@@CBA3lyrics The original song is ghostly, a person haunted by past mistakes and love lost. Deep in thought and remorseful. It truly embodies a persons reflection on their mistakes and regrets, and what they would do to take it all back; just to have one more moment to apologize or to breath in that persons aura. Your version evokes elevator music, something more palatable for the background of a ticktok video, particularly with the opening piano, the first few notes of a song set the tone. The first 30 seconds of the original are haunting "Ooooooo" with the saddest guitar that builds. It sets the stage for the haunting lyrics "I am not the only traveler Who has not repaid his debt. I've been searching for a trail to follow again. Take me back to the night we met" which just means someone who made a deal, havent kept their end of the deal and are now trying to run away from their debts in an effort to get back to what they lost in the deal they made. While your signing the exact same words, the autotune and electric beat just remove that emotion and make the lyrics palatable. Not only does it make it palatable, I find I dont pay as much attention to the lyrics and more to that beat. And IMHO, if im not listening to the lyrics of a song with lyrics, then I dont actually like the song. Sorry but the original is oozing sadness, can evoke regret in anyone and bring people to tears. The first time I heard the original, I cried, thinking of a personal memory. Im sorry, but your version is just devoid of the emotion and is incapable of evoking the same sadness and regret. That being said, I think the original is a masterpiece, I dont think it can be improved on. So by that thought, no one can do it better and every cover is a disservice. The reason I said your version is a 'disservice to the original' is if someone heard your version first, they may not take the time to listen to the original, which again is a masterpiece. Either they didnt care to listen because they didnt like or feel anything from your version or because they prefer your version and are now unable to understand the sadness. Im not here to be like "YoUr TeRrIbLe, DoNt QuIt YoUr DaY JoB" but I would just like to say that if your going to take the work of others for a cover, make sure your trying to put out the same message the original writer intended. Removing the meaning or feelings just removes what the artists felt and even diminishes what they went through. Im also not saying to not do covers, there are versions of song where I prefer the cover because I think the cover artist was able to stand back further from the work and see how great or messed up the wong really is and pull out the real feeling that the artists was too close to to understand what they themselves went through. Kate Bushes running up that Hill is a great example, she forced a song about physical and emotional abuse through an 80s synth to make it palatable to her audience and record label but the Placebo version is better because it better evokes the abuse the narrator went through. I could go on about what artists did it better what artists completely fucked up their cover but Im not here for them. Im here to give an honest critique. Your version did not evoke the same emotions and sense of regret despite the same lyrics being sung and nearly the same tempo.
