This would be a difficult thing to deal with as a flightline director. All those people are not uninvolved people, they're all there by virtue of interest. But.... that could have been very much worse. Imagine someone's kid losing an eye or worse for example. No one in the hobby wants to have over-regulation at what is a fun event, but events like that could disappear through negligent flying(which ultimately is what that was). We've all made mistakes, and will continue to do so, myself included. However any incident involving models into spectators needs proper, close examination and lessons learnt!

We have this old timer at our flying field that is practically blind. He flies a Giant scale Cessna L-19 O-1A Brid Dog right over our heads and right in front of him cause he can barely see it. We have to duck behind the picnic benches when he flies. It's scary. Nobody dares to say anything to him. He comes for one flight and is gone. 😂

I was wondering about the FAA and remote I.D. Have you had any calls? You're only exemptions are on an AMA registered field. I hope the residents don't mind. Just be careful...make good decisions.
