Can I use portions of this footage for a video project I'm doing on Jennifer L. Nelson?
Thank you Anna for everything…😢
Such great messages should be spread out! For that we the Music Ed students from IPG Kampus Ilmu Khas had this video as a reference for our assignment ;) its inspired students and you guys did a great job in making them.. You have our support! <3
These programs are as fundamental to building confidence, a sense of teamwork and self discipline as the varsity football team, as the cheerleading squad or JV basketball. The arts represents a different venue, to accomplish the same lauditory goals, for a different demographic in our schools as the latter. The same is true of the science fair, the debate or chess teams. We need to support all of our kids.
The Lorraine Hansberry Theatre was founded in 1981 by Quentin and Stanley Williams. My first sound design for the company was Dream on Monkey Mountain, July 1984 so this is the 38th Anniversary of when I became their resident sound designer. July '84 Dream on Monkey Mountain by Derek Walcott Nov '84 Home by Samuel-Art Williams Jan '85 Livin' Fat by Judi Mason March '85 Spell #7 by Ntozake Shange June '85 The Third Life Of Grange Copeland by Alice Walker July '85 Air Guitar by Robert Alexander Sept '85 L.B.J. by Jamal Williams Most of these were world premiers. Me and Stanley and Quentin figured out right away how to work together and I'm beside myself being able to hear Quentin again.
Arts are key for a kids development
Does anyone know where/ how I can watch this film?
arts are the root
Great video! Thank you for the inspiration!
Quentin was an incredible person, the world should be filled with sweet souls such as his. Those of us who attended class and saw him on a daily basis bore witness to his intelligence, wonderful personality and talent at Northern High School 40 plus years ago. It seems that the good, they do die to young. See you again one day in Valhalla, my brother Viking.
Wow! get..
OOOps! I meant great! chuckle...
Where can i buy a DVD of any Alonzo king performances? Its a gift for my ballet teacher!
Bought it off their site! Unfortunately, not the one I had hoped to get as there is only one performance available for sale. Though, my professor loved it! One of many great Christmas presents ever.
Got any footage of Actual Sho (GCPW)? Dang it, we just weren't that good at documenting our stuff on video back then (B.I. - Before Iphones) Thanks for creating and posting though. It's long overdue for the SF scene to get its recognition. LA and NYC always got the press.
Thank you so much for posting this and all the memories it awaken from my past. This was glorious art, fun, provocative , deeply human OMG Cockettes, Angel of lights, Blakestreet Hawkeyes...
I was born out of Bay Area Dancers

Bill T. Jones/Arnie Zane Dance Company in "Fondly Do We Hope…Fervently Do We Pray", an original dance-theater piece in honor of Abraham Lincoln’s bicentennial commissioned by Ravinia Festival and choreographed and created by Bill T. Jones. There was a wonderful and deeply moving documentary about this on PBS in November of 2011.
