    I do remember a lot of false friends and cognates in English and other languages!! But the English homophones are so amazing, too! Like, for example, to see is to look at and the sea is an ocean!! And here means in this place and hear means to listen to.

    • @frenchfluency

      oh yes! French has a ton of homophones too. Maybe I should make a video about them 🤔

    In French people usually address me as Madame. I am a nonbinary person who does not care what pronouns people use as long as they are polite. In English we have the pronouns They/Them. That is fine. If a person is not sure saying something like "Can I help you folks" if they are part if a cople or group entering a shop. If they are by themselves say "What can I get you friend?" Also works. The best thing is, look at the nametag of the person if they have one and just call them by that name. "Thank You George,please come by again" is much better than searching for a genral pronoun.

    • @frenchfluency
      @frenchfluency หลายเดือนก่อน

      These are great tips! Thank you so much for sharing them. In French we don't really have an equivalent to the neutral pronoun they in the singular (or in the plural either). we have "iel" but it's too new and too few people use it.

    Thank you for the video! Can you explain why in Grés "s" is not pronounced. It also has accent grave...no?

    • @frenchfluency
      @frenchfluency 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Final S is silent as a general rule. Hermès is an exception. I wasn't clear in the original video, as I omitted to mention that Hermès is a borrowed word, which is why the French pronunciation is similar-ish to the original greek pronunciation. The accent grave just helps us a bit to know how it's pronounced but it doesn't make this a general rule for all words.

  • @pollyraider5695
    @pollyraider5695 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

    But why S is not silent? I saw some explanation that it’s also because of accent grave on e, but rules say that it doesn’t impact anything except the e sound itself, so I’m confused

    • @frenchfluency
      @frenchfluency 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      You are correct, the accent on the e has no impact on the pronunciation of the S, and the final S *should* be silent, as per the French general rule. This word is an exception because it is borrowed from Greek. Often, borrowed words will be pronounced in a way that is similar to their pronunciation in the original language, even if it breaks some French rules. We find a similar situation with words borrowed from latin such as processus, humérus, etc. in all latin-borrowed words ending with -us, the s is also pronounced.

    I was surprised to find that my twin self was a man, younger than myself as I am now. He was in a library in an old house, writing with a fountain pen at an antique style desk. When I asked him how he had learned French he said it was his mother language, that he was born French. When I merged with him, he continued writing, but I could not see what he wrote, although I assumed it was in French. I'm not sure how that will help me learn the language, because for him it was natural and therefore he couldn't give me any information or tips! 😆

    • @frenchfluency
      @frenchfluency 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      That is so interesting! It's the first time I hear of someone whose twin self doesn't look like them. It appears that you have jumped to a different time line - maybe a past life of yours? I would recommend repeating the meditation, and placing your intention to go to an alternate universe with a slightly older version of yourself, who has learned French successfully as an adult. Can you try this and let me know how it works out?

  • @100nortonfan7
    @100nortonfan7 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

    French is a very affected language. Nauseatingly so. I say so, because I was exposed at a very early age to this language spoken at home. Spanish and English were, as well. I opted for the latter as French sickened me with the overbearing nasal sounds. I can understand, read and write the language but, speaking it, not so much! I realize many people would want to learn the language, for their own reasons. That's fine with me.

    Regarding my own past chronic "panxiety," one major clearing of the storm clouds took place while working with a Zen teacher (who was also a grief therapist) who at one point became still, leaned in and met my furtive gaze with what seemed like a revelation to her, "Oh, I see! You CAN'T be present...It's too terrifying!" Tears silently streamed down my face as I felt resonance for the first time...I was finally being seen, and feeling "well-met." The ensuing release, although brief, was enough of a reset that something within hit the pause on suicide planning (although it would later resurface, almost fatally).

    Translation of what Macron said: The question was: "For how long will you trust Ms Borne, the new Prime minister?" His answer: “She has my trust to lead this governmental team, and what I asked her, on the basis of what I just said to you, and also the peak of our priorities, I believe we will get back to that during our conversation, to build a legislative program and a government program, in connection with the president of the House and the president of the Senate, whom I saw yesterday, to have, at the same time, less laws, shorter, clearer laws, to, also change things for our compatriots, in a more tangible manner, not everything goes through the law.” I know this doesn’t sound right, but I promise you it is correct, I translated it myself and checked the translation three times 😂 PS: in the end he kept her less than 2 years. We just got a new prime minister. 🙏 Thanks @SgtMclupus for suggesting I add the translation. 🙏 Merci @lespritcritique d’avoir trouvé ce clip et compté les relatives pour nous!
