I’m 72 years old and I was raised in the Uptown Housing Projects on St. Thomas and we eventually moved to Gentilly off of Franklin Avenue and Robert E. Lee Blvd. I joined the Marine Corps in 1970 and I served for 30 years. I didn’t have a lot of chances to get back home. I am watching this video and others about the city and I am homesick. I was heartbroken when I saw what Katrina did. My health doesn’t allow for me to travel but I still crave hearing the music, and wanting to eat the food that you can only get in New Orleans. A fried oyster po’boy would down real good with an ice cold Barq’s root beer. Thanks for bringing back the memories.

I was there as a 6yr old.

They do a good job of keeping the creole culture going ..was just there..Bourbon,Royal,Canal st.

Latter part was filmed in Memphis, Tennessee.

I recognized everything in the video having lived in Palm Springs for about the first 20 years of my life (1969-1987). Seeing Bob Hope´s home on the hillside made me remember when it burned down during construction. We had a clear view of it from where we lived.

Crawfish was like 50 cents a pound, now we have folks who aren’t even natives of our city taxing the locals for something we have been doing for centuries. I still buy them live and boil myself, I refuse to support these people.

How many of us, would go back THERE, to stay, in about TWO SECONDS ?!?

The station was located on the corner of Buckingham St and Hoag St. The station was Szymanski & Sons consisting of my Dzia dzia, my dad and uncles.

Look how clean and nice it is? Now dirty disgusting crime filled homeless infested corrupt city politicians the city has become.

So glad to see the Kramer Brother's Calliope, built by my grandfather and great uncle. It still participates in parades today.

1970's were a awesome time. So sad how long it been, all that has been lost that was wonderful

The part showing Canal St movie theaters is around 67 or 68, because the Tudor and Globe theaters were torn down to make a parking lot run by Alright Auto Park was based in Houston now owned by Korea. Sorry don't know which one north or south.

I'd be willing to put money on that the white and brown Country Squire that passes the film maker on the right when they are going by the Sunair Drive-In and Market Basket in Cat City is being driven by one of my relatives. Most of my family lived in the cove at that time and we had a Country Squire just like that, I spent a lot of time riding in those back fold up seats as a kid and saw a lot of movies at that drive-in.

Ps before moving there in 75.... I saw Uncle Don's!! Used to go in there alot when I was a kid. We used to shop at that Vons also at the Smoke Tree Shopping Center on Sunrise. Loved escaping to the Tramway for the day after I learned how to drive.... The good old days before PS got to crowded...
