    I remember me and my brother used to watch Guy double target and Devil Hunter yohko when we were kids. And watching Kino's journey and Final fantasy unlimited with my sister when she was a teenager. I plan to collect most of the AdV anime I used to own and even The ones I didn't. I Want The Sonic anime movie bad.

    I enjoy ADV Films. I still have some of the dvds and a few catalogs that I picked up at their booth from comic and anime conventions. I have Robotech, Noir, Rahxephon, Najica Blitz Tactics, Full Metal Panic Fumoffu, and some others I can't remember. However, they always have lots of voice actor interviews, trailers, etc. I also like meeting the voice actors at conventions and ask questions about their roles, and watching sneak peaks at their panels. I also enjoy meeting voice actors like Monica Rial, Tiffany Grant, Hilary Hagg, Steve Blum, Greag Ayres, Cris Patton, etc.

    The first ADV-backed anime that I watched on DVD was "Robotech: The Macross Saga", and it still holds a place to my heart for so many years. And like other people who watches other ADV-backed titles, I first saw the trailer of "Neon Genesis Evangelion" and it was an intensely edited trailer that blew my 7-year-old mind.

    I still have my box sets of both the original and the ADV Bubblegum Crisis. I love them both, but I think if you like darker and grittier, go with the original 80’s version. It holds no punches. Tokyo 2040 is more polished and friendly if you will. I think comparing them is like comparing apples and oranges. Both of them stand alone in their own.

    I won't say anything about the show, since I have not watched it, but already decided to add it to the long "watch later" list. Instead I'll drop a little fun fact. Did you know that, despite animation being made with film in the past, a lot of 90s and early 2000s productions were COLOURED in a computer? I hope that PAL DVD you were holding in the end was not a direct NTSC to PAL conversion, those are horrible.

  • @NotOrdinaryInGames
    @NotOrdinaryInGames 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

    There should be some sort of Kino's Journey Review Bingo. Like, how many reviewers don't know that 3 more episodes were produced, but never aired with the original 13? How 1 of those 3 is the sequel to the backstory episode? And how many people don't know the Bluray release messed up the video (NTSC stuff, too complicated for zoomers).

    Shocked to Kurau brought up in a modern video! finished it a couple months ago and absolutely loved it, i do agree that the marketing hurt the show, you go into it expecting a sci fi action, but its really a character driven emotional drama, really hope it somehow gets its flowers someday

    17:37-17:41 For the sake of completeness, there are a few more actors than those listed who have at least one more credit in the books: -Henry Pinter (Noima in Second Target) is also Ryuji in Burn Up! -Jimmy Slaughter (Dr. Vail in Awakening of the Devil) is Mr. Gerald in Burn Up! and Director Kim in Mighty Space Miners -Jane Carlile-Angus (aka Jane Angus, aka Jan Angus) (Slave Girl in Awakening of the Devil) pops up quite a bit more than the last two, appearing in stuff as varied as Blue Seed and Samurai Shodown: The Motion Picture, but her only role with a proper name is Noriko Katsuda (Naoko's Mother) in Golden Boy [not to be confused with Noriko from its 3rd installment, played by Kim Sevier] That nearly half the credited cast came back after something like Guy is an impressive display for Texas' first English dub.

    I'm from the group that grew up too young to be involved with things like fansubbed-VHS trades and trips to Suncoast, so nearly all my experience of the A.D. Vision/ADV Films brand has been on this very platform. 1) The "Do It Now"-series Trailers: Old school goes hard. I can also say with complete certainly that I never would have heard of The Chemical Brothers (and their Beats) if not for that promo piece. Something something life imitates art and what not. 2) Azumanga Daioh Trailer: In the rare instances where the narrator gets to act in character, you can't help but feel that warm, tingly feeling. 3) The OG Full Metal Panic Trailer: When the music used ("Last Attack" by C MUSIC Professional Library) isn't even from the work in question, *and nearly everyone who's seen it asks where it's from*, you know you've marketed the ever-loving hell out of your source material. 4) Ghost Stories Trailer: This show needs no introduction at this point; its reputation precedes itself. Despite it all, I'm left to wonder what the original point of contact was for the anime community at large. This trailer (narrated by Luci Christian) seems to be it. Like the Puni Puni Poemy trailer showcased in your vid, they try to be subtle at first (make it look normal, even), but some things start slipping through the cracks, and I can only guess that a few poor souls decided to investigate the matter, not knowing what was waiting for them on the other side. And the rest, as they say, is history.

    19:13 actually think cruel angel's thesis works especially the intro/ending shots alongside lyrics giving an ancient feel fitting the themes of the angels.(even more in the original concept for eva being a stealth sequel for nadia with the angels/likely eva's instead of precursors being atlantean technology as 16 lights released by the red noah's destruction in nadia's finale.:3) though the adv films trailer does fit the actual series being a giant clustermindf@*ck of everyone spiraling into insanity just ending with a look into the main character/creator's psyche as the world ends around him.(with it's follow up film showing more context but let's be honest ending that one on a still bleak/knowing the characters just royally beyond "could've been avoided if actual therapist were still alive in it"screwed world till anno was refreshed seeing the joy of life.)

    ADV Trailers have been enjoyable back in the day when Anime on DVD was the only way to access some of the best shows from Japan during the late 90s early 2000s. Godannar trailer was perhaps a great synopsis of the entire series within a few short minutes, introduce how crazy the story is followed by some Giant Robot action.

    The English dub of the Gilgamesh anime by ADV is pretty good. But the eponymous manga by the man behind Cyborg 009 and Kamen Rider, which Gilgamesh was based on, doesn’t have an English translation but deserves to have it anyway.

    The ADV Mazinkaiser trailer is still amazing! It’s got the dvd logo, two dubs (Japanese and English) and all. Also helping matters is that due to Mazinger Z having a magnificent Latin American fanbase, the English dub was written by a Mexican American woman. The movie spinoff Mazinkaiser Vs the Great General of Darkness has an even better English dub cast, but for Discotek.
