I’m so sorry that the fair was a disappointment. I’m sure everyone would have loved to see your quilt. Hope you get some answers when you go to collect it. Deb x 🤗
All these county fairs are a bunch of clicks. Same ole people judging
Sorry the fair was such a disappointment :( Just wanted to let you know, I got so inspired by your flag quit, and I decided to make one for my BIL's birthday (turning 60 soon-ish) I had a bunch of 5 inch squares so using your numbers I realized it would be "smaller" that I like so I dug through my bins and found some light-blue with white clouds fabric, so I'm adding a 2 row "border" around the flag and the size with be better. Did half the cutting already, ordered some spring action snips, got some cute flannel for $2.99 a yard at Joann's, and I can't wait to get started. I have never made a rag quilt before, so this is new to me, but yours are so gorgeous that I am having a go at it too! If it works out well, I'll make a Danish flag next :)
Sounds like the fair committee needs feedback from the makers that submitted items. So disgusting that they didn’t display them but even worse that they left yours in the bag. I’d raise a ruckus. 🤷♀
I think it's disgusting that they did not display your quilt and the others properly. Sounds like a poorly run and a fixed competition! I love that flag rag quilt!
LOVE the new fabrics! The jellyfish are fabulous, but I love the blue in with the pumpkins, and the aquas too. Yes, they are called sandwiches. 😂 You do beautiful quilts sweetheart. 💜
Great job organizing! I love those boxes too. I laughed at your nod to me and my stash. It’s big, but all my quilting buddies have so much more than me. 😂. I can’t wait to bring you this machine. I think you’ll love it. Keep these wonderful videos coming!! 💜
I had that pink camo! I used it as lining for bags.
QUESTION: is the top fabric flannel or cotton? This is a great quilt. Thanks. 🌺
Top is cotton.. But you could totally do flannel for both sides!
Weird! I like the ones you didn’t want.
I was just wondering, do your quilts always have the same backing fabric all over? Or do you ever use different fabrics for the backing of a quilt? Deb x 🤗 (also from England!)
I do a solid color for the backs on all my quilts. It's usually flannel unless someone requests a quilting cotton.
@@Hiddenhilltophomestead Thank you for answering. 😊
Hi from England 🏴 I’m just trying to get back into quilting after 20 something years……life, elderly parents, illness and some really stressful times got in the way…..and you made me smile because I’ve just done the same thing! All that really old fabric that I’m never going to use! 😂 I gave a ton of stuff to my teacher daughter for her school and they were so excited to have a stash for Nativity costumes, etc. Well done with your organising and I’m looking forward to seeing how much of your stash you now use. 😊
What color thread did you use did you use red white and blue and did you change bobbin threads
I matched the top thread to the front colors (red, white, and blue) and then cream for the bottom bobbin. I used the same bobbin color for the whole quilt.
@@Hiddenhilltophomestead Thank you!
You’re wearing out your poor machine lol
Remember to remove the dryer lint often while drying this beautiful American Flag Rag Quilt!!!
Looks great. New idea for me to try quilting block by block like that
Love the haul! I think the fish fabric is my favourite. Can’t wait to see what fabrics you put with those bags. Deb x 🤗
Brilliant, the BEST rag quilt tutorial I've ever seen, & I've seen many many!!! I can't wait to make this, I think I i have enough fabric, except for the batting... Thanks so much!!!
I love it!
What a nice video, great commentary
New subscriber..love your quilt. Im going to nake a few for ny patriotic friends. You did a exceptional job explaining thank you for your creation and beautiful work ❤
That is really cute! I will have to try this with the Danish flag (Dannebrog) Will need only red and white :)
I love your videos. Going to have try my hand at rag quilting. So beautiful
Can you use cotton fabric? I’d like to sew up my long term stash quickly
yep you could do cotton on the front and back!
Amazing
Love your quilt; your little fur baby looks like my little girl that I lost last year. Beautiful little quilt tester who 100% approve of the comfy quilt.
so sorry for your loss
They all look fantastic!
Excellent tutorial, new subscriber. You did such a clear and concise explanation I know that I will be making this quilt. I really enjoyed listening and watching this video , thank you!!
Love this quilt!!! That will be my next quilt project.
Beautiful!! You might try putting flannel in the middle. You cut them the same size as your top square. You could use another cotton layer on the back. It will give you a two-sided quilt. Using the flannel in the middle gives you a fluffier rag on top. It also gives you more color choices. Great job
That's a good idea. Then add a patriotic backing.
Love your quilt. Now to make myself one
I can not wait to make one of these!!!
Absolutely beautiful! ❤
I live in the south and we don’t put batting in ours with the flannel. It’s plenty warm enough for us.
Agree. I'm hot natured. Can't do batting
Brilliant and beautiful! Fantastic tutorial as well. You're a natural teacher!
Is the fabric -cotton on top layer and flannel on the bottom layer ?
@@pattispencer8503 yep! Cotton top, cotton batting in the middle and cotton flannel on the bottom.
@@Hiddenhilltophomestead Thanks ! Love this quilt. I’ve only used flannel and just recently replaced the batting with flannel. But I’m going to try using cotton fabric on the top layer next. Thanks again!
❤ I am new to your channel. And yes! would love to see more of your videos! 🙂 Thank you for sharing.
What type of fabric are you using? Some look like cotton, but some like the blue backing for the fishing quilt did not look like cotton.
I usually do cotton flannel on the back. That pink quilt was a special order and they wanted regular cotton on the back.
Beautiful. I'm curious why you don't make 6 inch wide cuts of the backing and then subcut into 6 inch squares?
I only have a 6" square but submitting is definitely a time saver!
Nice work.
Chloe is so beautiful. She looks very soft. Sweet kitty.❤😊
Forgot to ask- I’ve seen other rag rug videos and they made the wadding and backing a bit bigger than the front, but I think you cut them all the same? Does that mean all 3 layers show in the seam bit? It would be so much easier to do it your way when I have a go! Deb x 🤗
I do 6" squares for the front and back and then 5" in the middle. I use a half inch seam allowance when I make the rows so the only parts you'll see on the front of the blanket is the front and back material.
@@Hiddenhilltophomestead Brilliant, thank you so much for that information. Just realised I should have said that the front and back were bigger, not the wadding! 🫢 Deb x
Beautiful blanket at the start! Can’t wait to see the one you’re working on now! Deb x 🤗
Do you use flannel for the front and back? I want to try this.
I’m using flannel on the back and then just quilting cotton on the front with a cotton batting in the middle.
That's a nice blanket
Thank you! I have wanted to make a quilt but have been intimidated by needing large pieces for the back. This will allow me to make my first quilt without worrying about that!
Why don’t you snip the seams closer together rather than it looks like 1” apart......when I make my rag quilts I snip each a 1/4” from each other and when washed it rags sew soooo nice....I love flannel rag quilts 😇🌻
I’m a new subscriber too, and also from England! I’m fascinated by these rag quilts. I love any quilt-as-you-go ideas, but think this might be my favourite. Thank you! Deb x 🤗
Thank you! I love how simple but beautiful they are. They make for a fun project.
I’m so proud of you and all your works. Crafts, cooking, growing plants, taking care of animals (including my son)😂. You are so talented and I’m proud to call you daughter-in-law. 💜
What a lovely mother-in-law! 🥰
I’m a new subscriber, from England, and I love the look of those rag quilts. Thank you for sharing. ❤
Thank you so much!
I LOVE that mushroom fabric !!
It's sooooo pretty!
