Creating a basic HEC-RAS 1D Floodplain Model
Learn how to create a basic 1-dimensional steady state HEC-RAS flow model in this straightforward tutorial. I cover the basic concepts and theory of the HEC-RAS step backwater calculations used by the program and show the practical steps to set up a simple floodplain model.
I also demonstrate some ways you can review your results to see any obvious errors or warnings that may require revisions to your model. Hydraulic modeling is often an iterative process so you often have to refine your model based on the results of your previous iteration. With more experience and skill you can improve your initial model developments but even the most experienced modelers have to review their model results and make improvements to hone in on the optimal model for their specific application.
**Note, in the video when I go to run the model I get an immediate error from HEC-RAS. Sometimes this can happen when you build a model from scratch in RAS Mapper. If somewhere along the process you get some RAS Mapper error it can temporarily prevent model from running until you've closed and restarted the program which can fix a lot of temporary issues. So if you get some unknown errors from RAS, I've generally found it best to just save your work, close out the program and restarting it before you waste a lot of time trying to debug the issue in the active session. Just try turning it off and on again :-)

HEC-RAS 2D Model Sensitivity
มุมมอง 1.1K11 หลายเดือนก่อน
In this video, I explore the sensitivity of some of the HEC-RAS 2D model features and parameters. I'll look at a simple 2D model and test several variables for sensitivity. I'll evaluate the impact of cell size, use of breaklines, and evaluate the diffusion wave equation vs. the full momentum equation results.

    Thanks for the video, is there any way to generate unstructured mesh using break lines, I mean unstructured mesh for whole the 2D flow area.

    Hey, I like how you are technically sound while explaining your tutorials. I wonder if it could be possible for you to make a set of videos with different topics like dam breach, sediment transport and other common topics. Thanks so much for this. :)

    Thanks for sharing! Would you mind teach how to use the Meteorological Data tool to load raster file? That would be helpful and no one did it before on the TH-cam.

    Is it possible to draw a rectangular channel? Or is only possible in 1D model?

    Hi, thank you for your video. I have a question. If I have computed my rainfall excesses previously, so I suppose that I would not need an infiltration layer right?

    • @learnhec-ras5762
      @learnhec-ras5762 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Correct, if you compute your rainfall excess outside of RAS you would not need an infiltration layer. Keep in mind that if you want or need to have spatial variation in your infiltration, you will need to use gridded excess rainfall as an input to your RAS model. Hope that helps!
