Its a shame things were so delayed and condensed but... to be honest it is significantly better than any other adaptation we've gotten thus far. It would have benefitted a lot from an extra episode or two in order to give the story a bit more room to breathe. For the most part though I was actually impressed with the pacing. uzumaki is made up of so many little stories and Junji Ito has his own style of storytelling (as opposed to the traditional greek structure most media uses) which makes it much, much harder to translate it to film. It really needed 1 or 2 more episodes to be outstanding. Either that or if each arc got its own little 4-8 minute short that could be watched sequentially. Each short could be a little longer and it would give the whole show more room to breathe. Though its overall runtime would be quite a bit higher. They clearly had the most time to work on the first episode with the ones after being paced much, much faster. From reports it sounds like someone with a lot of power really screwed over episode 2 and onward. However, even with the huge drop in animation quality and the less smooth pacing I do think it succeeded in being quite good. It just wasn't what was promised. I'm not mad at the anime or the animators for delivering the product they did. I'm mad at the executive or higher up or whoever it was who doomed the project. The wasted potential makes me sad. I think it could have truly been a masterpiece if not for the interference. Hell, I would have happily waited another year or two if it meant getting that masterpiece. You can't rush perfection.

I honestly don't really care about the animation that much, if it has a good story/plot I don't mind the animation too much, hell I'll probably make me have a good chuckle if I notice some really bad animation mistakes.

Which is better: The Junji Ito Collection or "Junji Ito Maniac: Japanese Tales of the Macabre" (the Netflix series)? I've only seen the latter (and both adaptations of Uzumaki).

I agree with your favorite episode order. My first Junji Ito manga was 'Gyo' and its adaptation is atrocious, so I give Uzumaki points for getting a lot of things right. I give this adaptation a good 8/10. For cramming so many chapters into a single episode, they did OK. I was surprised by that. They only fumbled in Shuichi's mother's death scene: she was cremated, and in the anime, it had already been established in episode 2 that the dead were being buried instead. The coolest thing was that they got Junji Ito himself to do the voice of the typhoon. That was awesome!

I think mascot horror has the potential to be scary. But they lose that fear factor as the characters are oversaturated/ overused. Another issue is that most Mascot horror is that they tend to market it towards kids. Which applies to both of your examples, I mean they both sell children's merch

I'm going to argue Bendy should be some kinda of honorable mention not so much for being a mascot horror but for doing something very different with the idea of mascot horror cause let's be real, the formula has gotten a bit stagnate

I'd almost say the jokes and memes from that one Junji story are almost more impressive than the story itself. Have you seen the one of Junji in the Barbie box and it says 'This is my box! It was made for me!' masterpiece

To me, mascot horrors are scary. But the problem with them is that they ensure it's not scary enough for kids to want more of them. And usually, they mix up fear with surprise. You can make it horror without jump scares. And there are many horror that scares me without (constantly) startling me.

Now, I know this may be a little different form what you said, but I think adding Lovecraft elements in a mascot horror can show that it can be horror if it wants to. Like maybe have some incomprehensible entity infiltrate a children’s establishment undetected by the executives and staff. Maybe it wants to use the company and its brand to grow itself or its influence on mortals. You don’t have to agree with me, but hey, something like this could help innovate new ideas in horror games in general.

I think "the big 3" often is time relevant in a lot of industries/communities. Kpop had a "big 3" era where 3 major companies (SM, JYP, and YG) were foundational, had guaranteed successful groups, and set the trends for the industry basically. I think the problem is people don't understand the time relevance after the era has passed. When a 4th major company came onto the scene fans had a hard time explaining why "the big 4" wouldn't work. The era and therefore the context had changed. I think the same happens to generations. Like generations are decided by events/characteristics but you'll always find people who want to make it about a set amount of time instead.

The big 10 is too long? yeah sure, tell that to any kid from the 2000/2010's back in my day we had like 18 favourite shows at the same time, and they only lasted for like 6 months until something new got popular. I can probably give a list of more than 13 "cartoons" from the top of my head at any moment and if I do memory that grows to 30+

You’re way off on the rap take. Mainly because you’re young and on top of that, white. It’s more so a cultural thing that was started within the core audience of these artists before they got as big as they are. They were considered the big 3 when around 2014 because they were the 3 biggest artists in the genre with both lyrical ability and mainstream appeal. They outsold everyone by far while still maintaining the lyrical integrity in their raps. Drake lost that integrity with time and just started biting from other new trends to popularize them for a summer it two then go on to the next. They are undoubtedly the big 3 for a good reason.
