Staff stance works nice as you unleash a full heavy on him afterwards

There are rocks you can stand on to avoid that attack. Boss can destroy them if he’s near it

you have to get thor's armor first to get the hammer and for the armor you have to defeat The three Daughters of Lerion who are located in England. Be ready for a tough fight they are mini bosses and are quite hard. You get three daggers and three armor set from them, the daggers will get you thor's helmet at a hidden location. And last but not least you have to defeat all templar members which get you the thor's cloak from haytham if you return every last medal to him.Than you can get mjolnir after collecting all the armor. It's end game item you can only get it after completing the game.
