teaching themselves like I did I also bought a helicopter and taught myself how to fly it also without any instructions after I completely rebuilt it
These are actually some perfect examples of completely incompetent window lickers that should've never been in those seats. And those comments proves just how many more dumbfucks there is out there just as lost as the " piolets" if you want to call them that. But whats really depressing about this the reality that, You Can't Fix Stupid. So this will always happen. Sadly. We the ones who have some sense of reality just have to accept this and just continue to do what we can. Because, you can't fix stupid
Its the new hair gel.
It's only common sense to get some training & anyone spending a large chunk of money really ought to think about training as a good way to protect your investment, not to mention your life. Perhaps there could be a method of when you buy one of these that there's a Seller/Buyer required 2 hours where the buyer is taught about the plane they're getting & how to operate it ending w/ a short flight? IDKnow how this idea might work but I don't want to many more LAWS & stuff for us to follow. We already got more than we can follow but I digress. I'm all for training but not any mandated stuff or tickets for not complying. And I am LQQKing to buy one of these one day. Good video/content ! peace
Good message here! Fly safe everyone! That means get some training first and also in a similar type aircraft if possible.
I’ve owned and flown two different ultralight aircrafts after reading flight manuals, books regarding . Long ago
Great video. Just curious, where are you based? You sound like you come from my neck of the woods. Nevermind, got further into the video and figured out you're probably in Bama. Thought maybe you were an Arkie like myself. Wow, that idiot about the hiway. Just speechless on that one.
Dumb ways to die
I don’t have the balls to try flying without anyone to teach me lol. After all, it’s not like learning how to operate a boat or ride a motorcycle where if I get confused I can just stop and collect my thoughts.
So what was the problem with the guy flying over the highway?
must maintain 500 ft from any person, vehicle, or vessel.
National Geographic August 1983 Birdmen article. Quicksilver on a trailer attached with cables. Just long enough to fly while being towed with a pickup truck. That pilot was me.
WOW! Still flying?
I have heard that the ultra light helicopter is the safest it can land with no power
gyrocopter. Yes and no. Without training they are prone to PIO, Pilot Induced Oscillation. But they are always in autorotation and power out landing is usually no problem.
I’m certain I could LEARN to fly a light aircraft or ultralight. But no way I’d try it without training.
He’s damn lucky he only made contact with the ground
I think you may have just saved my life. I have also been a believer of ' you never realize what you don't know until after you've learned it ' airro arrogancy Kills
“I’m rich, which allows me to be stupid!”. “Stupid is, is what stupid does”, again!
Is this video real?!!!? I cant imagine witnessing this. I cant imagine being the pilot. WTF!
Love your copilot looks like my dog but much braver 😮
What price range is this aircraft?
They guy bought is for less than $4K, but it really needed new sails. So for another $1700 he'd have had a nice, fun plane.
What model aircraft is this, i like it.
Quicksilver. Frequently available used. I don't know if the factory is still making the kit.
Im curious does the air scoop hace screen over it. Looks like it could fill up with debris otherwise.
You'd better learn airspace, or you might stray into military V way. That would wipe you out in a heartbeat.
Is this east Milton? Home of Florida Man!
Bring back the Darwin Awards...
The rules, procedures, and a solid foundation in flying is mandatory……unless you are doing suicide by AC. In which case…….never-mind. But for the rest of us knuckleheads……….the rules are written in blood. Fine vid. Thanks
I want one of these ultralights someday!!! I think ill get training tho!!😂 I want my wings to work!! 😂 🕊️ My Uncle use to fly r/c planes... Just watching the joy he got flying those was amazing!!! Im a lot smaller guy than my uncle was!!!😂😂 And i like to work on small engines!!🎉 Sounds like a fun hobby!!😂
