2003 Ford Expedition Ep 7: More Rust Removal Plus Paint and Polish, Part 2
Rust remediation project is tackled in this episode. It was a lot of work to prep, paint and polish the truck, but I'm pleased with the results. I've been budget conscious on this truck since purchase. My goal is to make it a respectable looking, reliable runner. At least I've been able to make it look respectable. Stay tuned for more!

2003 Ford Expedition Ep 6: Paint Touch Up and Scratch Repairs, Part 1
มุมมอง 214ปีที่แล้ว
Time to put some lipstick on this pig. The truck had some nasty scratches on the passenger side. Looks like the previous owner had a run in with a disgruntled ex wife or something. I'm no paint and body guy, but I try my hand at removing the surface rust and sealing the paint to prevent it from coming back. This isn't a "how to" as it is more for entertainment in seeing what I did to fix it. St...

  • @ronhat-nx6yq
    @ronhat-nx6yq 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

    The videos I have seen about these ridiculous door latches are all incorrect or partially correct. The plastic sleeves that fit on the ends of the door latch cables disintegrate. This is on my 2006 ford ranger. It has an upper and a lower latch on the rear doors. (extended cab). New latches for this thing cost a hundred dollars each. But new metal sleeves to repair the cables can be bought for 10 dollars. The rear door handles must be removed. First punch the center out of the rivets holding them in place then drill the rivets out. Remove the cables from the handles by sliding the plastic sliders back.Then remove the top and front latches. The cables on the latches must not and cannot be removed. Make enough slack in the cable to install the new sleeves on the latches. This must be done first as you cannot get the cables balls out of the latches. Then install the new sleeves on the door handle cables. There are plastic sliders on the handles that hold the handle cables in place. Then use long nose pliers to install the cables in the door handles. You can use new rivets to reinstall the handles but a short sheet metal screw is better.

    Just a heads up for anyone attempting this fix let it be known its NOT the plastic gear which is the issue. It's the motor itself becoming loose from the gear housing. The metal tabs that are pressed against the gear housing over time will loosen up and allow the steel worm gear to wobble inside the gear housing. This is what will strip even a brass gear over time. The real fix I have seen is again pressing the tabs back tight against the housing (more often than not you cannot do this because the metal tabs are probably too weak anyway), and insert a hard plastic strip behind the worm gear. This will prevent it from wobbling again. Or you can just pick up a new headlight motor assembly cheap off Rock Auto as well. That's what I did. EDIT: Also if you want to be real cheap these headlight motors only use half of the gear anyway to lift the headlights. So you can just open it up and rotate the gear 180 degrees and put it back in and have a working headlight motor again.

      Even easier than that, couldn't a guy remove the linkage rod, manually rotate the gear 180 degree and put it back together.

    Recently got a very very similar truck. Same year, color, and trim with the unsafe and unusuable side pocket seats when it comes to baby car seat. I'm trying to find info on doing a hidden receiver hitch so it sits higher to keep a trailer more level when towing. Not the best search results thus far but great video for the hitch you installed.

      The ranger is an awesome little truck but not a great family hauler for sure. My daughter drives this truck now to get her to collage during the week. Glad the video was of some help for you!

      Thank you! It’s not a terrible job to do but it can get a little tedious. Good luck on your repairs, and I’m happy the video has given you some insight on the task!
