Most of the audio was bad on Hitchcock's film of Jamaica Inn. The dialog was also limited. It was a bit creepy, but one needs to have read the book to understand the film.

I used to have a Brooklyn Public Library card myself, but let it lapse. Worth knowing. You can make a "donation" to the St. Louis Public Library to get a one-year nonresident card. Side note: it seems like public libraries could use the nonresident card revenue stream!

I remeber reading this series back in 6th grade and it was one of the first series i was immersed in. I remeber speed reading the last book as it was nearing the end of the school year and i had to return it back. This series will always have a special place in my heart as it really sparked my enjoyment for reading.

I remembered when Deenie has scoliosis especially she’s has to wear Milwaukee Brace for next 4 years. I hated it’s especially her Mom’s always giving her a hard time her posture since she’s thinks she’s sloughs or whatever’s. I remembered the doctor told her and parents either surgery or Milwaukee Brace. I’m glad that Deenie’s sister’s Helen is really wonderful. 😊

From what I have heard, many Rose Madder readers find the abuse revolting simply because it is too realistic. They extrapolate this realism to the rest of rhe story. 1. There must have been some serious csuse for such behaviour 2. There should be a realistic means of defeating the villain Point is, many read it and demand realism all the way perhaps to unconsciously reassure themselves that such evil ought not to exist and whenever it does it must be defeated

I'm a huge fan of Daphne du Maurier and have read all of her books. I agree with you here that Jamaican Inn, while still a highly entertaining story, does have a few areas that modern readers will find problematic and/or even disturbing. Nice overview here, thank you.

With AI being a bigger thing and it even being in VR games, it's pretty scary to think people would prefer a robot than to face a real person

I just finished this book! Norman is literally the *worst*! I felt like I needed a shower after reading his perspective. 😂 But, I agree that he was kind of an “evil for the sake of being evil” character… but even when some of his backstory was explained, I hated him way too much to care or have any sympathy for him lol Overall, I give the book 3.5 stars. I liked it, and he got what was coming to him. And I gotta say, Gert at the later half was a badass! I literally laughed out loud when she peed on him lol Normally, I would find that repulsive, but the SOB deserved it. 😂

Also I strongly that it's terrible for other women to limit us women to a definition of just breeding children. There's so much more to being a woman than just being a parent. I am 63 going on 64 years old and I have 3 adult children. One who is like her biological father and he is a narcissistic and she really but my current husband and the other two children her brothers through a horrible time.

I had started reading the book then when the main character met up with the cousin. I felt like the cousin was taken advantage right away, insisting that they ignore the situation that torn them apart and kinda bossing the main character to some extent I saw it headed in a direction I didn't want to go in. Having been a victim and held a lot of the information about being assaulted in for years I don't think its a book for me.

Just finished the book…my word, that was deliciously dark and twisted. The last quarter of it is so frenetically paced, I could hardly take in one batshit crazy scene before I was engulfed by the next. “That suicide” though…haunting is the right word. Out of the 13 King books I’ve read so far, this is in my top 3 for sure (just nudged Cujo out the way), after The Stand and The Shining respectively. Top drawer stuff 👌🏽

I used to have an NYPL card because I grew up and lived in NYC for decades but I now live abroad and my NYPL card is long expired. Since I live abroad what I did is that I asked my mom to let me borrow her Tampa (Hillsborough) library card and I also have two other accounts at library systems in the US which are totally free to open up online. So now I have 3 library cards in my Libby app which is great because I can listen to audiobooks or download ebooks. I've really enjoyed listening to audiobooks. I can't get through a book so much faster than having to sit down and read it.

Try Roseville Library in Roseville Calif. You might be able to get a free one out of state. I'll let you use mine if it can work without problem? I'm working on it. I heard there are some govt libraries that are open as well as the library of congress. As I said, I'll be checking.

How do you feel about the fact that a Man wrote this story? and the Director of the 1975 film was a british man (Brian Forbes) symbolism is EVERYTHING & EVERYWHERE in THE STEPFORD WIVES it is it's strength, along with the conspiracy. ive also read the novel which is...140 pages, a VERY short book, which surprised me, anyone could read it in a day, two at the most, I didnt think it was long enough to lose interest the book is every bit as good as the original film

Ohio has a great library system. I think it is $90 per year for non residents. I have been contemplating it for some time. I live in the DMV and have a card for all surrounding cities, including Fairfax. Their selection is vast.

I know this is an older video, I too had a Brooklyn card and was extremely disappointed when they stopped allowing out-of-state membership. I would suggest if you haven't already, check with friends and family that live out of state if you can use their card. My mother-in-law lives in a different state and I use her library account to get online content in addition to my local library. It's still not nearly as good as Brooklyn, but it does give me more options.

Dylan Can Read did a video on Libby and has a few libraries for you-free. What is the world coming to when libraries charge to read? What about any poorer kids in Brooklyn-yikes! It’s the dummying down of society if you can’t afford it!

I know you are a big reader and I don’t live in Montana , but I just think that $50 a month is very pricey. However, in the beginning, you said $50 a year, which is pretty good. My thought is Missoula which has a major university/college. Perhaps you can get a subscription there.

Just watched the 1975 version and it was amazing and so uncomfortable. Jordan Peele has mentioned it as an inspiration for “Get Out” which I also love and they are very similar movies, both great in their own ays. Sexism is not about hating female bodies, the Stepford men adored female bodies. Racism not about hating black skin, the white family in “Get out” adored black bodies enough to want to become black. Instead sexism and racism are about not granting certain people respect and dignity as individuals. The shortest description of feminism is that “Women are people”, something the Stepford men didn’t approve of.

The great Mark Twain said he read Jane Eyre regularly so ss to never forget how much he hated Bronte as an author. I could not stand the Brontes but this book is incredible ... A must read. The audio version is fabulous.
