Mothballing my 25 year old Briggs and Stratton 9hp generator so it lasts another 25 years.
I bought an emergency generator in 1999. I used it frequently when I worked for the movie studios. I always took good care of it and stayed up on maintenance. 25 years later, I'm retired and got hit by a hurricane. My old generator saved us. This video shows how I prepare it for long term storage and how to do general maintenance.

If this goes bad or gets clogged will it cause the fuel pump to over work itself causing it to wine a lot
so when we use this scanner there is vehicle we scanned and how do i clear the stored vehicle?
Yeah I replaced my dmtl pump and the check engine light went away but there was monitor still P1449 so I did a smoke test couldn't find the problem. I did some research and found out the ECU can be sensitive on some electrical components. So I replaced the generic dmtl pump with a bosh dmtl and drove it about 60 miles and the ECU cleared the p1449 code now it's ready to get smogged.
you do not need to add the plate. move the chimney to the front side.
So you mean to tell me you got it off without stripping it out?
@SawyerStephens-fn1wp it all went fine. Just remove the front wheel and you are golden.
thanks, this came in handy today since my excursion ate the belt
@@megu_weeb glad I helped!

@@CrazyOneToo good to see you!
Ive got 2 Generacs about that age. Still work great!
I love you thank you!!!
Nice work! Viking still supplies all these parts. We do them regularly. The repair guys just didn't know or didn't want to know. A trick to getting the doors off hinge, keeping the silver lock tab depressed in the first place, is placing a small wadded up paper towel or such, into the groove of the open door, compressing that silver tab to keep it flat down, into the door,(NOT locked into the notch, that will lock the door on) , then lift the door to squeeze the towel wad up against the oven frame just above the hinge pivot pocket, keeps the silver tab in and unlocked, then with the door squeezed up to an angle, you can pull the door up and off the hinges, just barely clearing the drip tray/control panel area as it slides up and off. Then you can deal with getting the hinges replaced or cleaned up and smooth.
Q difference between manual and automatic - you chose automatic. I ssume that is for replacing to exactly the same battery as previously in the car. If you bought a differnt brand battery *But still same type, ie still AGM) should you go the manual route and set the CCA and other parameters of the battery?
@fooBar55 I wasn't sure what it was asking at first, but the manual, automatic choice was simply asking about the transmission. I didn't know what it meant, so I opted for automatic to be cautious. A happy accident (I have an automatic transmission). If you replace your battery with the same type and capacity, you shouldn't need to do anything but reset it as new. If you change the type or capacity, you need to tell the system what it's working with. Thanks for watching and commenting.
Does the Cen-tech OBD2 from Horbor Freight also have the same function?
This was a lifesaver! Literally. ❤
Hi. Did you ever figure this out? I have the exact same annoyance.
@LyntisMoten hello. Yes, it turned out that it was an intermittent failure of the voltage regulator. The solution was to install a new alternator even though the old alternator never threw any warnings and passed a few tests. The voltage regulator is inside the alternator. Hope that helps. Good luck!

the index card idea was the best thing about this video. i have don 1 of these and have another to do , i took it all apart but i might try this method.
If somebody is taking a covid test when your sick, your an idiot. So what he is saying is we only have 15 idiots? Nah! I have never taken a test and never will. it always cracks me up when i here people say i tested positive, for a cold. Still to this day i hear people taking test and i have never understood why.
Thank you! I got a 1950 olds 76's hood open with your helpful video.
My x6 is doing the same thing and I've tried the same stuff. Did you end up changing the alternator
@adriangraham7468 yes. The problem was a failing voltage regulator on the side of the alternator. Replace the alternator. Thanks for watching!
Thanks for the quick video. Just picked up my X5 e70 from Gateway Tire after brake job. Pulled out, all dash warning lights still on. Went back, talked to Andy, the manager, who said they do brakes not computers. He doesn't have tools to do BMWs... Yep, a brain is definitely missing. Just Wow....Gateway Tire and Battery is worthless. Your video was 1st I clicked, thanks again for saving me some hassle, reset everything...very nice
Thanks for the video
Your video was no help. You’re a moron just like your wife said.
I removed the two bolts but the alternator won’t budge at all. I’ve seen some videos where a screwdriver is wedged between the alternator and the housing moving it slightly to the drivers side? Any other suggestions?
@mikejung24 a 2024 m4 would be a good solution. Just tracked one on Thursday. What a car.. back to the problem at hand, I seem to recall struggling with the tight fit and used a pry bar delicately to induce some cooperation. Good luck to you!

4:00 he isn't entirely wrong. The thing with only using his right hand is incase he does get shocked it doesn't go from one arm and across his heart to the other.
Just take rear tail lights off the get to the bumper bolts
Do you still have the bike? if so how has it held up? Do these bikes come with an odometer from the factory? There is one for sale near me that has one not sure if the owner added it or not but it's very low mileage.
Just a note for anyone doing this. You absolutely do NOT need to remove the crank pulley/balancer. Remove the tensioner and rotate the pulley to where the c shaped cut out is lined up with the lower pump bolt. Break that bolt loose and they will almost always spin out easily by hand. in addition. ALL the other water pump bolts are easily accessible with extensions... Not sure why you couldn't access your last bolt ... Thanks for making this video
Hello , was it enough to just add the coolant and start it? no vacuum circuit pressurization? I changed the thermostat now and I have to top up the fluid
@Tony-oz7jf as I recall, I filled it, then warmed it up (idle), cycled the heater off and on while sealed and pressurized, then let it cool off and checked the level. It took a couple of efforts, and then all seemed good and stable.
Hey bud any update? Is the charging issue gone now?
@AMZGLOBALREVIEWS yes, the charging issue has been solved. Now the coolant transfer pipe has started leaking. I'll fix that soon.
@@OGGarrettsGarage glad you solved it! was it the ibs or the alternator or what? I got the same issue man.
@AMZGLOBALREVIEWS it was a slowly dieing voltage regulator on the alternator.
Hello. How is the repair holding out?
@carguy4580 so far, so good. Daily driving the 650i. My X5 has started leaking from the transfer pipe though, so I'll be doing the job again on that car soon. Going to see if I can do it much faster (now that I'm an experienced amateur). Thanks for commenting! Be sure to order the good seals if you are doing this yourself. The Chinese seals that come with the kit are trash.
Straight Eight Terraplane ? 1933? (one of the first "muscle cars" or maybe one of the early 85 horsepower Ford V8 models? (around 1933)
Nice video, explanation step by step. Thanks 😎👍👍
I know this post is a little older, but I was stranded a week ago with the idiot light scenario, a dead dash, air turning off while driving then engine dying on the freeway while doing 70. It started in limp mode without computer controlled transmission, made it to an off ramp and locked it up. Came back with a truck and trailer to find the window rolled down and the car unlocked (in was 115°). Battery was now dead and transmission couldn’t be shifted to neutral. Dragged it on the trailer. Charged it with an AGM charger which showed the battery was fine and healthy. However, the charging voltage is now 17.3 vdc! Assuming the voltage regulator was shot, so replacing the alternator. Hopefully I’m on the right path, but my scanner says nothing is testable, like it cannot access the ecu…
@nvboatguy it took me 3 years of screwing around with my x5 before I finally replaced the alternator / voltage regulator even though there was never any scanner or dashboard warning indicating charging problems. It fixed the problem. There is a way to put it into neutral with everything dead. On mine it's under the driver side cup holder. Pop out a cover and you can reach in using a plastic tool that's with the jack stuff, then turn it to get neutral (be sure you're ready because she's gonna roll away). Good luck!
@@OGGarrettsGarage Thanks! I fired up the car after the battery tested ‘normal and fully charged’, thinking that maybe a computer which controlled alternator output might adjust the regulator to charge at a normal voltage. Nope! I guess that’s not how it’s supposed to work, and that maybe the alternator/with built-in regulator is a stand-alone unit that self adjusts- but with BMW, you never know what they come up with to control this stuff. Going to verify this is a Bosch alternator, and get one coming. This whole episode was out of the blue, with no previous issues…!!

I have 2012 650i bmw I wanna change My carbon canister and leake detection pump do I need to program it after or no?
@ruelbautista9966 I have had only older bmws. On my older stuff, there was no need for scanner use after evap system repairs other than clearing the fault codes. Good luck!
I hate this car and I’ll be glad to get rid of it this in November. I’m so done replacing shit on this car
Mine gave codes for high pressure fuel pump, low pressure fuel pump, 4x4 malfunction, ABS malfunctioning, light bulbs, fuel injectors. I lost my mind changing parts, until I just happened to look at the alternator and noticed that one of the wires was completely corroded off because of the stupid coolant hoses hanging over the top of the alternator and dripping hot coolant on the connector. I changed the hoses and clamps, and got a new connector. Problem solved and the car ran like a beast, my idle also became smooth as butter.
@Gboogie22 it turned out that mine was all caused by a slowly dying voltage regulator. I put in a new alternator/ regulator and it's all better now. It is crazy how the car will start giving all variety of warnings when it's all caused by the low voltage. Thanks for commenting!
Thank you sir for helping me fix my rv door Handle . The center oval part that the inside door Handel interacts with was verry worn out and I was missing a spring, took the little snap ring out flipped that over the other way greased everything up and took apart a pen for the missing spring. Door works much better now. For some reason the inside handle is still saggy when the door is shut but at least it shuts correctly every time now!
I think the smoke outlet should br only at the back. The logic is: your inteke air is in the front, it will tend to rise up and acape to the chamney. If you force the smoke to scape through the rear you make the unburt wood gas enter in contact with your secundairy air that is coming from roles all the way to the back. This modification should be easy just needing to close the front gap btween your metal sheet and the barrel. With over a year of experience you shoud be able to tell if what i say makes sense.
I wanted to know the size of the socket head bolt, no one ever seems to mention what size it is in any of their videos!!
This finally fixed my 650i. Well worth the effort. Let's Go!
You have problem crankshaft pulley
It actually turned out to be a slowly dying voltage regulator. I replaced the alternator, and it's finally fixed. Thanks for commenting!

Is it a v8? Those are known to smoke if the valve stem seals go bad. It's a complex repair if that's the issue.
