Long-EZ N916WP - Another Project Update
The building of Long-EZ N916WP. I wanted to provide another project update before I flip the fuselage inverted to shape and glass the bottom strake skins. In this video I cover some miscellaneous finished build tasks, but primarily focus on the completed instrument panel and aft nose/avionics cover... two very significant milestones in this project.
Be advised that I do cover pretty much every component on the panel, so fast forward through that section if you don't want to see all that.

มุมมอง 7K3 ปีที่แล้ว
The building of Long-EZ N916WP. In this video I provide a general overview and information on my strake, fuel tank and baggage area construction specific to my build. In addition, I provide some ancillary information on my onboard video cameras used for monitoring the fuel site gages and aft engine area during flight.

    Comfort and improved storage space. Very impressed with this next Gen build great work, wishing mine had all that.

    I have heard for a long while that building your own aircraft is a tedious process that takes years to complete. If you had to give the biggest reasons as to why, what would you say?

    How much would cost for interior refurbish , oxygen tank, new avionics and a paint job ?

    thank you for sharing this cool video, oh yes, are all materials made of carbon fiber?

      Thanks... no, most of this build is Rutan fiberglass: bidirectional and Uni-directional.

    Looks great. Why the four forward camlocks? Dont the goose neck hinges hold well enough?

    • @wade-airdog7726
      @wade-airdog7726 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The aft nose cover is fairly light and I didn't want any wind getting up under the front part of it. With only the hinges attached there is a good bit of movement, especially left to right, so I wanted to ensure it was tight... especially during flight.

    To my way of thinking he's doing the build backwards. I've built two Long EZ's and my hard fast rule is to not even THINK about panel, upholstery, etc. until ALL the glassing and bodywork is done through finished and sealed primer. I built my first Long EZ in 23 months while I was working full time at my regular job.

      How many hours did you have into your build?

    • @99bx99
      @99bx99 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@kevinhale1036 About 2,500 hours to build a LE start to finish including final paint. I'm building a third one now. ALL the bodywork and priming is done except for gluing on the winglets which I'll be doing this weekend.

      The beauty of these tanks is condensation isn't even an issue. Funny comment though.

      You can build Composite aircraft pretty cheap. Look up the Arnold AR-5. No plans available, but something similar probably only costs $5,000 in materials plus engine and instruments. There were small homebuilt running on Briggs & Stratton lawn-mower engines (25-35hp). A small lightweight 300lb/150kg design with 30hp might work pretty good. Probably Less than $10,000 for all new components, including motor.

      @wade-airdog7726 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks! That's one reason why I built a composite plans airplane vs a kit.... you can buy a little bit of material each month to build.

    Keep in mind water doesn’t have the same weight or volume / density as fuel.. especially ll100.... look into that info for accurate measurements ..

    Seats and headrests look great, panel looks great and the avionics cover looks really useful, interesting lights switch setup, and interesting to hear about the emergency gear extension. Love seeing and hearing about your build as always and all the best on the flip and glassing of the bottom.
