Are you over 50 and releasing, or want to release original new music? In the past 3 years I have worked with Producers and Musicians, talented Family and Friends, locally, and from around the world.
I have learnt how to release a song on Spotify, TH-cam Music and Apple Music. I have learnt about releasing video clips on TH-cam and Tik Tok. I have learnt about using different creative community platforms, Soundbetter, Fiverr, and about AI. I have learnt about PR, marketing, playlisting and advertising.
My name is John Huggart, and my artist name is Project Reverb and I've met many over 50's returning to something they did when they were younger, or coming to it fresh in mid-life.

Songwriting Contests - Money Grab or Golden Opportunity?
I asked on my TH-cam channel, and on Facebook what people thought about Songwriting Contests? And the answer was pretty clear - most thought they were, if not a scam, at least a time waster.
In this video I explore my experience with songwriting competitions and provide some insights, the pros, the cons, and considerations for Indie, Over 50 songwriters to consider whether they enter!
I refer to a number of organisations. I do not have any commercial relationship with them currently.

I'm way over fifty. Pandemic came. I started writing, recording, producing again. 6 decades later. Here is one of my many music videos posted in the past 2 years on Vevo - for consideration on your playlist: th-cam.com/video/_lPQGauF6Js/w-d-xo.htmlsi=ka6T2IZs_LrSGNlq . Thanks.
Thanks so much for sharing Rick - great work, love the effort on your film clips as well as the music! Added "Call Me Dont Text Me" to the YOuTube Indie, Over 50 playlist :)

Welcome aboard - I have added to Indie Over 50 on TH-cam :)
@IndieOver50 Thank you!
56 with over 36 years of professional experience and I'm still trying to figure out this digital age!!..... th-cam.com/video/eWKcsIs-wXU/w-d-xo.html
You have sorted the digital for Dark Love - looks and sounds great - added to Indie, Over 50 playlist - thank you!
I am from 71 and been playing guitar for many years. Was in a little rock band called Bravura back in the beginning of 90 played some shows here and there. Played lead guitar with some worship bands in the last 10 years. Last year I decided to start writing my own material using MPC 2 as my DAW. Have had several songs come out that are on all the streaming platforms, and I also have a TH-cam channel with some videos on it. Not the best but still evolving. Just started using Reaper and feel like that is a game changer on the music end. However, marketing is the biggest challenge. Spent a lot of money so far using Google ads and Spotify campaigns. Also learned to be careful of the dreaded bot playlists that can get you removed. Have to do a lot of research on what and who you use to be on a playlist and that's if you can even get them to accept your tracks. See movement but not stability yet. Took a break from it at the start of this year to rethink my strategy and make more music and will pick it back up later this year. Enjoyed your video brother will be looking for more in the near future. oh, here are two links to two of my latest. open.spotify.com/track/5xKgC09eAue6BBVy8pT1Kx?si=0619dadf47e24b5f open.spotify.com/track/29dtqCB9BdZqhI8HzqyRtN?si=1ca17f647a1f4a75
Thanks so much Steven, great to hear from you and thanks for sharing that journey. Thanks for the tip about Reaper - had never heard of it but has good wraps online. Good idea to take a breather and re-set, I have just done my first Meta Ad campaign and have also paused before it becomes a cash drain. I really appreciate your encouragement. I have added "All You Ever Wanted Was Love" to Spotify Indie, Over 50: Country And "Industrial Solos" to Indie, Over 50:Discovered
@ Thank you so much!
This is the second video I have watched of yours, and this is quickly becoming one of my favorite TH-cam channels. I enjoy writing songs, playing songs and recording songs with great musicians but I hate the process of promoting them which is probably one reason why I have single-digit followers on Spotify. I have been releasing my music on the streaming platforms since about 2017 and I have five albums out there. I love reading the comments and seeing the community you are building here. Keep up the good work. Thanks again!
Thanks so much for watching Dave - I really appreciate your feedback. Congratulations on releasing your music. But yes, its not easy to swallow the whole promotion side as well. Thanks again for your encouragement - great to have you in our community!
Anyone who has had success in these competitions will likely be more positive about them. Others who submit songs regularly and pay the fees yet never hear any feedback at all are left feeling like their art has no value. Either that, or those who never hear back are just not good enough, lol. It takes a strong attitude about the subjectivity of art as music to ignore being ignored. We are clearly in an era where a song has to grab the listener instantly or be doomed to the Spotify haystack for the rest of eternity. It also seems that any song that is not instantly identified in the popular genres is dismissed outright. You mentioned the badgering that some of these "competitions" heap upon the community, which to me indicates very little interest in anything but cash flows. Overall, for myself, I think competition in art is a sad reflection of our evolution as a species.
Very thoughtful response Kenny, and so true - my "positive" inclination has been set by my "success" with my first song I entered, and my expectations are grounded in the knowledge that no subsequent songs have had similar recognition - yet :) So true about the instant obligation to attract a listener or engagement. Only established artists will we indulge in consuming an entire album (basic Spotify advice these dayss for artists with no/small following is singles only), or a more epic intro. If Telegraph Road by Dire Straights was issued independently today would it ever survive the first 30 seconds scan!!! Darwin may agree with your final point! PS added Your Star is Enough to Indie, Over 50 TH-cam playlist.
I'm almost 39, but that's old for a rapper right?
Love it! And love your channel title - have subscribed! Never too old to rap :)
Thanks for building this channel - appreciate the focus on the "over 50s", I think we need it! I've been thinking about submitting a song to Talent is Timeless and you've now made me more committed to do so. I've tried to include a link to my spotify account btw so you can maybe include in your playlist, but my comment keeps being removed and I figure that TH-cam maybe don't like links to other sites?
Thanks so much Stephen, yes I've had this feedback about the Spotify link - only sometimes - please email IndieOver50@icloud Good luck if you enter Talent is Timeless - I have entered their new 2025 competition as well. I have added "The Whiskey Jar" to our TH-cam playlist.

@@IndieOver50 thanks so much
I have tried a couple of times never got anywhere though, I do write songs and released an ep a few years ago but didn’t know how to promote. I have thought about trying a song writing comp again but am not confident.
Thanks Gareth, promotion is really hard, whether it is driven by you creating content on the platforms, or even making choices about paid promotion. Totally appreciate the confidence gap - it is putting yourself out there - literally for judging! However, a success may be validating, and even no result, but hearing the winners and finalists can help inspire you.
I won a category in Unsigned Only and was in the top 10 for ISC twice. Honestly didn’t help my career at all, though it was a nice warm fuzzy sense of achievement - and looks pretty sweet in my bio.
Congratulations Gareth - thats such a great achievement - your summary of the benefits is awesome - warm fuzzy and bio fodder - another brick in the wall of creative succeses and hard yakka!
@@IndieOver50 thanks John. Now in my 50’s, I’ve come to realize the true benefits of playing music are not at all about cash return on investment. Enough ROI to keep playing does help though :)
Thats a great place to get to Gareth. And Enough is a powerful word!
I don’t think I’d ever enter a songwriting competition. I don’t need that kind of pressure in my life :/
Wow - Video is up for a few minutes and you've added a whole new perspective!! Thanks WWM :)

I have a request: Would you consider also making a playlist of artists over 40? I'm not 50 but I relate to much of what you're saying in these videos. I just have one album so far- by the time I was done I was so excited but I quickly realized how little I knew of marketing. Here's my "family and friends" intro video: th-cam.com/video/qfJz7V9TN0A/w-d-xo.html
Hey Thomas, thanks for reaching out and making that suggestion! Not sure what could rhyme with Forty???? :) I dont check birth certificates - so you are in a safe space! I'm not over fifty, just shy of it by a few years. I have been making music most of my life as a drummer. About twelve years ago I began composing and producing original music under the moniker the Hypocrite Orchestra. I wanted to thank you for making this video and to share with you my newest single, "The Mystic." @ th-cam.com/video/NBrhjTwZp6I/w-d-xo.htmlsi=hHYzhfvczK7pEJXZ
Congartulations - loving The Mystic and added to our TH-cam playlist. My core instrument is drummer as well, love seeing how you have progressed and produced such as a massive song! Whilst grounded in Latin, you have created a very distinctive and contemporary production and vibe in this song. All the best with it!

@ Thank you, glad you liked it
Thanks for making the time to make this video. I've found that marketing or paying for ads is generally a good strategy if you have money to spend. It can be extremely effective and organic growth can come AFTER paying for Meta Ads for instance. However, growing and cultivating a dedicated fan base from the bottom up is a much more rewarding strategy in the long run. Of course it takes far longer and requires a great deal of discipline to learn how to self promote and get good at content creation, but it is undoubtedly better than spending money on ads if you're low on funds. Organic social media promotion is better but just takes a lot more focus and consistency to see results. You can think of it sort of like compound interest adding up over time. Most people just quit immediately or shortly after not seeing the results they want immediately.
Interesting point about Meta Ads - I have only recently invested - and - early days - started to see the difference in building more engaged listeners than playlisting. Once I have more feedback I'll prepare a video. You are right - if you can do self promotion with great content - organic (free) growth is awesome - but comes with a lot of discipline and dedication required, and many will give up along the way. PS - love your channel name!
@@IndieOver50 Thank you for taking the time to respond to my comment. I love your channel! Keep up the great and informative content. You’ve made a ton of sound judgments and I resonate with you. what you’re saying is very thought provoking. I appreciate you saying that about my channel name. Being a musician, I tend to pour a lot of time and thought into my branding and image.
I'm not 50, yet, but I'm old enough to know that interesting people do not shop for music like a new shirt. You can't buy an audience with a marketing budget. You'll just get passive clicks from bots and people who are bored as F. Find some success without a single dollar of paid ads first - learn what it takes to actually connect with people first....don't try to buy them.
Thanks Jason, interesting take - not sure that any record company exec would agree you cant buy an audience (subject to a great product). Though point taken on where and how you are presented and level of engagement. Definitely lots of free options to build audiences - just a question of scale and your objectives.
Awesome video! put it on while making dinner. I too struggle with marketing my music - not over 50 tho haha.. best tactic i have found is submitting to music playlisters like 'alexrainbird' - who has a public submission portal. the listeners who happen to like my work from there tend to check out my non playlisted songs. Thats about it tho. I try to make as many live session videos as possible also which people seem to want to watch
Thanks so much - hope dinner was good!! I must have missed your comment! Love your voice and songs - Listening to Never Left, and Anymore and subscribed. Great tip about Alexrainbird. Subscribed and followed! Thank you for your music Grayson - and all the best with your marketing efforts - you are starting with a beautiful product and that is the foundation of success.
Thanks for the info! I turn 60 this year. I’ve never used Spotify, but after watching this, I might have to give it a try! I did 20 years producing commercials for a CBS affiliate. I also did jingles (which was much more fun for me 😂). Anyway, thanks for the encouragement! I’m counting on “It’s never too late” being an accurate statement.😂
Thanks Taggart, greato to have you on board! You are definitely in the never too late zone - with good company! And you have so many skills and knowledge from jingles and producing! All the best with it :)
Ahoy matey! We're INDIE over 50. thx for being here - Captain "Long John" Sinclair.
Yo Ho Ho! Welcome aboard - love this discovery of your chanel - 253 sleeps till International Talk Like a Pirate Day :)
Nothing will suck the soul out of your performance quicker than autotune/pitch correction. There's no shame in doing multiple takes and "comping". When I was 16, I had 4 tracks to work with. By 18, I was working in a 24 track studio-but still punching in. Now we have infinite tracks! There's no reason (other than laziness) not to get a take you love. Staying human is the only chance we have at beating the robutts. ☮💙 BTW, great idea for a channel. I think I'll *SUBSCRIBE*
Thanks so much Steve. Totally appreciate the 4 track reference and remember marvelling that Sgt Peppers was done on 4 track!!! And that was cut and splice punch in! I took the liberty of adding "Tragedy Porn" to Indie, Over 50 TH-cam playlist - now that is still relevant!!!
The best singer is the right singer. John Lydon may not be everyone's idea of technically great singer, but his track record as a frontman and an artist speaks for itself, and it means that when the Sex Pistols chose him as their singer they were right, he was the man for the job. The truth is, if you have to sing you have to sing, just the same as you have to play guitar, you have to play drums, etc. The vocation has nothing to do with talent. Music just chooses certain people and there is no choice involved in it. It is in the blood, there is no free will involved in the decision to become an artist.
Very good point - and, in the case of the Sex pistols - the whole was greater than the sum of the parts - they were a breakthrough creative force, arising out of Thatcher UK, and leading a whole new genre of music. Whilst I may have no free will as a singer, or a drummer, or a guitarist, or a writer - I can still question - is my voice, guitar, drums - helping or hindering the song. In Lydons case it is hard to imagine anything better!
I just turned 47, I'll be back in a few years. ;) j/k. This is actually a really good idea for a channel.
Thanks so much - great you came along - and yes we dont check birth certifcates!! :)
On the weekend I watched a couple of bands containing people I know, and found myself thinking about their various weaknesses. The first one was often trying to sing below his range, and lacked power. His intonation was also weak. The second one did not have these problems, but his vocal lines (his own songs) were very monotonous. Robert Smith is a good example of a singer who at first seems "weak" but actually has a lot of power and also good intonation.
Agree - Robert Smith elevates a song - with his distinctive character. Thanks for joining us here :)
Unfortunately Spotify pays hardly anything in royalties so it’s not even worth doing, in fact streaming services in general are a waste of time and money.
Too true, hard to be inspired by ROI on streaming platforms, and it is well documented that only a very small % of Spotify artists can earn a living from Streaming. In reality, many professionals need to eak out a living combining live gigs, sessions, merchandise, CD sales and/or royalties. And even these free tips all take time and effort! So it does come back to what your achievement goals are.
I have 58 😀
You have broken the shackles of 50! Well done :)
Apologies if I’m spamming my Spotify link, but it seems to keep disappearing
Thats interesting, they usually work. Other option is IndieOver50@icloud.com I found you on Spotify though and added Driven to Indie, Over 50: Eclectic

Hey, John. Greetings from Toronto. Enjoying your channel. The topic of working with younger people comes with the territory, for sure.

Do you accept over 60 ... but an "AI artist" ?? Don't hate me. I'm doing a little experiment: making first the whole song and video concept with AI and if it works, then I'll do a cover with real people and instruments. I don't have many years left of life and frustrations. Meanwhile, check one example: th-cam.com/video/N4c9UYYdmLE/w-d-xo.html
I'm 61 so I sneak in too! No hate for AI - imagine how painters felt when the camera was introduced, how Sinatra felt when multi-tracking started, how graphic artists felt with the Mac, how most musicians felt when Midi was introduced, digital FX - each evolution of technology has unleashed extraordinary creativity and opportunities. I understand the rightful fear and concerns about AI - it will threaten careers again, and it is a serious issues for copyright and regulators to deal with. My question for you is "how?". You can prompt AI with "give me a song about driving down the road into the sunset" and it will create a song! Or you can provide all your lyrics, and it will produce a song in your preferred style - rap, pop, big band! I am not aware you can take your chords, melody and lyrics and have AI produce it - although band -in-a-box has been doing that for years but it requires musical and computing skills.
@@IndieOver50 Hi! In case your question of "How?" was not rhetorical, here is the answer: I come up with a concept or an idea for a song or series of songs (LP). For example "Reality has become Satire" (th-cam.com/video/1533dVaKwRE/w-d-xo.html) then I write some ideas that I can think of for it, then I ask ChatGPT or Claude to look up for recent examples that illustrate the topic. Then I ask them to write original Lyrics (my native language is Spanish so I have problems with rhyming and counting syllables in English), then I review it and ask for changes. I edit the structure of the song (name tags within brackets) for example: [Intro: instrumental], [Verse 1], [Chorus], [Outro] and so on. Then I imagine which genre and style would fit it best, a lot of trial and error playing with prompts until something I like comes up. In the case of the aforementioned song, the prompt was this: "Dark dance, bass-line, textured vocal grit female vocalist, pad synth, offbeat rhythmic guitars, wide spatial percussions", and patience. My day work is graphic designer, so people pay me for the aesthetic choices or decisions that I make, the same here with the final result of the song. Thus the term "AI Artist", but it is pretentious, I know. I do compose music, playing keyboards but it is very far from radio-ready... Later on I will produced it more by playing over it to make it more personal. Greetings from Mexico.
Definitely not rhetorical - thanks for your answer. So effectively you have "prompted" the song. An idea, or prompt, for a song - eg. "boy meets girl, falls in love" - can't be copyrighted. AI has generated the lyrics and melody - the two essential elements of copyright. So the interesting issue here is - who owns the copyright in this song? I have seen many TH-cam videos on this subject. You probably have the "mechanical" rights, but if someone used that lyric/meoldy in their song - would you have the right to sue them for breach? Or would Suni/Udio/etc chase it down? And if you go into a recording studio and reproduce with real musicians etc - it would still not be your original lyric nd melody. Answers are not clear at this point. I am happy to add this song to the playlist. Personally I recommend you are upfront about use of AI for lyric and melody in your description. Though I do see the "altered or syntehitc content" declaration. And g'day from Sydney, Australia :)
I just stumbled across your channel now. Great concept! I didn’t actually release any of my music until I was 50 (First album in 2019), so this is definitely for me! Thanks!
Congratulations! Have added "Fade" to our playlist. And you win Album title of the year - "NonTrending.Unfluencer Album" Checkout @fytakytemusic
@IndieOver50 Thanks so much!
tell that to Jacob Collier 🤣
Thanks for the tip - I will now check him out :)
Agree with @TheRoseCityRockers - most female singers sound identical, to the point I struggle to listen to them - imo being able to sing well is no different to being able to run fast or dunk a basketball. 90% of it you're born with. I was an athlete and it was not a learned skill. The music industry is all about singers and image nowadays. The vast majority don't write any of their own songs and as such I have zero respect for them as artists. And the ones that do "write", generally just contribute a musical idea or some lyrics and the producer gets it done. Personally, I went looking for singers to collab with and found one of 2 things: they're up themselves and want to know that you already have a following so you can help make them famous, or that their voice, while infinitely better than my own, just didn't feel right with my songs. I think partly because as the composer the sound you're looking for is ingrained in the creative process, and no one else can truly capture that.
Cheers Matt. So true many hit new songs have many songwriters, including the performer - mainly just to get a cut or cred. And realistically - if Ed or Taylor wanted to record my song - they would be in a very good negotiating position! Well done for trying out the collaboration path - but understand it is not an easy answer - and interests need to align. The interest could be singing for a fee, or a cut of streaming, or to get acces to a new fan base. Ultimately, they need to connect, tap into your creativity, and express your song better than you can!
if you think most women sound identical, you've gotta be making an active effort to avoid female artists. in 21st century indie alone... you'd really confuse adrienne lenker, mica tenenbaum, courtney barnett, brittany howard, mitski, and karen o with each other? this comment is like if i said that all male singers sound the same because i've only heard early 2000s nickelback clones anyways, the idea that (particularly pop) singers should also be songwriters is a fairly recent one. no one gave a rip in the eras of vocal jazz, tin pan alley, brill building pop etc. performance is just as much an art as putting lyrics on a page, and singing for pop and rock is like acting on hard mode. we don't walk around saying, "ugh, i have no respect for these hollywood actresses! they don't even write their own dialogue!" that would be absurd! edit/addition: image has always been a part of contemporary music. it's no better or worse now -- and, besides, incorporating image into music isn't actually a bad thing. imagine elvis without his hips!
@camf4962 I should've clarified, i don't actively listen to any indie music, so i was really only referring to pop divas. And I don't doubt for a second that singing and acting well is impressive, and something i wish i could do, but from the songwriting angle i was coming from, i would certainly put them in the same bucket. Just listen to Ricky Gervais roast celebs at the golden globes about how actors are so much better than everyone else and writers are unimportant. Hilariously accurate. Reality is you can't compare writers to singers/actors, it's apples and oranges. And yep, image is great. But if you sing someone else's songs, you're a builder, not an architect :)
Thanks for introducing me to a number of new indie female singers I had not heard of before but now checking out - Mitski - wow! Very good perspective - we dont expect actors to be screen writers.
Great line about Builder and Architect - although it is especially hard, and probably rare, to find an amazing architect who is also a great builder!!
There is no such thing as good singing, only convincing singing. Singing is not tangible, it is definitely not a sport. Singing is primarily to carry the emotion of the song, it doesn’t even need to be perfectly in tune. I was hugely inspired by Lou Reed, a successful ‘non-singer-singer’ he didn’t record until he was in tune, he recorded until he was convinced by what he was singing. I don’t consider myself to be much of a singer, but I’ve sung songs that have topped the radio & singles charts. (Some of them are on my TH-cam page) Treating singing like a measurable athletic accomplishment disregards all the good stuff that can come from human vocal cords. Sorry to disagree with your angle, but it’s something I feel strongly about!
I was just going to say... If you go the "carry on" route, it may be best to figure out what your voice is not. If it is not 'smooth', if it is not 'bell toned', if it doesn't have a broad range, figure out what it _is_ , what gives it character? See if you can work with that and know that you are not alone. Tom Petty, Neil Young, Bob Dylan and many others have shown that having a 'great voice' is not necessarily about sounding like a Sinatra, or a Pavarotti, but rather communicating the song, like a Tom Waits.
Hey Gary - I love that line - "only convincing singing". Not sure we are disagreeing, my point is that you have to ask is your voice helping or hindering your song, and the tough decisions that may involve - certainly for many like me that dont have the talent. Lou, Leonard, Bob - some amazing non-singer singers - are distinctive because of the success at sharing a story and inspiring emotions. And clearly their voice/style helped their songs rather than hindered. I have checked out your channel and would love to add some of your Spotify/TH-cam songs to the Indie, Over 50 playlists - I can understand your success - very cool to meet this way.
@ hey John, I just started watching your videos, great content idea, thanks for sharing your findings. I love the title ‘Indie Over 50’ - that is me now at 53. I’m researching new approaches and playlisting strategies for my next album due in 2026. Please feel free to use any of my current vids. For another indie over 50, check out my mate Buzz Moller’s band called ‘Voom’. Buzz is 63 and a fabulous songwriter. We often collaborate and he is releasing right now, with a new album due in March. Just subscribed :)
Thanks so much Gareth. Your "All Eyes in the Room" is a classic. Have added to TH-cam playlist and also a new Spotify playlist Indie, Over 50: Songs I would love on the radio open.spotify.com/playlist/4dcpOwmKTb7cGL1RkG4duL?si=-ibdANjqSW2fBZDclTaFLg Very excited about your new album!!
100% - so many amazing songwriters dont have a "classic" vocal - but can connect. Most importantly, their voice does not hinder the song.
I just cranked up the Spotify playlist. I can't tell you what it has just done to my heart to hear real music coming out of spotify. Thanks for that.
Thanks so much - I agree - this has been a real joy discovering amazing artists on Spotify and TH-cam - I have really enjoyed listening to so many - I will put a feature up occasionally on the "Community" section - and would love to add inteviews in the future. There's a number of different genres but my personal favourite list is currently the Easy Listening playlist - open.spotify.com/playlist/2S4xBhMog24LhEpc4cRMAg?si=f9e3b970f5524052 including amazing artists such as @edddonovan9599 and @lkaleido
Algorithmic hug comment! Great idea for a channel. I'll keep an eye on it and wish you all the best.
Thanks so much for coming along - I really appreciate this comment :)
What a fascinating channel and topic. I had an objectively excellent voice (I stopped singing and writing decades ago). Paid for my university on scholarship with it. Now I'm starting to get back into music in my 50s, trying to get my voice in shape, remember how to form chords on my guitar etc. Unfortunately my own voice just isn't right for the songs I find myself starting to write. I'm a baritone and I just don't have the right range/timbre for the songs that keep coming out so I'm struggling to even finish them. I'll have to look into this collaboration idea. It had occured to me to just muscle through and release them hoping to find someone else to rerecord them and do them properly. It had not occurred to me to find someone else to sing them in the first place. Thanks for the video.
Well done on paying for Uni with your voice!! And great to hear you are getting back into it! It is amazing connecting with so many artists doing that. I love what one comment said here "no such thing as good singing, only convincing singing". As an excellent singer you have a great foundation - but it is whether your voice helps or hinders with the song - and finding a way to be comfortable with that choice. All the best with your music - look forward to hearing it :)
Just change the key of the songs?
Definitely an option, although range is another issue, let alone some songs just seem to "sound" right at C but not Eb!!
@@ThreadBomb I tend to write using acoustic guitar and I find that changing the key changes the vibe more than if I wrote with piano for example. It's a great strategy but it just doesn't work very often for me.
You nail this on the first 20s! Good stuff here is my latest song video for your consideration: th-cam.com/video/NvPwkc2RxIE/w-d-xo.htmlsi=s0Wx-zYAaAZeUC_e
Thats very nice of you! And thanks for sharing "My Mess Your Purpose" - have added to Indie, Over 50 TH-cam playlist - th-cam.com/play/PLiRT_bMGCY0D4JZgICJ2Alv3Y_vxpYUgD.html&si=OGlYnbQJrpsCx7T7
Great singers are a dime a dozen. Just turn on "The Voice" or any pop or country station... they all sound EXACTLY the same. The most famously recognizable music artists were never singers, they were vocalists. Mick Jagger, David Lee Roth, Neil Young, Geddy Lee, Pat Travers, Tom Petty, Joe Cocker, Steven Tyler, etc. sound better and produced more raw passion than any of those "perfect pitch/tone" clones that sing today.
Maybe a definition of great? But certainly agree that good singers are a dime a dozen. Those you mention have the "X" factor, and a few today as well, such as Billie Eilish or Bon Iver. These singers you refer to are instantly recognisable, and combined with a cool hook, impact lyrics and great music and production can smash a hit out!
PS. Just had a taste of your new single - "Going down to Mepmhis" - look forward to the release soon!
@@IndieOver50 thanks brother, we're looking to release it the end of january..
By the way, Autotune is just another form of pitch correction.
Fair :) I think of auto tune as spray painting and pitch correction as a touch up brush!
Thanks for your tips for free strategies to promote our music. Here's a TH-cam link to one of my songs that's also on Spotify, Apple Music, etc.: th-cam.com/video/x_Qml2iO1dE/w-d-xo.html
Thanks so much Bob, let me know if any of these strategies help you, or you would suggest others :) Dead to Me has been added to our TH-cam Indie, Over 50 playlist - like the two person perspective!
