Hello, I just found your channel.... I used to live in Colorado Springs, CO when I was stationed at Fort Carson up until I got out of the Army in 1990. I moved to Florida in 1992, a couple of years after I got out of the Army, my sister lived in Florida, but I ended up moving to Florence, SC to find better job opportunities (Hurricane Andrew had just wiped out the southern half of Florida just after I bought my plane tickets) and my parents lived here in SC. I grew up in Buffalo, NY, and I had always dreamed of living in Colorado from listening to John Denver's song "Rocky Mountain High".... so when I joined the Army in 1986 and found out I would be stationed in Colorado, I was so happy!! I missed out on seeing a lot of what you showed here due to lack of transportation and wasn't aware of what was available as far as things to do. I did make it to Manitou Springs though, went up to the top of Pike's Peak a few times on the old version of the Cog Railroad, and I loved it! I do remember the street fair that they had each spring in Manitou Springs, do they still do that? I believe it was where they have the American Indians doing their dances and the shadows from the son made their outfits look like birds flying from above..... they shut down a bunch of the streets so vendors could set up their carts, etc, it is a memory I will never forget! I still have a lot of those pictures too! I have a picture of my son who was only about 5 months old at the time (he'll be 35 next month), and one of the Old Indian Chiefs held him so I could take a picture with the 2 of them..... Like I said above, I live in the Pee Dee Region of South Carolina now, and my son's fiance is Pee Dee Indian.... I just had 5 x 7 pictures made to give to her and her family. I do know that Pike's Peak is named after General Zebulon Pike, and his uniform and his wife's wedding dress is in the Miramont Castle Museum. Do you know if they still have the multiple train sets in the basement near the back of the museum? That was awesome to go through back then! I always thought that it was Zebulon Pike that founded Colorado Springs, but I guess I was wrong.... it's been a long time since I went there. I hated leaving Colorado Springs, CO, but all of my family was back east, and being a single mother of a toddler, I needed their help. Thank you for sharing this video, it brought back a lot of memories, I just wish I knew about all of the other things you can do there.... but I enjoyed what I was able to do! I'm not able to travel anymore due to serious medical issues, so I am glad to be able to see the world so to speak on my computer.... it's a lot less expensive that way, but I know it's much more amazing to see it in person... thanks again, have a great day!

You can’t hardly find parking and people’s homes and once peaceful quaint town has literally been invaded by tourists! I had a tourist walk up to my house wanting to come inside like it was a historic tour!! NO! PLEASE GO HOME! Tourists have ruined Colorado!

Is there any pics showing how close the incline is to the cog RR...I was there last October and enjoyed Manitou Springs but overall annoyed because I close to alot of attractions but couldn't make heads or tails of the streets to get around...I did drive to the top of Pikes Peak and went to Cripple Creek..

I call BS...I have lived in the Springs all my life and I haven't seen a decent single family home here in probably 10 years or better! My daughter and her family have been looking for 3 years for a home at $300k or less. If they can find something at that price it's a crappy home or in a really bad part of town. Also if you get in a townhome or condo, the HOA fees are so high you might as well have paid double for the home. And Shook Run?!? You better have a gun! When did D11 become a top-rated school district?!? It's almost the worst!

I considered the Falcon area. I loved the fact that houses were, on average, about $100k cheaper for similar models than the Powers corridor. The down side, at least for the builder I wanted to use, they didn't offer basements (Challenger) and the communities didn't have the same amenities (pool, fitness center) like Wolf Ranch, Cordera, or Banning Lewis Ranch. Also, the mountains were just a bit smaller the further east you go. I suspect that also factors into the price point - certainly a great option if you can live without those nicer amenities - especially on a $/sf basis. Actually, the Springs is limited to expanding west because of the mountains - but that still leaves the other directions. We settled on Wolf Ranch - which is in D20, which we really like. Decent area and close to pretty much anything we would ever want, including easy access to northbound I-25. I've actually been taking my teenaged daughter out passed Falcon to learn to drive on those more rural roads. I love the fact that only 10 minutes away are some decent options without much traffic - although some of those roads have lots of potholes and many are actually dirt roads (which are ok in the _very_ beginning).

The political climate in Colorado Springs is one of the reasons we enjoy it here. As much as I love the state of Colorado, there are a lot of areas that are left-leaning or more so like Boulder. I suppose Boulder would be a nice place to live for yuppy tech bros that could afford that area. We considered Denver, but was really put off by many factors, including their political scene. Colorado Springs feels like a nice purple mix. I've been downtown and based on how the shops decorate, it feels pretty progressive/lefty - which is common for urban cores. Start moving into the more suburban areas and it gets more purple or even conservative - and certainly more conservative on the outskirts near the ranches. I can get along with most folks, so this fits me well. The low church attendance rate was shocking. I would have expected it to be at least about the national average, especially considering the high number of churches and Christian organizations in the area. 20% feels like a Denver stat. I appreciate Colorado's automatic voter registration with the driver's license registration that puts everyone into the unaffiliated category by default. While I considered returning to the party was I was registered in my previous state, I realized Colorado is a semi-open primary state, so there isn't a huge advantage in choosing a party. So, I remain unafflicted (lol). The increased polarization has me disillusioned with both main parties these days, so good timing on that. My last state was a closed-primary state, so I felt like I had to choose sides. Overall, seeing your neighbor as your mortal enemy isn't good for anyone except politicians exploiting fear to get elected. I also feel like my opinions on various policies are nuanced and vary on topic, so I no longer fit neatly into the simplistic right-left spectrum. My wife is far more conservative than me, so the fact that Colorado Springs has at least _some_ conservatives puts her at ease.

As with anywhere, you have to go further out to get more affordable housing. My house in Falcon would start in the 300s.

I hated every day of the 2 years we were there. Nice place to visit. Stationed there 82-84 @ Pete Field (now Peterson Space Force Command). At the time the Springs population was about 200k, now it's pushing over500k & on its way to well over 1 million. The local infrastructure can't handle the influx of people, nor do they have the ability to address it. They just voted to become a "sanctuary city", & they're just started how they're going to handle it, as they don't have the ability to handle the other infrastructure issues. It's become a "young democrat"/socialist city, but they'll be the first to deny it. Good luck in finding job if you're much over 30, (first person experience). We tried moving to the Denver area, but couldn't do it because most of the rent is around 2,000 (not including taxes, & fees) not to mention local taxes & cost of living. Don't see why people think Colorado is the next best place to Heaven. When wanting to take a trip out to the Mountains...so is half of the state, not including visitors/tourists. Imagine Half of California trying to shove their way out to the coast, not including tourists & visitors. Sorry for the rant, but these people telling people to move there is because they're realtors making their dime off unknowing people, or you tubers trying to get their ratings & subscribers up. I'm neither one, & just relating what the 2 years as an average Joe experienced there. Just saying.

We lived in the Springs 3 different times in the 80’s & 90’s (Air Force). Sadly, Colorado has changed too much for us. No longer a retirement option.
