SAILING CARRIACOU SANDY ISLAND & PARADISE BEACH - PRE HURRICANE BERYL

We sailed Carriacou before Hurricane Beryl. Our favorite spot on Carriacou was Sandy Island - just around the corner from Tyrell Bay customs checkin, but another world altogether. Even then it was just sand, coral reefs, palm trees, and salt ponds. Now, there is little of that even left, but in time, it will rebuild itself. The currents that drop sand there will keep doing their natural thing. ...

You guys are living the life. So inspirational ❤
We are indeed blessed to be able to sail now. After a long hard working life, this break is wonderful!
Terrible video! Shows me almost NOTHING useful about how setup, deploy, and control the Parasailor on my Lagoon catamaran!
Sorry you feel that way. Different than others. If you have specific questions, let us know.
Sailing the beautiful Grenadines 😍 ❤
Super interesting tour of The volcano buried city of Plymouth, AIRStudios and great sailing footage!
Beautiful tour of Bequia waters ❤
Thanks!
You mentioned not having any euros when you were there and your debit card did not work. Did the marina take US dollars for the diesel or did your card work there?
Credit card worked for fuel.
This was a great sail. Beautiful weather. Beautiful islands and a Montserrat arrival.
Yes it was!
The bougainvillea is gorgeous, so colorful 😊
Dawns favorite!
Beautiful scenery looking forward to the next video.❤😊
More to come!
I'm so enjoying your trip! So nice of you to share with us and fun to see the map with your progress. Great music...
Glad you enjoyed it!
I think the bird is a Northern Gannet.
Hmm. We looked at that possibility and thought it looked more like the booby. Are there characteristics you find?

Glad you enjoyed it
Sandy Island was beautiful and relaxing. Great beach, great snorkeling, quiet evenings.
Yes it was!
Oh my goodness! This just jaw dropping ❤❤
So beautiful! Thank you❤
Nice video- thanks! I may have missed it but was the old one broken vs just rusty on the outside?
It was rusted through in back. But still worked fine ! But it leaked whenever we ran the defrost cycle.
Thanks for sharing . Nice calm relaxed sail
Thanks for watching.
Another great video y’all. I like the music in the beginning. Thanks again ❤
Thoroughly enjoyed this! What a coup on a Fridge that you don't have to do handstands to use! Love the catamaran traveling graphics....nice!!!!
Hi Gail! Nice to know you are watching us in your retirement!
I really liked your video😊 no drama, beautiful sailing. I subscribed & look forward to more video.
Thank you! Love sharing the adventures with folks!
It Sure was nice to be back in our home port.
Indeed
600 MILES! 😮
That was a long trip for two of us. But it was worth it since we had an eminent tropical storm we had to find shelter from. Made lots of miles pretty quickly.
Nice video- thanks! What do you think happened to the (I assume) start battery? What kind of battery was it? Was there a failure of alternator regulator or other charger leading to it being overcharged? Thanks!!!
We don’t know for sure but it may have been undetected leak. The batteries are in a protective case and our usual inspection of engine does not conclude removing battery case! Scariest thing ever.
Great sail on Long Island.
Houses rent for 2500 a week, not per night.
Thanks!
We have a problem with the MUIR brand anchor machine, the power is weak and the batteries are all new but the power is still lacking. What do you think the problem is, the new anchor machine?
Sorry. We are not familiar with that
More sufficient maybe . But efficient😂😂😂
We can be friends plz
I'm betting you duck under the seat every time a plane flies over....🤣
The Compass Rose is tied up in front of us in Charleston, SC now
Making the rounds!
I've seen this boat in person it's amazing. We nick named it the adventure ship.
Same issue for us on our second controller in 6 years. I have read its the gfi inside. Would be nice to be able to fix them instead of replacing. Any one heard of repairing? New ones are going for over $400.00 now.
Only if you know how to repair circuit boards.
@SailingPILAR perhaps it's time to learn, I have kept both of them. I'll be trying to sauder a through hole potentiometer on a heater controller in the next few days to have a spare on hand.
Did you ever have issues with your raw water impeller housing? We replaced ours the first time because it had a slow drip... Now its leaking bad again after a year. We have a kit to replace the gasket. Hopefully it will last longer than a year... lol
No we don’t. Curious where leak is coming from
@@SailingPILAR it’s from a round seal inside the housing that just leaks. Pain lol 😂
@@MVSKOOKUM1 maybe need a different size!
Best Anniversary ever!
What an amazing journey!
How was Deep Bay? The jet skis drove us crazy😒
We did not have the jet skis. Thank heavens.
Where you said the St. George’s bridge is you spliced in the bay bridges about 80 miles south of where you were. lol the land is supposed to be 70 yards away instead of a few miles away. Must’ve had a few boxes of wine putting this video together.
Or video burnout!
We were on Sandy Island in Feb of this year and it was sooo beautiful, it's heartbreaking to see the footage of the aftermath. Hope you weren't caught up in the destruction.
Hi there! We agree on all counts! We were not there during Beryl but several friends were there and of course they headed south to Tobago to escape it. Where are you all now?
@@SailingPILAR Oh we're land dwellers stuck in the middle of the US but we've made that our goto spot over the years. Not sure how we picked it but glad we did.
Great video! Would it be worth attaching a stocking or some sort of mesh to the output hose in the bucket to catch all the debris rather than sending it back through the system?
Great idea!
Kudos kudos kudos
I'm so glad you enjoyed our beautiful tiny Mayreau - pronounced MY-row (like my rowboat without the boat). We look forward to having you back in Salt Whistle Bay or Saline Bay again soon.
We will be back! What hurricane damage is there?
@@SailingPILAR Mayreau has been absolutely devastated by Hurricane Beryl. Many homes and businesses were completely destroyed. About 90% of those that remain standing lost their roofs and have water damage. The beautiful people of Mayreau have learned to survive in very difficult circumstances over the years and are extraordinarily resilient. We have already begun rebuilding and look forward to once again warmly welcoming visitors.
@@nancysaul-demers66 @nancysaul-demers66 We are so saddened to hear this. But your people are a strong community, which will make the rebuilding process easier. Hopefully some of the help agencies will bring you the supplies that are needed. Wish we were around to help, but we are back in the US for hurricane season.
@@SailingPILAR Thank you so much! While the devastation of our beautiful little Mayreau has been heartbreaking, seeing the love and support for Mayreau people from around the world has been very healing. So many people have such wonderful warm memories of Mayreau and Mayreau people's unparalleled hospitality and they are helping in so many different ways. We so appreciate all the love and support.
@@SailingPILAR Yes. Together, we will rebuild, with help. I look forward to seeing you in Saline Bay or Salt Whistle Bay next season.
Plastic connections exposed to sun - wtf are boat mfg thinking? I replaced all my through hulls with stainless steel
Nice.
Glad to see you're living and loving life on SV Pilar. Beautiful islands! Thanks for Sharing - Larry
They are indeed. Too bad about Hurricane Beryl. They won’t be the same for years.
I’m glad you left before the hurricane arrived.
I'm going to change my AGM to lithium on our L48. Do you still think 1200 amp hours is enough?
All depends on your draw. Galley appliances, ac?
Another great video, I really enjoy your channel. How long are you going to be in Grenada? I am headed down that way from the BVI in Aug.
Thanks! We are home in South Carolina for now. In October we will head south again!
Haha! We will try this.. Need to be in fairly good shape..
Not really. It takes less muscle power than trying to get in the “normal” way
Sandy is an awesome place. Nice you visited Paradise Beach Club, miss Allison is a good friend of mine and I helped out building several structures there.
It is an awesome place. All the boats look forward to it!
