Audi A3 Knocking
มุมมอง 4343 ปีที่แล้ว
Catch up on what we have been doing with the Silver Audi. For those of you that don't follow the Instagram, the car started making a knocking sound in the passenger front a while back. First we thought it might have been the gearbox, but when that went and it was still knocking after we replaced it, we started trying other things. As we hadn't planned to make a video, most of the clips we had w...
i hate you
Hi! What brake lines are you using? Do you have part number? Thanks!
How do you know at what angle the control arm should be?
Gasket outside the screwhole sounds not like a good idea
Don't need to disconnect radiator and air con! Just swing it to the side. Wasted effort.
Thanks for the comment, check my reply to others
You should hgave left the condensor hooked up. Recharges can get expensive, and youll have to replace the seals on the A/C lines. Time consuming during and after this repair just to get AC functioning again, unless your AC already didn't work.
Kleines Pulley und die Originalen Einspritzdüsen na ja hätte 380 Düsen verbaut käme besser
Why most mini owner's prefer the r53 over the r56?
Supercharger whine, and more robust.
😊
nice video. my only worry would be the seal behind the gears on the water pump side. your lucky the gears were good. they cost !
God knows how long later and she’s still pulling strong 💪🏼
i just want to know how to replace the waterpump, your doing so much extra stuff lol
Did the rear camber arms make any difference to the handling, and what degree of angle did you go for
Will be attempting this at some point this year, unless i chicken out and pay someone else to do it 😂
Great video! Looks like I don’t need to worry about the internal oil seal between the PTO side and the pulley side?
Man Why did u stop I really like y9our work and content.
There’s more coming soon! I had a knee operation so I’m just getting back on my feet
great job guys, video done very well.
Did this brace make any difference?
Great job how many milliliters go into the non pulley side and torque specs would’ve been nice, appreciate the video🙏🏻👍👿👎💯
Where did you get new grommets for the valve cover bolts!? They're impossible to get without getting the bolt/washer and grommet. Close to $200!! I made new grommets out of some universal grommets on my bench grinder, but I'd like to have the correct ones! Just thought I'd ask. Thanks!
Hi has someone got the step by step guide to change the rear drop link please , thanks
Should be everything you need in the video mate, any problems drop me a message
@@natocars5548 is there a simple way to get the bottom bolt undone as someone said it’s a bit of a pig to get off
@@natocars5548 and also sorry to bother you , I haven’t got any axle stands , what is best to jack it up with while I’m changing it , also do both sides need jacking up to same height ? Tia
@@karlfield1374 No bother at all, Axle stands are a must if your doing it on the floor! I jacked both sides up together and then fitted the drop links but you can do one side at a time, it’ll just be under tension
@@natocars5548 ah I only need to do the one drop link as it’s the only one that’s noisy , do I still need both sides jacked
did you ever find out what the knocking noise was?
I didn’t! I’ve been driving it for the past 2 years like it….. I’ve got the dog bone mount to do and the top mounts and then I’m out of ideas!
@@natocars5548 nightmare, iv got the knock to, done drop links strut mounts, wishbone mounts, just about to do the clutch and master cylinder, but don't want to do it unless I know it's not the gearbox, as I'd do both together, but don't think it gearbox, been told could be the strut, I'm lost lol, just don't want to buy a gearbox if not needed.
@@kytauk1 I’ve done the gearbox! Are you modified? This car is on airlift suspension, so I’m wondering if it’s something to do with that 🤔
@@natocars5548 no mods at all, standard car, I don't think its gearbox on mine, checked everything, I think it's either dual mass flywheel or the strut, they can go internally and knock, i might just do the struts anyway, and clutch and see how it goes.
Just an update, replaced both front shocks and springs and knocking has gone, when we removed the left shock you could feel the play in it, saves me buying a gearbox happy days..
Did you support the engine in any way when lowering the subframe? I need to do this job soon
I didn’t no, the engine is still supported on the engine mounts
@@natocars5548 cheers for the reply dude, that puts me at ease about doing the job now
Did you change the rear calipers also? I think the JCW brembo brake up grade kit comes with rear calipers also.? I heard on another UTube that the brake system electrons has to be reprogrammed? Did you do that or does the new system work perfectly with out doing that . I have a 2005 Mini S convertible I speced out and bought new with 37,000 miles on it. Been in storage for 10 years! I would love to do this brake upgrade even thought I will only drive it t for a week or two and put it back in storage! Thanks for any details you can give me.
I didn’t, just upgraded the discs and pads. I just bled the system and all was okay.
just done my daughters trail arm bush , I did it with the sub frame in place and used a tool to draw out the bush and fit the new one .. real pain in the arse , next time Id just drop the sub frame off , can change everything at once much easier ... but stupidly I parked her car close to the garage wall and was unable to access the other side ... (school boy error ;)
Bro I was looking at your jacket and I was like dam they make those in red huh so I have one in black so I went to go get it and I lost it some how in the last 3 days fml or I left it somewhere not sure we’re tho
Hello amazing mini Do you use wheelspacers to clear the brakes?
I have done yes, 12mm
intercooler model ist?
Maybe it's Forge Motorsport, not sure.
Are those f55 brakes ?
They’re the jcw brembo brakes bud
You could get a new flex to weld into that de-cat to repare it and you could use it on another mini or sell it
Yes indeed, I haven’t thrown it 👍🏼
I'd just like to point out that guy was welding without a mask or any eye protection whatsoever. That's like staring right into the sun like 500 times.

Not bad for a homemade jobby, thank you for your kind words
Nice work 👍
Thank you George 😎
You dont have to removed the condenser line for the A/C. You can unbolt it and swing it out of the way. Also the RAD doesnt have to me removed form the plastic support. You can remove all the bolts and pull the entire assy forward to remove the coolant hoses. Its also extremely unnecessary to remove the intake manifold. the list goes on of things you did unnecessarily.
Hey scotty thanks for the comment! You see it as unnecessary I see it as maintenance.
Yeah a lot of unneeded quote on quote maintenance. Most back yard wrenchers don't have access to a AC machine to put the proper refrigerant in or disposal of the freon.
@@jb5139 Thing is the radiator support was smashed to pieces hence removing separate to replace. I had planned to remove the ac system all together and decided not to at the last minute down to people saying you might get belt slip hence removing the ac and not swinging it to one side. The ac never actually worked and it’s a 2003 car there was NO gas left in the system 😅 I appreciate everyone’s comments I really do, like I said earlier you say unnecessary work I say it’s maintenance
Great Vid bro 👍
Thank you Ian
How was the correction on the arms after installing the RCA’s? Could you feel the difference when driving?
Hi Matt, after fitting the RCA the back end feels a lot more dialled in, the correction is amazing and I can now have them set up to any degree I wish.
@@natocars5548 sounds good. I’ve been reading a lot online regarding them, seems people have split opinions. Good to hear they’re beneficial, I think I’ll grab a set for mine as it’s being built similarly to yours 👍🏻
@@09tamadrummer if your building it similar to mine then you’ll see the benefit as I did, I feel like the only time you wouldn’t feel the full benefit is if you don’t lower the car by much 👊🏼
@@natocars5548 I’m using a smaller lighter wheel, Rota Grid 16” so I’m thinking maybe using the RCA without the spacer? Rear camber arms, renewed bushes where possible, adjustable top mounts like yourself, adjustable drop links, hopefully it’s a recipe for grip with Nankang NS2R’s! Other bits include braces, roll cage etc. Just got to find the time to fit it all 😂
@@09tamadrummer are you running upgraded brakes? I’ve struggled to find wheels to fit over the brakes without spacers that’s the only reason I’m running them on the rear only to match the front 😅 Sounds like a good setup to me just make sure you can stop 😂😂
This is looking awesome!!!
Thank you 🙏🏼
Can i put supercharge on my r50?
It would be an awful lot of work. The battery is in a different place to start with.
Anything is possible but as Huw Jones has said it’s going to be a lot of work
and the main problem is that you will blow the engine since several parts are not reinforced like on the R53. Plus, many other components must be changed, compression ratios are different between both, ECUs must be swapped, etc...so almost no one has done it since it is so expensive that it is better to just buy an R53 :)
What was that mod you had going to you Intake
The one where I drilled the plastic skin ?

I did this job a week ago and used the PSB bushes, could not be more pleased with how the car now drives. What a difference! It is much easier to do the job if the subframe is removed completely, you can do the ARB bushes at the same time.
Couldn’t agree more! How did you find the install? Did you run into any issues ?
@@natocars5548 Apart from the weight of the subframe, I had the car on axel stands, it went smoothly. I expected a whole load of seized bolts on a 16yr old car but they came out with an impact easily. The old bushes slid straight out with a tool I bought on Ebay for £28 then I used it reverse to get the PSB bushes in. My tip if removing the subframe completely is to drain the power steering reservoir rather than try to manoeuvre it , one tip over and things get messy very quickly.
@@huwjones5879 we had 2 seized bolts but other than that access was limited as we left the subframe in place, yes the PSB bushes fitted great, great tip 😁
I am in the process of doing this same job. Needed a new clutch so had to drop the subframe anyway. My LCA bushes were perished and I replaced with poly. All front end bushes were replaced with poly and did all the track rods, ball joints control arms too. Still have to put the subframe back as of yet but really looking forward to it. Did you torque those sway bar bolts to spec? I’d imagine it would have been quite difficult to do on the car like that.
@@andrewr920 wicked man it’s a massive improvement when it’s all done, I couldn’t no I tightened them to the same as they were when they came out.
hi, those brakes were from a Renault megane 2 Rs? do you need an adapter to dock in mini r53?
Hi Ivan, No they’re not, they are the JCW Brembo callipers and they are a direct fit hope this helps
@@natocars5548 Thank you very much for the clarification. I thought there would be some kind of adaptation of a brembo caliper (Nissan 350z uses the same brake pad as the mini JCW r56), which I don't know if the caliper could be adapted to the R53
They are NOT brembo's. They are Budweg 4 pot calipers, with a Brembo decal. They are NOT the same as the 4 pot Brembo's you would find on the Megan RS, 350Z, WRX Sti, etc.
You need roll centre adjusters on the front else when you go over 110mph the drive shafts will vibrate due to the extreme angle of the cv joints. IF you don't fit them you will damage the engine and gearbox mounts and blow a cv joint.
That’s this weekends job along with inner/outer tie rods and ball joints 👍🏼
Is that the gravity performance exhaust?
Yeah it is! a good system for the price 👍🏼
@@natocars5548 i saw you also had to heat and bend the hangers on the middle pipe. Mine had the exact same problem.
@@spin1275gt oh really!? Perhaps it’s a common problem?
My pinch bolt snapped like yours. I bought two used hubs, removed the whole strut assembly and built them up again with new wheel bearings. A bit more expense but a lot quicker and far less frustrating. Strut top defender plates as well to help against 'mushrooming'
That’s one way to do it 😂 Common problem! I just went for the old nut and bolt combo like the VAG cars use, drilled out the threads to prevent it from happening again. Running camber adjustable top mounts to prevent that!
How much you charge for change the water pump on my mini cooper 2004 supercharger

@@ΑνδρέαςΚολόκας there’s not many options to replace the old oem rusted ones 👍🏼
@@ΑνδρέαςΚολόκας There is the possibility of 'Galling' but this can be negated to some extent with an anti-seize paste. Like Nato Cars says, not a lot of choice over the OEM ones.
i had this issue on my mk5 golf gti....try your all your subframe bolts that are bolted to the floor of the car ...the large ally part between your bushes you replaced you will notice on each side near the shocks there are also large brackets that are bolted to the car floor...these brackets have large holes and the bolts are thinner so when they become lose, the subframe and brackets knock against the bolts....... Be Careful as on my golf there were stretch bolts and i snapped one taking them out...resulting in replacing the subframe second hand of course....lol i replaced all the bolts for new not cheap also bought a washer kit to stop it happen again....so you could try torquing them up again...but the risks is there if that makes sense
Thanks for your suggestion! I’ll be having the car up on the ramp this weekend so I’ll definitely take a look at this 👍🏼
