When God calls you: "O Soul of your mother!" A Commentary on the Qur'an and the Divine feminine
So many of us long for a sense of the Divine feminine to restore balance to the overwhelming patriarchal readings of God and religion. A Sufi commentary by Maybudi recalls how God's love for the devotee is more tender than that of a loving mother, and has God calling on us as "O soul of your mother!"

When critiques of Israeli occupation, genocide, and apartheid are labeled critiques of Jews...

Here is a short reflection on what is revealed when we stand up to apartheid, to genocide, to occupation only to have some folks claim that it is a critique of Jews. Analogies with critiquing white supremacy (not white folks), and critiquing misogyny and patriarchy (not men). #Palestine #Israel #zionism #notogenocide #notooccupation #ceasefirenow

Allahu Akbar! Or, why God is not (just) what happens to you
มุมมอง 3073 หลายเดือนก่อน
Here is a little contemplation: In today's world, whether we are talking about individuals, communities, and even entire nations, there is pain and suffering everywhere. So many are asking: Why would a loving and merciful God allow this to happen? What if we come to see God not only as what happens to us, but also present in the way we respond? What if we strive for a "grander" God, One who is ...

Many spiritual seekers have found inspiration in the Star Wars series. In this discussion, Omid Safi leads us in a discussion in the Sufi resonance of Star Wars. I put a lot of stock in healing my own parents. I heard of one other person who had psychosis taking on that burden with dysfunctional parents and I suffered with it also. To become whole after such a rough start to life required the Qur'an and some other wonderful books but it is only a direction I follow, God shows me what I'm missing and how I can reunite with it. I hold in my hand the healing to all that ails me. I've been reading the Masnavi too and am absolutely loving it. I'm a slow reader so take my time with any book.

    My spiritual journey has started I believe for the final time. I've been reading an English translation of the Qur'an (Abdel Haleem) and feel like God is now a strong and tangible presence in my life. My town doesn't have a mosque but I'm sure there are many Muslims here (though less than 1 million in Australia). I decided two days ago that I want to be Muslim, by the end of today I will have finished reading the Qur'an. I'm finding it challenging to talk to people I know because whenever I say I want to be Muslim they immediately bring up terrorism. It's frustrating but I am by nature a very diplomatic and kind person so am patient with them and try to speak the truth. I came across you on Science and nonduality.

    As a Zionist I really appreciate your sufi teachings. Listening to your channel on the train puts me into a tranquil meditative state. The Jews have a long history in Canaan. The philistines (greek invaders) occupied that region in the 12 century which is the reason that during the British Mandate the region was called Palestine. The Palestinian arabs and the Israeli jews must remember to live peacefully with one another. Don't forget who started this war on the 7th of October. I think that anti Zionism ultimately originates from fear. What are your thoughts?

    • @brotheromid
      @brotheromid 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thank you for your kind words about the Sufi teachings I share. Jews and Arabs all have a long history in Palestine, and I don't find that negating either community's history is fruitful. For example, for the last thousand years surely it has been the Palestinians living on the land, farming it, etc. Surely we are in agreement that Arabs and Jews must be granted the fullness of rights, dignity, and equality. Where we might respectfully disagree is the "who started it" conversation. Remember that the ethnic cleansing of Palestine already took place 75 years ago, and that according to most human rights organizations and even Israeli ones Palestinians live under an apartheid condition. So without supporting the actions of October 7th, and while certainly seeing Israel's response as genocidal and savage, I would see the roots of the condition in a fifty year occupation and apartheid that simply have to be addressed if there is to be hope for peaceful co-existence. Having said that, I have lived long enough to know that TH-cam comments section are rarely the place for the most fruitful exchange. And with that, I wish you well and ask God to bless all the residents of this sacred and tortured land. Amin, Amen.

      salam and Ramadan Mubarak. The issue of the relationship between Divine will and human will is one that has taken up a lot more space that can be treated in a short TH-cam comment. :-). Probably the most helpful answer is that of the need to harmonize our will with God, as in the "when you threw it was not you that threw but God that threw verse of the Qur'an."
