Prijon Yukon Expedition - Restoring a 30 year old kayak
มุมมอง 3813 หลายเดือนก่อน
Picked up a Prijon Yukon Expedition that was manufactured in 1994/95 and needed a lot of TLC and restoration. As a sit-on-top kayak fisherman, this is the first sit-inside kayak I have owned and only the 2nd that I have paddled. It paddles unlike anything I've experienced. In the first river run, I got a small glimpse of its capabilities, though my skills are nowhere near the level needed to ha...

you packed the Jetboil wrong. otherwise a good review. I'll still take the jetboil.
Twenty years ago that river was an unnatural aqua blue color from all the aluminum in the water, flushed out of the old coal mines. Now the river produces TH-cam videos about fishing and boating. Miracles happen
Acid mine drainage
Thirty years ago there was no sign of life in that river, now you're catching 10" smallies... Great to see.
Yes! No big ones, but plenty of little smallies in there!
Looks like a great experience. Thanks for sharing. Question why does it look like you are paddling up river?
nice review bro!!!
Appreciate it!
Appreciate it!
Appreciate it!
With the gauge at 2 feet, were you scraping bottom a lot?
I definitely scraped some but didn't need to get out and drag the boat at all. The biggest hazard was avoiding rocks that otherwise would have been submerged.
Cheers bro I’m very close to frenchville ramp
Nice! I'm from Virginia, but this stretch was on my list to paddle. It's beautiful!
Do you recall what the river gauge was in Karthaus or can you tell me the date you went and I can look it up. Thanks
The Karthaus gauge was 2.29ft when we started. It was low and we hit some rocks, but we were able to float all the way through without any dragging though.
Great video! I am hoping to do part of that river this September when the Elk are in rut. Looks very pretty out there.
Thanks! It is a very pretty stretch of river.
Nicely done Obee! A seaworthy craft if I’ve ever seen one. PS: Do you name kayaks? My vote is Rudderly Ridiculous.
Thanks! I do name my kayaks but haven't settled on a name for this one yet. Haha I'll keep that one in consideration
Nice job bro, looks great 🤙🌊
Thanks man!
What a cool trip, Eric! Gorgeous scenery! Loved the narration, too!! 😂👍💯
Thanks Dan! Yes this is a very pretty river up in central PA where my brother lives. We've been wanting to do a trip there for a while and finally got it done
@@obeewanderlow-key4916 I can see why it's been on your list! 💯
Awesome trip bro. I see that river has a lot of fish, but no Big fish in it heehe😆. Enjoyed it Eric 🤙
Ha! You're right, we caught lots but no big ones. Thanks Chris!
I’m glad to see the smallmouth are coming back. Not long ago the river was dead due to the acid mine drainage was so bad it knocked out the bottom of the river’s food chain. Insects, crustaceans and amphibians could not survive. I was on a large organized paddling sojurn from Shawville to Lock Haven just twenty years ago. We didn’t se one bug, crawfish, frog or fish of any kind except at the mouth of Kettle Creek. Then about 10 tears ago we started to see more evidence the eco system was on the mend. This is very good news.
@@butchmiller3970 yes! We did not catch any BIG smallmouth, but we did catch good numbers.
Which section of the Staunton is this? We kayak camped from Altavista to Long Island back in January.
Nice! I saw the River Paddlers videos of that trip. This section I was fishing was from a private access about 7 miles up river from Long Island and floated down to Long Island.
I need you to save so fish for the rest of us lol. very nice Eric!!!
Lol ok I'll try, thanks Chris!
Dang! That's a lot of tight lines!! Definitely should have brought a net!! 😅 Great video, Eric!! 👍
Thanks Dan! I remembered my net for my next trip 😂
@@obeewanderlow-key4916 Lol!! Good deal!! 🤣🤣
What a great trip and beautiful scenery!! And some fun rapids! Great video, Eric!! 👍
Thanks Dan!
Loved the drone footage, Just Beautiful. Enjoyed it man 🤙😀
Thanks Chris!
Nice! Trying to plan a kayak trip. Where did you camp on this route?
Man this makes me miss the warmer weather. Fish that river from spring to fall. Great channel man
Thanks! I also am missing warm weather and being on the river. More videos will be coming soon!
What area did you fish? Long Island?
Yes, Long Island and stretch about 5 miles up river of Long Island.
wondered about the james. It looks like it flows decent.. good video
Thanks! Yes the James has good flow for the most part. Right now, the level is super low, so there are some flat sections with almost no flow. But I can still average 3 miles/hour over the course of a day.
Man, what some beautiful spots. I enjoyed the video. It got me excited for my overnight trip tomorrow.
That's great! What river will you be on?
@obeewanderlow-key4916 just gonna be a quick overnight trip on Cotaco Creek. It's public land that runs off the TN River. It's definitely a neat place to just get away fast, cool wildlife, and all flat water you can handle lol. I'm planning on a few bigger trips soon, it's still been kinda hot.
I liked the dam video, and your dam narration. Some really neat looking rock formations around there too. Solid video as always, keep up the good work Obee.
Going Saturday! 10/7
Another great trip on a beautiful river with some run rapids. Hatch cover sticker game is STRONG! 🙂 Good one, Eric!!
Thanks! I have some great stickers 😁 Need to add more to the collection. I was on the James River this weekend and another paddler admired the Alabama sticker!
@@obeewanderlow-key4916 Sweet! ☺
Nice trip, how many miles you get in?
Thanks! This was a quick 10.93 mile run on a Sunday afternoon
Wow, what a great video! I actually dozed off towards the end, but that's a good thing. I go so relaxed watching it...just like I was on the water. Great tunes, fantastic scenery- excellent work, Eric!!
Oh, and it was also after 11pm when I started watching...lol!! 😅
@@SouthernPaddler lol! This video was a little different. There is very little footage of the Staunton River in my area, so I wanted to show as much of the river as possible, hence the 10X speed footage showing most of the river and not just the "highlights". Most people aren't going to watch this type of video all the way through, but again, I wanted to create footage showing most of the river as a resource for anyone interested in it.
Loved it! ❤
What a beautiful River and a great video! This was fantastic!! 👏👏
Thanks! If you're ever paddling in central Virginia, the upper James River is a very scenic 64 mile trail.
Enjoyed the video Eric and was awesome to meet you. Looking forward to watching more of your videos. Hope to paddle again soon 🤙😎
This is awesome, Eric! Great video (and tunes). I can't believe I missed the cows...lol! Excellent work! 💯👍👏
Thanks! Looking forward to seeing your video when it comes out!
@obeewanderlow-key4916 Thanks- It will hopefully be Tuesday of next week.
Good job
Nothing like river fishing for smallies! Thanks for sharing!!
Awesome video!! Been dieing to do that float. Where did you camp at on the first night.
I've flown over the Golden Gate Bridge on my way to Hawaii, and I've never seen anything so orange or huge from a plane in my life. It was more awesome than looking down into the Grand Canyon 🫡
Rowdy!!!
Kinda creepy, .. a cop in the middle on nowhere..just creepy
Lol not a cop, just an outdoors enthusiast
@@obeewanderlow-key4916 his car is right there and he's in uniform..
@@danamillsap8902 That car is a black Subaru Crosstrek and the "uniform" is just a black puffy jacket lol.
Row row row your kayak, gentle down the river.
