Mr. Schmidy . . . Really enjoyed your video; that was some really nice shooting 🤙. . . especially with a .410! Did you even exceed a box of shells (QTY = 25)? Even if you had to crack a 2nd box to bag your limit, still impressive. I envy you having a place to dove hunt 30 minutes away from your home. For me in California (SF Bay Area), I need to drive between 1.5 - 4.0 hour to hunt doves . . . a couple of Apricot and Almond orchards (private property) and some public lands (dried up creek beds, CA aquaduct, and some open fields). Thanks for the nice video 👍!

I ran out if shells for my 12 ga on a hunt one time. I took my H and R 28 ga Topper Jr just as a backup, but ended up pulling it out because it was all I had shells left for. That was one of the most fun times I had dove hunting. I probably looked silly with that little thing in my hands but man I could still slap birds with that thing!

#8 is plenty to kill a dove on out there. Pattern density is what matters. I’ve shot them with #9 and a full choke

Ive been stoning dove out to 50 with #8. Ive found that pattern density is more important than pellet size with 2-3 hits from a smaller pellet being more effective than 1 hit from a larger pellet (up to a point-currently testing #9 with poor results so far) Also, #7 1/2 are .095” and #8 are .09” and im finding that extra .005” of the #7 1/2 has no effect on terminal performance, but does have a negative effect on pellet count. Just got done testing #8 vs #8 1/2 (.09” vs .085”) and it is the transitional point of diminishing returns of pellet energy vs pattern density. Out to 30 the terminal performance of the #8 1/2 is the same as the #8, past 30 the rate of pellets left in the meat begins to increase with distance on the #8 1/2, while the #8 continues to get complete pass throughs out to 45. If you’ve made it this far, can you tell i’ve been doing research to publish in an article for the project upland magazine? Sorry for geeking out on your channel.

What ammo are you using here?

I have a mossberg 500 410ga TSS turkey gun. Mine i can interchange the chokes. I have a mossberg SA 410ga too. I squirrel crow and qauil hunt with them. I reload mostly 410 3 inch ammo. If i didnt i couldn't shoot one as much as i do. Hard too find 3 inch hulls too reload.

Which pump are you shooting?
