Dexter the Blue Abyssinian goes crazy with his toy
Here's some video I shot of Dexter playing with his favorite toy. At the time of this video he was 5 months old and we only had him a few days. As you can see he made himself right at home almost immediately. The video quality is poor but it shows how much energy these little guys have. Enjoy!

Here's some video of Dexter our Blue Abyssinian dragging his blanket from his bed. He does this quite often and also brings laundry up from the basement.
Introducing Dexter (Blue Abyssinian cat)

Here's some video of our blue Abyssinian Dexter at 10 months having a blast on his cat tree. This is my first attempt creating a TH-cam video. Hope it makes you smile.
Long time ago but is he doing ok?
Thank you for asking. Sorry to say on Jan. 14, 2019 we lost him due to complications from diabetes. He was an amazing cat and we are still heartbroken even after all these years. He was a once in a lifetime companion.
My 3 year old is moody as hell. The bites are easing off, finally. Abby's are really nice cats aside from the hissing and cranky fits.
Um thats a snek not a blanket sir.
This is a stupid pet owner. If you're gonna take his blanket away, don't pull his teeth out doing it.
Handsome cat.
Little stinker. He's too cute.
So, so cute little guy💕
What a cute little guy. I'm glad the algorithm brought me here, even though it's been a few years. I hope you & Dexter are still doing well. This made my day. Thank you! 💐🐈😊
So glad you enjoyed watching Dexter’s video. I wish I could tell you Dexter and I are growing old together, but on Jan 14th, 2019 we had to put him down due to severe medical issues. He was only 6½ years old. It’s over 4 years now and hardly a day goes by that I don’t think about him. He was a real treasure.😥
They are beautiful cats.
They may be domesticated, but instinct runs deep...
I've had Abys since 1989. My current two are 10 and 11yr this year. I have lost several over the years and it is such a heartache when they go. BUT they've been such a blessing over the long years of my life. Wish every cat lover could experience the Abyssinian. What precious little darlings they are. Love, p
Sadly on Jan 14th 2019 we lost Dexter to complications from diabetes. He was only 6 ½ years old. He was everything you could possibly want in a companion. Six months later we contacted the breeder we got Dexter from to see if she had any kittens. She was no longer breeding them but had a 1 ½ year old male that she used for showing that she offered us. We picked him up in late December and thought we had hit the jackpot. He was a ruddy and was just so affectionate with us when we went to visit. We brought him home and first introduced him in the basement where we had a big play area for our previous cats. He played for hours and kept running up to us and rubbing our faces like he was thanking us for adopting him. After that we brought him upstairs and everything was fine for about an hour. Suddenly for no reason he violently attacked my wife. We managed to lock him in the basement, but every time we checked on him he just growled and hissed at us. The next day we managed to get him into a carrier and returned him to the breeder. We later found out she had a similar situation with one of her other cats. All the Aby breeders in our state have either retired or passed away so we’ve given up on trying to find one. During the height of the pandemic we adopted a Tabby kitten from our local shelter that was rescued from a landfill. She has turned out to be a wonderful companion but we still long for an Aby. We are both in our upper sixties so our time to get one may be running out.
@@ronpost587 Oh, bless your hearts. I had a similiar situation with a breeder I knew. She became ill and wanted me to take her prize winning and grand champion maker stud. She said he was past due to be retired and was impressed at how much he liked me. He was without question THE most beautiful Aby I'd ever seen and he was altered and I had him in my spare bedroom and spent a lot of time with him trying to acclimate him to our lives. After a few days he jumped up and split the bottom of my earlobe with a well placed claw and was so fast I hardly saw him do it - I was greatful it wasn't my eye. I returned him and an older couple that had no other cats but were experienced with cats felt that they could handle him. I lost track but I still (after 30yr) think of that magnificent cat - his name was Blade Runner and sired many grands - I'll never forget him. I think that they develope a different mindset when they are accustomed to being used as a stud. All cats are beautiful to me. I rescued an 11yr old Tortie from our shelter and had her for 6yr when she developed an aggressive cancer. I adored that old cat. She was a talker and had such a lovely presence so I'm sure your darling little tabby will fulfill all your kitty-love needs but I do feel sad that I am getting old and may not have another Aby after my two go. I didn't realize that breeders were hard to find now. Not surprising really with the economy being so precarious. We did live in Tampa but now in the Ozarks and had to drive over a hundred miles to the closest one but that was 10 yrs ago. I'm so sorry that your lost your beautiful little Dexter so soon. They really are a marvelous breed. I've had several and they all have that adorable, loving personality and exquisite beauty. My little male is giving me head butts as I'm trying to finish this up. So blessed to have them. Blessings, my friends, pb
My two male tabbies (one ginger, the other a tuxedo) will drag the fluffy liners out of their baskets as well as any random blankies around the room but only when I am out of the room or the house. They never initiate this practice when I can see them.
I had two abys - brothers from the same litter - from when they were 12 weeks old. One day, I had bought some cake, and left it on the kitchen table, wrapped in the baker's paperbag. When I came home later from work, I wanted to eat the cake. But it was gone. Not a trace. Searching the house, I found a small strip of white paper, one quarter the size of a stamp. Now I had the direction the cake had wandered off in. Went to the bedroom, looked under the bed. There was the paper bag - shredded - with some of the cake inside. AND A NYLON CUTTING BOARD, 30 x 40 cm. No knife though.
Our blue abby Toronto does the same thing whilst growling like a dog. Abby boys are so engaging and unlike any other cats. His brother Archie is tawny and totally different character (more like a cat). Dexter is gorgeous!
Cute
LOL
"It's mine, you can't hab it!" Dexter is one determined feline. LOL 😹!
❤️
He is sooo cute n naughty
Молодец!! Хозяин!!

Beautiful cat
Thank you for the wonderful comment. Unfortunately Dexter lost his battle with diabetes January 2019. He was only 6 1/2 years old.
@@ronpost587 I’m so sorry. So young. It’s not fair😔
He’s so cute
I’ve never seen a “blue” Abyssinia before. He has a appearance of a Singapura just much larger with larger ears.
Hi Mark, the Singpura is very similar to an Abyssinian in looks and personality. In fact some believe they are a cross between an Abyssinian and a Burmese. The Abyssinian comes in four colors. Ruddy and blue are the two most common. We’ve had three Abyssinians over the past 23 years and absolutely adore them. Unfortunately we lost Dexter a chronic medical condition two years ago and can no longer find any breeders in our part of the country.
I have a blue Aby, Oliver. He's fantastic. Fastest cat in the world. But he doesn't like people, except for me. He's a one=person cat, but with me he's so loving, he sleeps with me, watches tv with me , goes on walks, is jealous of other cats. He's so intelligent and playful.
Adorable cat! I have a mix Aby 🥰
They are a trip.😀😀😀
Almost as cute as mt Abby 😛😛😛
Hi Ron. May I ask which breeder did you get blue aby from? Blue abys are really rare.
Hello Ye. We got Dexter from DeVande Cattery in Neenah, Wisconsin (USA). Shortly after we got Dexter the owner passed away. I'm not sure if they are still offering kittens. Dexter recently had to be put to sleep due to complications from diabetes. We are heartbroken but will probably get another aby when the time is right. I just can't imagine life without the joy and companionship of an Abyssinian cat.
@@ronpost587 Ohhhh nooooooo!!!! I feel so sorry for Dexter. Wanna cry.
@@ronpost587 Oh no! That's really sad.
@@elizabethcsicsery-ronay1633 Thank you for your concern. It's been over two years since we lost him and it still hurts like hell. We'd love to get another one but most of the breeders we know have retired or passed away.
What is the music?
It's just one of the audio clips that came with my video editing software (Corel Videostudio Pro x8). It's a short clip so I drop in multiple copies and cross-fade them to fit the length of the video.
Cute little acrobat.
September 18, 2018: Sad day for Dexter. We had suspicions something was wrong so we made a trip to the vet. Turns out he's diabetic. Fortunately we caught it early and he is doing well but needs two insulin injections daily. What baffles me is how a month before, he had his annual checkup up and was in perfect health. He's only six years old and up to the point of becoming diabetic was extremely active and playful.
It's been two years. How's Dexter now?
@@abiseniyya I'm sorry to tell you we had to have Dexter put down 1/14/2019. We were doing pretty well managing his diabetes and the week after New Years day he seemed really good. The second week of January he suddenly went downhill fast. We called our vet and had multiple tests run to try to determine what was wrong. After two more emergency visits that weekend we still had no answers. On Sunday night we decided it was time to consider the inevitable. Monday morning we took him in to end his suffering. It was the first time in his life he did not cry on the way to the vet. Thankfully he went very peacefully. Dexter was very special to all who knew him. It's been nearly two years since he's gone and my eyes are flooded with tears as I'm writing this.
@@ronpost587 Rip for Dexter, he seemed like a smart amazing cat. I'm sorry :(
💕💕❤❤

My cat would never think of dragging his blanket to where he wants it, instead he would meow and cry until I moved it for him!
Hi there, I work for Rumble (dot) com, a video licensing agency. We have an offer for your video. Please email me at ivan (dot) nikolic (at) rumble (dot) com. Thanks.
I love how he fans his toes.
holy shit those are some big ears!
Ron - what's your experience been with the health of Abby's? any gingivitis or ear issues?
From our experience I would say Abyssinians have no more dental issues than any of the other breeds we've had. As far as the ears they do tend to have more issues but only require that you clean them regularly. Maybe it's because they have larger ears than most breeds. Our first Aby lived to the age of fifteen and enjoyed excellent health until his last couple of weeks. I would not hesitate to recommend an Aby to anyone. They are highly intelligent, playful and affectionate companions. Just make sure you get them from a reputable breeder.
Ron, thanks for your reply. I love Abby's, looking to get one this Spring.
I'm in love! I want the same cat!!! Could you, please, recommend a breeder!!!
I would start with some of the organizations dedicated to cats. cfa.org & tica.org are international organizations and list breeders and show schedules. acfacat.com is USA only. Cat Fancy magazine will list breeders in the classified section but I would highly recommend going to a cat show and meeting the breeders.
Hi! I am looking for blue abessinian cats, Dexter is realy beautiful and funny cat :) Could you recommend me a breeder of do you have kittens available sometimes from Dexter?? Thank you for any infos! nemetborbala@gmail.com
That was mean to pull the blanket from him and drag him. You could have hurt his teeth!! He is not a dog. Then you threw the blanket on top of him. You should treat him better!!!
He looked up when she slacked off the blanket like more please. She was just pulling it taunt. It's called play.
The Aby was fine. My male is strong and plays tug of war even more roughly. He does the pulling. If it hurt, hed quit.
Believe me that cat loves playing hard. That was nothing.
By the way,how can anyone down arrow such a cute beautiful clever cat?? xx
Gorgeous kitty!
strong cat, i love that breed
biting like a pitbull :D
i have a cat too...he is an Abyssinian and hes name is blue and he is still young...and i understand the frustration of raising a cat too XD
Dexter is absolutely a "Beautiful Cat". Wish I had him. I bet he's a riot to have.
My fawn aby does this too! I find a particular rug and a certain blanket in places around the house! It's hilarious your guy fights for it like a puppy!
Where does this male drag his blanket to? Thank you.
Kristy Asao Nowhere particular, usually from the living room couch through the kitchen. He doesn't drag the blanket around much anymore, now he's got a thing for Beanie Babies.
Ron Post Aww I see.
I'm so glad to know my cat isn't the only one who does that. Lol.
are they generally a talkative breed or more on the silent side? we are searching for a highly active quiet breed.
muaythai193 They are generally very quiet. Our first one was very talkative but Dexter is very quiet and has a kitten like voice. Our second Abyssinian was also very quiet. They are very affectionate, loyal and stay very playful well into adulthood.
Hey Ron. Can you tell me if your Abys are a 24h bag of crazy (lol) or if they sleep through the night and also have their resting times during the day? Thanks
muaythai193 If you only have one they will most likely sleep when you sleep. For a while we had 2 of them and they would play while we were sleeping but nothing too crazy. The are like small children. Anything you leave out will be a toy to them. By age 2-3 they will settle down. They are know as the clowns of the cat world.
Ron Post Why do you have only 1 now? Was it too much? We got a big cat room with natural cat tree, sleeping places, etc and I was planning to put both in the cat room over night so they don't come in the sleeping room. Do you think they would play around all night in the dark and keep us up?
muaythai193 We had another Aby but she had to be put down this last fall. For nearly three years we had to give her weekly injections and had many trips to the vet. Dexter never really took to another cat. He is very possessive of my wife and I and seems quite content being the center of our attention. That's not to say we wouldn't ever get another cat but the time just isn't right now. Our cats have always had full run of the house and have never kept us up at night. At one time we had four cats.
