I've seen every season, every episode of TWD. season 2 will always my favorite. dale wasn't one of my favorite characters, but his monologue in this scene is, in my opinion, the deepest, saddest, most powerful delivery of the entire TWD series.

I feel like very often, when people give their opinions on any particular piece of story driven media, they always do so in hindsight, and never in real time. This is fine if you're watching a movie made entirely by a single director/writer or a show made by just one person. You can't judge it midway, it's often too early because there has not been sufficient time for the showrunner to justify their choices in the depiction. However, it's incredibly important to consider that with the Walking Dead, a lot of changes were made when Frank Darabont was removed from running the show. All the reasons people have given here for Dale's death being justified are based on the later seasons, but fail to realize that the later seasons would have been done VERY differently if Frank Darabont were still writing. To write off Dale's character as too idealistic because the later seasons got very dark is a copout answer, because just like the other characters, Dale too would evolve as a while potentially keeping his humanity. In fact, Dale could give the final push that Rick needed after he despairs over Lori's death to get his shit together and lead the group. But these considerations will never be made because people won't actually try and understand how the showrunners changing pivotally changes the show, they'll just try to pull reasons out of the thin air of their subjective experience about why it was justified, as they always do.

Although he was a great actor in this show. I couldn't stand his character. Always butting into people's business, trying to be a father figure no one asked for, an unrealistic moral compass, thinking he knew better than everyone and thinking he knew everything. I was so glad he died.

Everyone thinks he was great here, however I hated it. This guy shot at them, he has 30 heavily armed men back in his group what’s to say he doesn’t bring them back? Also when Daryl was interrogating him, he talked about how there were 2 teenage girls that were r*ped by his group while the father was forced to watch. Then afterwards catches himself and says “but I didn’t touch them.” I don’t think he was innocent at all and it pissed me off seeing Dale try to reason when Randall was clearly a danger to the group

Dale was wrong about Randall, just like how wrong Tyreese was about Martin and Morgan was about the Wolves. The writers should've stopped writing characters like them, ffs, it's annoying, preachy, and repetitive.

Every single line of his hits so hard! And no one had an answer to any of his questions - not Rick, or Shane or Daryl or Glenn or Carol or Hershel! All they had was silence. And that was an answer all by itself. P.S. Stellar music to play in the background! It fit the scene perfectly and the editing was immaculate!

later on in season 8 after rick defeated negan, he convinced the saviors to join him by saying were living and that's dead and its coming for us, but if we stand together we can survive
