Wonderful video. Thanks so so much 😊
Thanks. I made the video several years ago. My Aunt Ann, who is featured in the video, just passed away in June. She was 100 years old.
I might know where I can find a EX / NT
Steve S Please send me contact information. I am interested in seeing what's out there. Email ricklaleman@gmail.com
Wonderful
Thank you
Have you got any information on Avery tractors and equipment I know that in the early 1950's Moline aquired Avery primarily to venture into the small tractor market.
No, we only have information on experimental tractors from the early 1940's. Sorry.

MM was the most comprehensive farm equipment manufacturer. They made combines, shellers, all variety of tillage equipment, stationary engines, and tractors. They invented the Jeep, the unitractor, the first factory cab tractors (1938). They were the leader in LP fueled tractors. In 1950 they were a larger farm equipment manufacturer than John Deere. Unfortunately after that date poor management replaced the visionary CEO who created the company from 3 others. It was eventually sold to White trucking and that company eventually phased out all MM labeled lines. The remants are now owned by AGCO.
MM was larger than John Deere in the very early years .. Allis Chalmers was Larger then Deere in the 1940's after inventing the All Crop Harvester .. @Rick Laleman
What was mm's claim to fame?
Great video and a beautiful unique tractor. Photos and records like those are very rare. Helpful friends too! I haven’t seen Jeff and Ron for many years. Tell them hello from Steve C. I’m concentrating on 8N Fords now.
Thanks. Will pass you words on to my brothers.
Felix was my Dads boss in Moline Ill. in the late 40's and 50's. My uncle Paul Seaholm was there too. This film brings tears to my eyes. Thanks. Chuck Barth Jr.
Thanks Chuck. My research on prototypes often includes positive mention of your Dad's name as field test engineer.
My father had a Z .i can remember it well
What a wonderful story! Are you related to the Laleman families in south western Minnesota? You should check out a TH-cam channel Squatch253. He has some experimental MMs.
The Minnesota Lalemans are distant relatives who immigrated at a different time from my family. We all have a common Belgian ancestor. I have been following Squatch253 as he restores the prototype 445.
I was brought up on Farmall and Case tractors. I have a Yanmar Diesel compact tractor now but would like to buy any brand of tractor and restore it. I am not particular to any brand. I like them all!
Check out Minneapolis Moline Fan Page on Facebook. There are tractors for sale as well as parts.
Thanks!
Whiteside County is Northeast not Northwest of the Moline plant location.
my grand father has a experimental 8n ford with a different clutch design and there was some casting changes for placements for serial numbers
That is cool. I am pleased to hear that other experimentals survived. I have a friend whose father was a Ford engineer. He was on the design team for the Select-o-matic automatic transmission. I wonder if any of those experimentals survived.
i hope they did to it is cool seeing peoples reaction to experimental tractors
Rick Laleman Hi Rick, I've got an odd MM military spec LPG tractor that no body has been able to identify and the tag has been removed. could you provide any insight if I could get some photos to you. I've exhausted all the guys on the Moline forum as well. Thanks Wiley
If you send the photos to me , I might be able to get you an answer. The MM collectors club board is meeting next week (I thought it was today). They have many experts who might be able to identify the machine. Also, you mentioned the Moline Forum, I don't know if this is the Yesterday's Tractor forum but here is the link for MM .forums.yesterdaystractors.com/viewforum.php?f=21
Rick Laleman Thanks Rick! Where do I send the photos to?
Had White not bought out Minneapolis Moline, Oliver, and Allis Chalmers, Ford, Case/International , and John Deere may very well would have been replaced as the big three..... Great video and phenomenal project. MM was such a fine piece of equipment.
I would like to thank all those involved reinventing this Piece of farming history from becoming extinct so that the young ones might see that real tractors were made in USA and not China.
There's nothing like the feel of a heavy piece of iron being effortlessly pulled along by those old power plants at an RPM which many consider to be idle speed now-a-days. Or when your implement causes your tractor to wheel spin and the governor barely tips the throttle to maintain the engine's RPM......
We really enjoyed when our RTU did that while pulling a 2 bottom plow through an old waterway. We had to wait while the JD and AC ahead of us pulled out, so we could finish the furrow.
My Grandfather, who worked with and on tractors for various farmers his whole life, always had a high opinion of Minneapolis Moline, Oliver, and Allis Chalmers. And it's obvious that those are the three brands that White bought so they could scrape the profits out of to keep their truck business afloat. Had they not done this, we could be in a more advanced stage of farm equipment today.
I agree. Fortunately we are preserving some of the old machines.
@@ricklaleman6552 i found the orginal NT tractor the new owner is on you tube profile name Kenny kizzle if you want to get a hold of him hopefully good luck of you getting it back
Hi again, In your video you said that you had been out to the old Seaholm farm. I'm wondering if the buildings are still there. As you came in the driveway there was a summer party house on the right and the main house was at the end of the "S" shaped drive, plus the cattle barn and corn crib and shed for tractors. The last time we were out there was1955, 4th of July. Regards, Chuck B.
Hi Rick, it is great to hear from you. this my EMail charlesjr1009@sbcglobal, also my pn. 806-622-1024. Would enjoy talking with. Regards, Chuck
Hi, enjoyed your video on the MM tractor. My uncle was Paul Seaholm, my dad was head engineer for R&D at Moline. Felix Laleman was my dad's boss while he was living in Moline then he moved to MPLS, MN. and retired in 1975 also died that same year at 62 yrs. We use to spend our summers at Paul's farm, sure miss those days.
Charles Barth Thanks for your kind comments. Jeff and I would really like to talk with you. We will be at a number of antique tractor shows this summer including the communities of Rantoul, Decatur (Farm Progress), Pontiac (Old Thresher Reunion), and Geneseo (Antiques Engine and Tractor Assn). We may attend some additional shows this summer. Jeff lives in Rock Falls, and I live in Bloomington. You can reach me at ricklaleman@gmail.com
thats my buddy right there!
Really enjoyed this!!! People like Michael keep us safe and free.
