My speedometer on my sportster is reading high. I'll be going 20 mph and it'll show I'm going 80. Replaced the sensor, still having the same issue...

Can you do this without dropping the motor? I was just thinking about cutting the fender well with a grinder and leaving the motor where it is. It’s my car plus no wires so I don’t think it would affect anything later on. Any thoughts?

One question, do you hang a lot on your key chain. Could. Be the ignition. And I've had mechanics missed my regulator even checked it then I changed it and all is fine. Check regulator and stator to be sure with them. Check grounds. My bike is just letting me know it's sort of doing the same thing, my spedo stopped working but came back on again. I figure it's only a matter of time I'll be going through what you are going through.

My 07 Impala is only going forward in manual 1 and 2 and it also moves in reverse, just not drive. Could my forward band be broken?

So my sportster only runs on choke leaned over on stand. When I stand upright it sputters and dies. The tach is going crazy as it sputters. It’s all the way up at 6,7 RPM when it’s clearly not. Any suggestions ?

My wiring harness has been shorting out system by system since my speedo died.. because it takes over 4 months to order, program and recieve the damn thing from harley and it's my daily driver its taken out brake light wiring, front n back brake switches, the TSM, the speedo sensor was replaced 2x before I stopped blowing that money, now im.waiting to get the rest of the electrical system components before the bike gets completely torn down and every electrical component replaced! my exs bike developed a 'parasitic short' which is I believe just the start of his harness going out too..cost almost 2 grand to fix!!! I think these bikes electrical systems develop shorts in a certain place that may randomly short out or negatively effect other systems which may or may not make the bike run funny..or as in my bikes case cut off on deceleration. So far I've spent around 1800 to replace harnesses, the brain, tsm, speedo sensor, ignition, brake switches, temp sensor.. all in my garage ready to put on once I get all of it together. I still need my injectors, o2sensors and clutch switch...I've HEARD that either the temp sensor or the use of an aftermarket clutch handle will cause the cutting out problem but if it were the handle it would do it constantly and it does not . Its completely ramdom. Besides- when I'm running at high speeds, I've literally smelled and seen the wisps of white electrical smoke coming from the fuse box area of my harness before I loose yet another circuit... its fukin awful, one system.after another randomly gets affected. Its GOTTA be in that harness somewhere . Soon as mine is off it's getting tested wire by wire system by system.. I'm GONNA find out wtf is going on with our bikes DAMMIT.

This was a good read. Since dealing with firmware and software as a career, aftermarket speedos along with aftermarket performance modules, can have a difficult time communicating with the ECM and NOT send proper information; signal to all sensors that effect the performance of the bike definitely a firmware cluster f!@$. Curious to see if you remove your aftermarket speedo and performance module and put the OEM speedo back, have your bikes ECM re-flashed? I’m sure it will be running back to stock performance with no issues. Gotta love computer shit on everything. Sorry to hear that brother, mine is a 95 and have the same issues with indicators staying on one side only...its definitely electrical, since i changed battery cables, also sprayed electrical contact cleaner on speed sensor plug, once even found some cables being too close to heat source and getting melted which brings ecm to madness, good luck.

Have you removed and cleaned all your earth wires. I have a 2005 883 and it had real bad backfiring through the carbie. My mechanic cleaned all the earths and it basically fixed the issue. Just an idea.

Just got off my 2012 from a visit to the hospital. First and 2nd stoplights just fine 3rd light bike all but died coming to a stop had to feather to keep running , left turn in front of cop checked speed said 5 mph ran like crap low rpm pulled in driveway and died I just changed module last fall cuz only running on one cylinder!! Why do they go bad so easy??

These things are super cars. Too bad they don't come in manual transmission like we all want!!!

**Update** The negative wire to the speed sensor was broken under the insulation and couldn't be seen.. Cost me an arm and a leg to find this problem. Arlen ness found the issue no problem They listen...and they know how to diagnose properly. I suggest never taking it to Harley...what a waste

Nathan, if its the ecm buy one from the dealer and change it yourself. It should literally be plug n play.

Oh myyy god!! Nathan!!! Im having the EXACT SAME ISSUE!! Symptom for symptom!! Did you find anything? The only thing ive found is my left front signal isnt working at all.. bulb is good but no flash. No cancelling of sognals either! I cant believe someone else is having this problem.

I was totally gonna say the same thing. Before I even read the comments bro; NEVER b stretchin' that brake line like that! "Shoestring" the caliper up to the strut and b easy with that rubber line. They TOO AS well, fail over time. Either get bloated, or collapse and wont allow fluid to travel, OR will allow the system to decompress when you need it the MOST! Also, comin from a mobile mechanic, please don't smack the CV shaft end coming from the wheel hub WITHOUT the nut. Do it WITH the nut on there. Doing so, until it gets loose or 'free' to where you can remove it from hub by hand, THEN remove the nut. You'll save the threads from gettin all f\'(ered up, and EXTREMELY difficult (Sometimes impossible depending on just how any 'smacks' you've gotta give that CV shaft to actually come out)to get the nut back on during reinstallation...

What gasket had to be replaced? The one for the pump?

Do not do what he did and leave the weight of the wheel bearing and knuckle weight pulling on the brake line,thays a good way to pop your line.
