Want to know what some random guy has been reading lately? Cool!
I read books, I tell you about them. I like all types of speculative and genre fiction. I like to buy books, and look at them. I smell them too. Come on in and witness some wonders. I make some audiobooks as well.

Started to have a look at your previous video's now... great Scorpius shirt you're wearing there! FarScape is possibly my favourite show of all-time! Of the Man-Kzin Wars I only ever read the Best Of collection which had at least one Dean Ing story in it as well... possibly some more, don't remember too well. Do love the universe Larry Niven has build there, so might hunt down Cathouse myself. If you like cats in stories btw, I can recommend Robert Heinlein's "The Door Into Summer"... which has a prominent cat in it that holds his owner responsible for the weather outside and is accusatory towards his owner if it rains or snows outside. Fun story and there's a Japanese film based on that novel... not sure if it's still on Netflix but it is worth checking out.
Farscape is amazing! Yeah I found out after buying it that's it's a part of a whole world with multiple authors. I just thought the cover was cool. That cat story sounds great, I'll definitely look it up!
@@BadTasteBooks the story is basically about cryogenic freezing and waking up in the future, but the cat was a really memorable character in it 🙂
With all the sniffing and the door handle behind you I feel like I'm sitting in a bathroom with you at a party while you zoot out about a space alien book you once saw 15 years ago. The Kung Fu and the Hang Ten are gold. And you found more obscure occult detective. YOU'RE KILLING ME! I would totally cover the new york 2025 book on EEBS. I feel like it would be so much fun to hangout in person but if we went to the bookstore together we'd have some issues cause we like pretty much the exact same thing. ha! You can of course have all the kids books though.
I love that. These are the vibes I want to bring. Haha, it's gonna happen someday, man! But yeah, it may just be a whoever finds it first situation, Ha!
Love 'The Book Graveyard' shirt! Yes, 'To Your Scattered Bodies Go', excited to have you on the channel. A Malzberg for less than $1 is a great deal, since his passing his books have become a bit more expensive and harder to find. The Ace L. Ron Hubbard is awesome. Hard to be a God by the Strugatsky's for $1.50 is insane, that is a very collectible book. That book store has some really good deals for paperbacks.
I'm excited as well! I thought I was getting good deals on those. I'm not as much of an expert as you, but when I see big names like those I feel like I've found something special. Especially the Sturgatsky book. The store is McKays books. There's a few locations in the southeast if you ever find yourself around here.
Happy belated birthday, looks like you have a lot of cool reads to look forward to! I have read "To Your Scattered Bodies Go" by Philip Jose Farmer and I think you and Ira are going to enjoy that one. Also read the Hyperion series which I think is great. But most of the titles you've shown I haven't heard of, that time travel series to the medieval times of an alien named "Scorpio" sounds great... there were also some other titles in there that looked interesting and that I've marked on GoodReads to perhaps start looking for some time when I'm out of ideas what to read next!
Thanks, and I'm glad to hear that about the PJF book. I have heard mixed reviews. I'm pleased that I could show off some new discoveries for you. Thanks for watching! Ps. Rush is the best band ever. Fly by Night kicks ass.
@@BadTasteBooks love to hear what you and Ira will say about it, in your collab video. Also agree on Rush, especially 70s Rush. Although lately the British band Mostly Autumn might give them a run for fav band. They happened to have dropped by in the Netherlands (where I live) twice on their tour in the past year.. in March and later on in December, so I've seen them twice in one calendar year and have been obsessed with their music as of late.
I haven't listened to them. I'll look them up, thanks!
@ can't go wrong with the album "Passengers" (Heather Findlay era) or "White Rainbow" (Olivia Sparnenn era) if you do 🙂🎸
First, do not stop this video and go to literally books right now. This video is full of incredible books (also Virgil’s voice is way less soothing in person and his channel is completely devoid of color changing medieval aliens so how nice can he really be?). Second the Scorpio series (who let them name it that?) looks crazy and fun. To Your Scattered Bodies Go is a fantastic book. If the blurb for K9 Corps The Last Resort isn’t, “Dog and Dino in an epic battle to determine who will be man’s best friend?” then someone should be fired (even 30+ years later). And Operation Hang Ten has my interest. 🏄 So many weird and wonderful books. Such an awesome haul. Happy birthday!
Oh and Dead center Chains looks fun and I love Lone Wolf!
I'm glad you like To Your Scattered Bodies Go. I have heard some mixed reviews of Philip Jose Farmer. Happy you found the haul entertaining, I love finding the weirdest books I can, haha.
@@BadTasteBooksI heard of some of Farmer’s writing is a bit too interested in being shocking. But that one was a good book. I think you’ll enjoy it.
Hey Brian, I just recently found your TH-cam channel. I love your content, you are doing a great job 👏🤝 I hope all is well for you 🎉
Hey, thanks so much! Glad you're here, hope to see you in the comments section in the future!
@ absolutely!
How many books do you own? I see all those books behind you
@bibliomania158 ha! I haven't counted. My wife would say "too many". And she is probably right
@ that’s exactly what my wife would say too! 🤣 I have a good collection of books that I’ve gathered over the past 5 or so years.
Happy Birthday! Omg I have that Scorpio book! I haven’t read it yet, but for whatever reason I had to have it 😂 I’ll be waiting to hear what you think. Disc golf slashing sounds like a good time.
Thanks Alicia! Ha do you really!? That's amazing! See, if you had a booktube channel, you could have been the one to break this mystery for me.
@ I didn’t know you were looking for it! Ha, I would have known. It only has 20 ratings on Goodreads. We gotta bump those number up, those are rookie numbers.
Great haul bro! Definitely a nice package from Mr.Pulp himself. I'd be down to check out that 👽 book. Happy Belated Birthday 🎂!! 👽👾 👽👾👽 #UnidentifiedFlyingBook
Thanks Ian! Yeah I was quite pleased with it! What a guy! Your name is securely in the ring! The ONLY name thus far I might add. I'll probably give it until I post my next vid. But your chances look good so far, haha!
Plenty there to keep you out of mischief! Best wishes and happy reading.
What if book buying is my mischief though!?
What a haul! And happy belated birthday, Brian!!
Hey, thanks Sam! Not a ton of Horror in there for you this time, but hopefully some cool covers to look at at least!
@@BadTasteBooks Yes, still many a great cover! You'll have to let me know what you think of Rooftops. I've heard it's crime, not horror, but it maybe has some disturbing moments
Yeah I think crime as well. I'll let you know when I give it a read someday.
Only POSERS dont know about The Book Graveyard brahbrah.
That's what's up.
I mean...I agree.
Happy birthday!
Thanks Josh!
I love the scenario where you meet new friends from wearing my shirt. That's a really cool way to look at it. Yes, why didn't Jake send me that package?? Also, I see he sent you some of the books I sent him for Christmas hahaha. Those Viking Ciphers look amazing. I'll have to pause now and finish watching later.
It's always the best feeling to wear a shirt for something obscure and someone actually recognizes and comments. It's like finding your people in the wild! Hahaha, he's a re-gifter! That's right man, take a pause. Turn it into three videos. Even four. Here at Bad Taste Books we give you options.
DUPLICATES!!! I know for a fact half the stuff I sent you, you already had!!!
@PulpMortem when you get my package, I won't be offended if you re-gift them later. Seriously though you have so many vintage scifi books there's bound to be a double in there.
@ haha! I wouldn't have minded even if you did. I mean you reviewed Robot Brains right away and that was the one I was excited about
@TheBookGraveyard it's like, I've often considered sending books to It's or Matt since they've sent me stuff, but they already have MASSIVE collections (and high quality, I buy junk)
Very cool haul. I've been meaning to ask you about those Creeper books from Dollar Tree, but I kept forgetting.
I knew about them for a while. I was just never sure if I wanted to pull the trigger on getting one. Glad the wife made the decision for me. Have you read any of them?
@@BadTasteBooks Not yet, but I did pick up 3 or 4.
Here is the thing about your channel… I know that I’ll probably never read most of the books you read and show on here, but I just can’t help but watch because the books you show are just so darn interesting!! I might just have to use some of my local store credit and get a few obscure sci-fi novels. That’s how I feel after your videos 😂 Oh yeah I have three of those creepers! I read Mirror Mirror and it was pretty good!!!
Good! That's the effect I want to have. Even if you never read them they're just cool to look at and know that they exist! Yeah I remember you showing off the creepers books. Glad to hear it was enjoyable.
@ Effect achieved!
Remember, Bryan; if your embarrassingly large book haul lasts for longer than an hour, please seek medical attention. Btw, Moorcock's The Jewel in the Skull is a killer post-apocalyptic/sword-and-sorcery novel. The rest of the series is kinda meh...
Lolol. I definitely need medical attention. Someone needs to stop me before I drown in yellowed paper. Good to know! I was a little overwhelmed that it was the start of a big series, but knowing it's fine to just read the first makes me more interested.
@BadTasteBooks The main character also pops up in the Elric book Sailor on the Seas of Fate in a sort of crossover event. Moorcock's fantasy is insane.
How close are you to reading all of his work? I feel like you've made a dent.
@BadTasteBooks I wish. I have a bunch of his books, but I've only read the first Corum trilogy, the Hawkmoon series, and I'm almost done with the Elric Saga. It's gonna take me a long time to complete his work. His multiverse is MASSIVE.
You'll get there eventually. 2025 is the year. I'm stating it here. I'll read my first Moorcock. Promise.
Happy Birthday! Also the return of GHS??.......we may have to EEBS it..
Thanks Jake! And seriously thanks again for that package. Chock full of awesome stuff! The return of GHS and a book with 2025 in the title. I'm just throwing it out there.
Happy belated birthday! … Man … so many cool books, judging by the covers alone. I had to watch your video twice, once just for the feeling, and again to make some notes. The VIKING CYPHER books, STAR COMMANDOS and POLAR CITY BLUES were especially interesting. And I’ve never heard of that HELL book before and I will definitely hunt it down, thanks for showing!!! By the way, you can call me Michael, mostly because that’s my name 😂. … And great find with that Scorpio book. I can image how you felt after you finally found it. I have something similar with a movie I watched as a teenager that nobody seems to know about. I’m usually quite knowledgeable in terms of movies, but this movie doesn’t seem to exist. Probably my personal Mandela effect story … Anyway, great video, and they can’t be long enough. A good book haul video beats Netflix every time!
Thanks Michael! And yeah lots of exciting stuff, I'm glad you saw a few you're interested in. And yeah I was referring to you when talking about Hell but was tired and was blanking on your username. Michael I can probably handle. Oh man, what's the stuff you remember about the movie? And thanks yeah, I love a long book haul video too!
@ So, there is this woman, hunted by an evil, maybe demonic man in some cowboy outfit. She meets another mysterious stranger, who also looks like a cowboy, and together, they are driving around in a car, mostly through deserted American towns, trying to escape the evil cowboy guy. The showdown takes place around some of those water towers they have or had in small towns. The movie must have been from the late 80s or early 90s and had the distinct B-movie vibe of that era. It’s not Warlock 1 or 2, it’s not Ghost Town, it’s not Retroactive and its not Richard Stanleys Dust Devil. And … that’s all I have. Like you, I’m starting to believe that I dreamed seeing that movie. Does something about it ring any bell? … By the way, I already ordered HELL. It’s actually based on a video game, but it got very good reviews. I‘m intrigued.
@SixStringSamur4i well it sounds good, haha! And while I also have pretty extensive knowledge of low budget horror movies, this one unfortunately isn't ringing any bells for me. Oh nice! Just looked it up. What a random and obscure game to have a novel written about. Interesting!
@ See? My brain obviously made it up, just to fool me and to keep me searching for over 30 years now. Thank you, monkey brain!
Your long hair is gone! You started catching on your looks are distracting us from the books Great haul video man! Nice to see that Vampire Beat book, I picked it up read as well after seeing Paperback Mania’s review on it🔥 Lotta these other books I don’t read since I’m horror only, but the covers are all great, gotta love the old artwork. My friend has read a series I think called Martian Tales by Edgar Rice Burrough. Those might interest you so should check them out it if you haven’t had the chance yet💯
Haha yeah something like that. For sure. Thanks yeah I'm excited about that one. And yeah I saw MonsterBlood talked about those a few months ago. I would love to read that series.
Great list! Glad you put those classic sci-fi books where you felt they belonged. Still trying to get over L’amour saying Poe would have been great if he hadn’t wrote all that dreary stuff. 😆 God’s Abide was just so dumb.
Thanks Virgil! I had no idea 'ol Louis said that....and I'm not surprised. Oh God, wasn't it? Nonsense.
The best part of this video, though there are many, is the decision to NOT spoil Frankenturkey 2. 😆😂 Love it.
Well, I've gotta make people want to read it! Haha
meow!
He says "Meow" back
Bester is not for everyone, I love his writing style, if you watch old videos of him he writes just like he talks, lol. I haven't read Snow Crash yet but probably this year, not sure I'm a huge fan of Stephenson yet, but we'll see. FYI, I'm going to judge you for putting Will Wight and Hawk above Bester 🤣.
You're well within your rights to judge me for both of those. I'll take the judgement. I chose this channel name for a reason haha.
Fun list. I now know about Deathlands because of you. I just recently got Dragonsbane, and recently learnt she did some sequels. Do you think the sequels are needed as a part of the whole? Or could just read the first?
Thanks so much for watching! I'm delighted to share my love of Deathlands, haha. Also the graphic audiobooks of them are really fun if you're into that. I read mixed reviews for the dragonsbane sequels so I stopped after book 1 for now. I felt it worked great as a standalone story and wrapped everything up nicely.
Good show! Lol! I thought Southern Book Clubs Guide was wild! And I Am Legend is truly a masterpiece. Animorphs vs Why Im Afraid of Bees had me laughing. Thanks for sharing.
I see what you did there. Yeah, Southern wasn't bad. Something about it just didn't hook me for whatever reason. I am legend is brilliant! Haha I've seen kids turn into bees way better than this! Lol
Ah man, I get the feeling I'm not going to like Things Have Gotten Worse...I'm happy The Heirloom came in so high -- and I gotta read a Tananarive Due novel!
A lot of people love it. Maybe I'm wrong. Wasn't my thing though. Yeah I didn't even have Due on my radar and read it for a book club. Surprise of the year for me.
@ I’ve heard other describe it as being “edge lordy” and when I sense that in books or movies it typically turns me off
Next video, how to read 109 books in one year. I need tips.
Haha, read a lot of short middle grade books. Also I do audiobooks while driving.
@@BadTasteBooks Eric Larocca has been getting blowback. The more readers he has, the more complaints that he comes up with great titles but the books are lacking. My library has One Day at Horrorland so I’ll check that out. But NO Animorphs! Didn’t realize Applegate’s originals were so good. Have found those on the library’s online book services, as well as Maeve Fly. Lots of great suggestions. Wish I read faster.
@remlya I'm glad I'm not alone in larocca no gelling with me. Glad you found some cool stuff to check out. Don't sweat reading speed. I don't think I read all that fast either. Plus if you read more than a couple books a year it's more than the average person already.
Dragonsbane is one of those books that I always hear about and think "Ooh, I need to read that!" But then forget about it a minute later. And Horror Land being so high on the list makes me happy. Suck it, Sanderson!
It's also the book that made Sanderson fall in love with fantasy....lol
@BadTasteBooks So I've heard. And the setting is fairly traditional from what I've heard. That man is a walking contradiction.
I subscribed
Thanks man, I appreciate it!
No problem
Ah I love Paperback Mania! I got into watching Leone’s videos many months ago and fell in love with all the vintage horror books he covered. He is responsible for adding way too much to my TBR list😂 You are guilty as well now, as I will definitely add all of these to my list. I love more weird horror stories as well, just read a book called Dead Bait which has 19 stories basically on fish/water horror Published in 2009 but felt like reading something from the 1980’s and 1990’s when Stephen King’s Night Shift collection was popular. They were all weird, gorey, creepy, everything I could ask for
Leon is a gem and he needs to return! I'm happy to be guilty of that! Ooh Dead Bait sounds really cool, I will look into it, thanks!
FrankenTurkey strikes again!!
You seem pretty interested. I have your address. Be careful or it'll get sent your way.
What an accomplishment to make this list and video! I've thought about doing it in the past but it's just so much work 😓 - especially reading 100+ (190 in my case) books in the year. Sundial by Catriona Ward was one of my least favorites of 2024. I didn't like it at all and probably won't pick up another book by her. Evil Dead 2 and Dead Alive are such great movies! I love Peter Jackson's horror comedies, with Dead Alive being one of my all time fav. movies. I'm assuming you've seen Bad Taste as well? 😂 Love seeing all the variety of books. I'm very much the same, though mostly a consumer of all things horror, it's nice to switch things up and read fantasy, classics, westerns once in a while, etc. I plan on reading The Blade Itself (finally) soon, I'm hoping I like it, lol. Cheers!
Thanks so much! It was quite the undertaking. And wow, 190 is super impressive! For years I read mostly horror also, but I have diversified a bit over the past few years. I love Bad Taste, haha. Peter Jackson's early stuff is iconic! Thanks again for watching and sharing!
I can’t believe Frankenturkey 2 beat Joe Abercrombie! The fact that you have another of his in the top 10 makes up for it 😂 great video. I can’t imagine how long it would have taken me to make this list.
Don't hate on Frankenturkey! Haha. And thanks, this list was harder to make than I thought it would be.
@ To be fair, I haven’t read Frankenturkey 😂
@@Alicia-606 Thanksgiving comes every year. You've got time 😋
Great video! There are so many on this I've never read!
Thanks Chris!
Thanks for the shout out!
Of course!
hahaha reading The God's Abide right now! I like the mythology stuff, but yeah, the poetic exaltation of sex goes on and on!
Haha well I genuinely hope you enjoy it more than I did. It wasn't my thing.
Very well done video. I did watch all the way till the end. I enjoyed the "Sports Car" guest appearance. Appreciate you putting in all 108 book covers. I have fond memories as a kid reading Animorphs. Unfortunately I felt the same way about Louis L'amours writing style. It just didn't grasp me. My only hot take is that I'm a big fan of Snow Crash. The Cradle series is on my list for this year. Side Note: my girlfriend thinks you look like Spencer Reid from Criminal Minds. She's also a big fan of the book mug.
Thanks for watching man! Yeah, putting in all those images was honestly very time consuming. Glad it was appreciated. I live behind a big road and I hear that shit all the time haha. Yeah it was the right decision to leave the wagon. Lamour isn't for me. I knew I would upset some people snow crash. Cradle is really interesting, I think you'll like it. Ooh I hadn't heard that one before, I can see it! Thanks! It was a gift from The Book Graveyard!
YES! So glad you did this. ert. Did you just say do a couple lines?! haha I can accept Hawk above Assignment but only because it was your Hawk introduction and I know that feeling of awe. This was awesome. Though I did feel like I just watched an hour long video about Goosebumps. Ha! 4/5
Hey, whatever gets people through my videos. Yeah, I think the time is near for me to dive into another Hawk. I'm feeling the itch. And I agree, the list felt pretty cluttered with them to be honest.
HOW CAN YOU NOT LIKE „SNOW CRASH“????!!! It’s probably one of my favorite scifi novels. I mean, the name of the hero protagonist is Hero Protagonist, and while inventing some of the most used cyberpunk ideas on the go, it also features one of the most mind blowing conspiracy theories I‘ve ever read … language as a virus. My whole world view changed completely after reading this book. … I read ROGUE MOON recently and it’s VERY interesting but also one of the greatest shams in the history of the written word. I bought the book because the blurb promised a plot like the trashy movie MOONTRAP, with an evil alien structure on the moon that kills everyone. And it’s not about that. Not at all. The last 20 pages maybe, and even those are underwhelming. But on the other hand, it’s an interesting read about human archetypes, our struggles with life and death and stuff like that. But … I honestly thought I am the only one who knows Mel Odom or thinks he is a great writer! I always wanted to read the old Shadowrun novels, and after decades, I was able to buy almost all of them, and for the first one, I picked one by Mel Odom. And it was the absolute perfect entry point for me. It had an Arnold Schwarzenegger type street samurai, the Barbarian twins and tons of other stuff that felt like it was taken right from the best 80s and 90s scifi action movies. I immediately devoured the other Shadowrun books written by him as well, and they are on the same level. I can’t wait to read another one of his books, Lethal Interface, which seems to be Cyberpunk detective noir story … which might become my new favorite book! I’ll definitely will hunt down his Rogue Angel books (thanks for the tip), although the covers are pretty boring. Anyway … MEL ODOM!!! 😂
Yeah I thought of you when I talked about snow crash cause I know you're a cyberpunk guy. The language virus was great. I think hiro protagonist as the name was a little too on the nose for me though. I need to watch Moontrap ASAP. That looks amazing, thanks! Mel Odom is awesome! I also really want his Shadowrun books! Sick barbarian twins reference! I have lethal interface but I haven't read it yet! Look up the Time Police trilogy by Warren Norwood and Mel Odom. I think it would be up your alley!
@ I bought the Time Police trilogy immediately after I saw it on your channel! And especially after the fact that Mel Odom wrote the third and final book. So thanks for that!
@@SixStringSamur4i oh that's right! I was thinking you were the one that commented on those a while back.
Cool list. This video was a real walk down memory lane with all the “Goosebumps” books you listed.
Ha thanks man. Reading them has certainly been a stroll down memory lane this year!
Yes for The Reformatory!
Haha I'm glad you liked it
A fiesty 4.5 for Downriver. I can dig it, Sounds fun. High pitched critics be damned.
I think you would enjoy it if you ever come across it. Or hell, you know I'll send it to you if you say the word. Haha
Oh man, I LOVED the "Night in Terror Tower" episode as a kid. I've not had great luck re-reading Goosebumps as an adult so far
Yeah, honestly, there has probably been more misses than hits for me on this reread unfortunately.
You got badass taste in books! I'll definitely look forward to your ranking video!
Haha thanks man! Looking forward to doing it!
Bryan tells backstory of Through the Ice. I'm about ready to cry a tear for the heartfelt moment. Bryan one second later, this book sucks, it was written terrible, it's total garbage. I'm was happy to hear you liked the Assignment Series. He is CIA. Ranking videos from worst to best is a terrible idea?! I'm looking forward to your video. I really hope a kids books isn't number one. 4/5.
Haha yeah it was tough to rag on that one.... As soon as I finished recording I looked it up. You know I don't edit though. I'd prefer the internet to know just how dumb I am. It's a great idea. It really is. It's just so hard to make a list im confident in. I'm excited to do it though.
I love the cover for Happy Bunny! Thanks for putting it on my radar.
Me too! Always happy to point people towards some great indie stuff!
I haven’t read a Sanderson book yet (because I‘m not the biggest fantasy fan and very picky with my fantasy reads), and I also haven’t read a LeGuin book yet. Mostly because of the gender themes. I don’t want to go too much into details here, because I think social media is not the best way to „discuss“ such things, but I want my books to be the perfect escapism, and the gender debate is one of the things I like to escape from 😉 With that in mind, I should look out for some Executioner books with a healthy dose of vigilantism 🤣 Have you ever read the Parker books from Richard Stark/Donald Westlake? I like them a lot, and it’s kinda cool to be in the head of a bad guy from time to time.
I get wanting your fiction to serve as pure escapism. I have not looked into those, I'll do that now!
Haven't read Left Hand of Darkness yet, it's on my list. I loved her novel The Lathe of Heaven!
I'll keep that one in mind! This definitely won't be the last of her that I read.
The Utah National Parks are incredible!
They're really spectacular!
I always thought the cover of A Night in Terror Tower was better than the story. That guy gave me the creeps for a good while. I know exactly what the axe is used for! Also, I'm currently reading The Well of Ascension right now and agree it is sort of moving slow at the beginning but not bad. I'm reading it to my kids and they are enthralled, so that is something.
Oh that's awesome. Cool dad! I would have loved these as a kid I'm sure!
@ Well, they are slightly edited but stories or magic and assassins are pretty exciting!
