I would like just to add 2 things: First about Ido, as you say part of his personality presented at the begginig of the story vanishes in the next arcs, I think this is related to the first ideas Kishiro had about his development, I think you have probably read it as I think it comes from the same interview you speak about but If my memories are good in the same interview Kishiro says that at the begging after the first chapter (or arc I don't remember) we would be projected in the future and Ido would be something like a killer that Gally is looking for And about Makaku I would like just to add that in the video game he has a bit more of development at the end of his fight against Gally, not too much but it adds a bit of content even if I'm not sure if it is still canon (It was when the video game cames out)

Nice Lovecraft reviews. I very much prefer real life locations and legends than his mythos and his stories are very empty. In that sense I like Poe more, since at least he offers good messages, like showing the danger of alcoholism (The Black Cat) for example.
