Naturalis Mundi

This Channel started out about birding and birds, then grew into more a study of the natural world. Like a bug I went through various stages.. Egg (Birder) Larva (Bird photographer) Cocoon ( thoughtful Naturalist) and now... I'm not so sure.
In study I came across more and more reasons for advocates of nature, and also a desire to help educate others in the many changing attitudes and trends in conservation and environmental issues. Yet, in most cases, videos I found were either academically dry or stupidly sensational. There is a huge change happening in how we, perhaps too late, view our relationship with the natural world. These new understandings, without being academically dry or trying to be sensational, I now wish to share. Dedicated to Ed, Aldo and Rachel. Kenn too... a very cool birder, and Dante, an even cooler Biologist. Hats off !

Our Brook after a Thunderstorm 8/3/2024
มุมมอง 952 หลายเดือนก่อน
Often in August our brook is nearly dry by mid summer. Not this year. Not last year. Things have changed. My neighbors barn sit near its edge, and like most structures in the area, was built long ago to withstand floods. Things returned to the new normal now... a quiet brook in New England.

Typical June Day at the pond. Interesting interspecies behavior.
Bobolink Song Slowed
มุมมอง 1475 หลายเดือนก่อน
I met a birder named Mary who explained the anatomy that a Bobolink has to produce such a song. It is almost too fast, too complex. Slowed, however, you detect a series of individual notes that remind some of the Star Wars robot R2D2. From a science stand point however I wonder if the bird can hears this "slower". Or: The brain of the bird can process this information faster. The notes count.

Evening visitor appeared in the studio window. Decided that the mixed leavings around the bird feeders were a nice treat. Checked out the rest of the property ... the fox will be back. They have been here before.

My Squirrel Proof Flying Saucer Birdfeeder
มุมมอง 1097 หลายเดือนก่อน
I feed all the birds I can in an April snow. Some of the tricks and secrets as well as observations have made for a full day of hundreds of birds... right outside my window. The "bird haven" took years to figure out, yet it was worth it. Made a crummy weather day like a "snow day" when I was a kid. Springs retreat became a late winter treat!

In my small pond, the male Wood Frogs outnumbered the females about six to one. This looks worse than it is, and after time things settled down and another generation are on their way.
Ripley Waterfowl Conservancy (Winter Plumage)
มุมมอง 1357 หลายเดือนก่อน
First visit to RWC in the winter with a group of friends. I would urge anyone to visit during the year this Conservancy that helps promote and protect waterfowl and and other species. Winter requires an appointment, and its outside, yet it is the only time you will see such spectacular breeding plumage. This video will not "make any money" for them, (or me), so visit when and if you can. A furt...
Our Toughest Bird ( Is not a Raptor )
มุมมอง 1428 หลายเดือนก่อน
While Raptors in the snowstorms of New England seek shelter or fly south... the toughest bird we have, who Ben Franklin once in a story recommended as the national symbol, act as if a violent snow storm is nothing at all. Appearing in the backyard feeder tables a few years ago, when winters here were winters. Tough Turkeys.

Likewise and thank you!
Nice photography ❤ love it
So beautiful
Thank you!
Whoa! 😮
More rain coming. Noted that the hardware store was out of roofing tar for caulk guns.
Holy Moly!
I went down to look at it and Brian came out for the same reason... there was a low knocking sound along with the waters "rush" sound. It was caused by large rocks moving and clacking, pushed along by the force of the water.
@@naturalismundi4359 I'd love to have seen all that!
Amazing!! TOAD + FROG ❤️❤️❤️
Blind love :)
Green frog tryna mate with an American toad
Didn't work out so well. 😬
Blind love. :)
R2-D2
Indeed!
Love the shot of them at rest -- their bright, clean lines in contrast with those scruffy cattail pillows.
Could have stayed there all day.
Hello 😊 Isn't it just incredible to watch!! Thank you 😊
It really is. I think migration time for me is like holiday time for many. And you are welcome! 🤗
Beautiful images and music. Very nicely done. 👍👋
You are vey kind. Thank you.
Now if I would just learn to type! Vey+ very. 😊
A reason to be here
Very à propos sound selection muffled, indistinct. And all those little hands and feet...
Modifications of sound and music (as opposed to just adding) is important to me...the more I do this the more I ask the viewer to step into my perspective. Its art. We know this.
Beautiful watching them float in those waves
Thank you. They have a great elegance, not to mention interesting sounds.
Beautiful footage
Thank you very much!
Nice, this year? I think I saw a Woodie this morning at Stebbins.
About the same time, but a few years ago. The Woodies get here and even more so Forest Park very conditioned to human presence. A lot of time they skip out (with alarming amount of noise) in most places.
Wonderful, excellent music.
Thank you as always!
Always magical🎉
Wow !! 💖
You are welcome on some of these runs. Its a lot of walking, often in not so great weather. Things, however will get a bit milder soon, and some gulls, never natives to the area, will be arriving soon and passing through.🙂
Love it.
Thanks Jim!
Beautiful!!
Thank you!
This guy. I have no idea how he gets inside or how he sustains himself but there’s always one of ‘Em inside every winter.
Me neither. I think they must just come in the cracks around windows... but they do "just show up".
Beautiful vid.
Amazingly beautiful~ the video, subject, and music!
Thank you. It was a lucky find in the middle of the Montague farmland.
Liking again, Mr. Mundi. ;)
Absolutely stunning. Thank you for creating and sharing!
Thank you! Hope all is well down there . So far the winter here has been pretty mild, but a very strange year for bird migrations.
The more the merrier. An absolute treat, when you get to see them.
I have to cypher that this be the man who introduced me to some great music? (Looked at the vids). You are an artist!
Nice
I man of few words. Good to know if I need someone else on the water, canoe or kayak.
So peaceful!
Thanks old friend!
😂Love how they run with their spindly legs ❤😂
Super fast those little guys; they don't even have a back toe!
Excellent footage of Long tailed Ducks. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you! Enjoying your videos as well!
شكرا جزيلا ما اجملها

INVASION 🤣😂🤣❤love the full speed when they run 😂Pmsl watching 🤣
Hope to do a bit more of this. Right down at water level. 😊
Big LIKE
It was a great project! Thanks again!
Nice and beautiful video. Thanks for sharing. BIg Like 10
Thank you!
All of the birds doing their thing and appearing friendly. there are some bad birds lol
It is interesting in the second video, on a far colder day, how they became very combative. Some bad bird behavior... just like us!
Yes!
Nice and beautiful video. Thanks for sharing. Big Like 3
The Heron is a passion fisherman, otters great swimmer and Kingfisher a speedy fisherman. Glad to see them in your observation video. Big LIKE 👍
Thank You! I go back once a week. The birds are still there but Otters move around a lot. Maybe sometime soon.
Very nice footage of wildlife fisherman. Big LIKE 👍
Exhaled aloud when the otter rose up high in the water. A lovely moment. Thank you
Thank you. I will be curious if they somehow begin to recognize me. They seem curious in a way that make that possible. 🙂
Gorgeous!
You would have to get up pretty early! I have seen them out in Florida at 10am.. here we will see what the winter brings. I will keep an eye out for "slides".
I remember the first time I saw a river otter when I was paddling on the Deerfield River just below Zoar Gap. I felt so privileged. Thanks for reminding me.
There is something special about them. They seem incredibly smart.
i always feel lucky when I see and otter.
In this case, I had never seen them in this area. To see three? Luck X 3 !
@@naturalismundi4359 I think Males are solitary and travel more, Females will have young with them and stay in a smaller area.
@@cwetfeet I did get the impression that I was looking at a "family". While I know that adult Otters have a wide range, seeing them again in the same location might be really improbable as I don't live close to the area. As a huge lover of wetlands, and I have seen otters before.. just never three all at once.
Love the music!
Like the "Gulls being Gulls " video, I wanted to find the music that best fitted the attitude of the bird. 😀
Ha a bit of trouble on the tech front ..resolved and "returned".
💖 This reminds me of all the times on the beach with my mom, finding special and an unending amount of treasures and things to be fascinated with. I wasn't given a book, but much opportunity to just walk the beaches on the Gulf Coast and learn that way. Even now, in my mind's eye I can see the light froth edged waves gently roll onto the beach and uncover the uncountable numbers of Coquinas and I can hear them sort of popping and crackling as they quickly dug back in, only to be uncovered again. Now the coloring of the Coquinas is another whole subject!
My area was the Delaware Shore area. I collected shells, and one time brought home some Hermit Crab so hidden in Moon Shells that they didn't come out until I was looking at my treasures on my bed. Surprise!
What's wrong with Canadian Gooses?
Noth'n 😁but that they did a terrible thing: They thrived in spite of us, like Gulls, Sparrows, Starlings... so people hate that.
