2024 Mammoth Tuff Gravel Race
This is the Mammoth Tuff Gravel Race from 2024. I competed in the medium length distance, which was 71 miles and 3900 feet of elevation gain. This video will take you through some of the most beautiful scenes and interesting sections. This gravel race was true to its name with the toughness it took to endure to the end. In addition to the difficult race, it was an amazing atmosphere in the Village Center of the city of Mammoth. The whole town was electric. With busses shuttling mountain bikes up the mountain, it felt like bike Disneyland. If you are coming out to do this race in the future, then bring your mountain bike too.

    • @SoCalSegments-kx5zf
      @SoCalSegments-kx5zf 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Great question. I have dealt with a lot of knee pain as well. For me, I have very tight hamstrings. So when I’m riding, my hamstrings are over active and my glutes are under active. So I dedicate time every week to stretching my hamstrings and doing exercises that isolate/activate the glutes. Another thing I have had to do is be careful not to over train. When I get too excited and increase my hours of riding too quickly, then I often start getting knee pain. So a slow progression has been important for me. I hope that helps! A bit of advice on positioning and pacing from a racer of 30 years. You had no need to hit the front on the 1st lap, none. If you attack sharply and are opening a gap, fine. But you rolled through in a paceline so of course the entire field will be on your wheel. Never pull off the front on a hill, particularly when you are near threshold. Pull until just before the base or start pull just over crest. When other rides pass, lock onto their wheel, not in open wind. Don't let gaps open, ever. Pay attention to wind direction. Hint, it's quieter when you are in the best spot and it's not always directly behind. Learn to make power when you are low and in the drops or forearms flat and on the hoods. You'll need to your highest sustained power when you need to be the most aero. Do fast club rides with stronger riders to learn how to save energy and "surf" the wheels more efficiently. You had the fitness to stay in the bunch, just need to work on that positioning and energy conservation. Keep at it!

    • @SoCalSegments-kx5zf
      @SoCalSegments-kx5zf 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thanks for the tips! I really wasn’t sure if I should be working with the group to keep the pace up, or just ride everyone’s wheels. Your advice actually cleared up a lot of my questions. Thanks for chiming in. My next road race will be in a few weeks. Hopefully I will successfully carry all that out.

    I can verify, that slip does not reflect your trail skills. As for flagging rides, I have flagged hundreds of rides. Most people don't know there are different categories and flagging rides informs them. Then a lot of other people leave strava on accidentally after a ride, don't know how to crop their ride and don't bother to look up how to fix it. So if you flag a ride its extremely likely they are not meaning to cheat. Flagging rides is always good, unless someone is intentionally doing it, that's when it gets negative. Well, also if you make a mistake flagging. I have been flagged and even though I am well above average, I am below amateur and none of my metrics indicated a cheated ride. So I just challenged it and strava took care of it. It did take some time though. Look for max speeds over 60mph, KOMs with huge leads over second, different starting and ending locations (usually indicates a care ride home) and long elapsed times.

    • @SoCalSegments-kx5zf
      @SoCalSegments-kx5zf 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @austindiaz7915 that’s great insight and advice on flagging. I agree that most people aren’t meaning to take over a leaderboard. In sycamore canyon there are a ton of e-bikers, and I think some of them just aren’t logging their rides as e-bikes, most likely unintentionally.

    Your audio recording sounds good. I think you have a good voice for narration. As far as the video recording goes, the blur and shaking are not ideal and maybe that has a lot to do with it being a night recording. Interested to see a day recording and compare. The overlays look good. I feel this is a good starting point

      The night recording was difficult. I think sticking to days is the way to go. Although that limits me a little in the winter.
