Hey Vitendo4africa, great content you got there. I think all this channel needs is a little push to get things moving. I can help with that. My info is on this very channel I'm using to comment.
Yes, it is a challenge to raise children in the Diaspora. Our kids don`t belong anywhere which causes identity crises and a disconnection to our culture. However, being friends with them is not the optimal solution. The Western World demands total emersion which includes embracing their culture and behaviour in order to get a comfortable place in the region. If we keep on insisting that our kids isolate from that then we are doomed for failure. We need a balance where children are exposed to our values but also accepting the new culture we INTRODUCED to them. Therefore we simply need to find a way to be PARENTS and not FRIENDS, probably through parental classes or cultural orientation. We could also take the kids for visits back home as much as we can, but we have to protect them from all the abuse they face when they are in the motherland for not in the "normal" African way. Otherwise they will hate the visits and when they become adults hate their ancestry places.
Could we get the powerpoint presentation available for download
Thanks Jeff for this information
Great information. Learnt a lot.
This is a great topic, many of our African families are not aware of this disorder. Some believe it's evil or spiritual.
Grow up and stop using racism as your crutch, everyone is discriminated against.
Your babygirl is beautiful and such a great blessing
Thanks Vanessa

'Promo sm' 🤦
Fresh kids are not the American way. Our government doesn't punish these "kids" and parents are forbidden to punish our children without worrying that as parents - we will go to jail. Keep correcting your children!
Great conversations. Thank you all!
I just want to say BRAVO 👏to all youths who participated either listening or talking ,I mean what an amazing forum ?
Great insight from today's forum, thoroughly enjoyed.
This was very insightful, informative, and timely conversation for all of us. Thank you

Great message
wow, this is so brilliant, i had to share it out with my daughter, nephews and nieces. we need more educative clips from you

How we suppose to unite when africans don't evening like themselves and much tribalism is practiced among africans....how do you, unite a ppl 500to 700 years removed from african....a whole different ppl you, are dealing with now with they own ethnicity group.
Africa is a continent, made up of 50+ countries and 1,000+ ethnic groups. I don't know what you mean when you say we don't like ourselves. Our identity is not defined solely by our skin colour. Just like everywhere else on the planet.
''Show me a person who has a negative attitude towards Africa and I will show you someone who has negative attitude towards themselves. You can not hate the root of a tree, without hating the tree'' -- Malcolm X

I wanted to share an interview I did with Calvin University alumni, speaker and author Rebecca Deng about her book "What They Meant For Evil". Rebecca came as a refugee from what is now South Sudan via the Kakuma Refugee Camp in Kenya. This interview and her book deal with themes such as healing and trauma. th-cam.com/video/xzWQ7jdYAOQ/w-d-xo.html
Jeff does a great job with immigrants here in St. Louis and beyond.
Good stuff. Very interesting Gisele
He is doing great and international
Where did the issue arise? I'll say Africans.
Most Americans are xenophobic, so I would dare say both sides hold some responsibility. We need to stop looking at each other through the lens of our historical oppressors. Who taught us to hate each other and ourselves. That is the root of all these divisions.
Both africans and carribeans are jealous of us bcos of what we've built and don't want to be Humble.
@@kngston20 Exactly 💯💯💯💯 you is 💯💯💯💯💯💯💯💯 correct about everything you said thanks
They brought they tribalism with them when coming to America....an black folks don't know tribalism and they practice it against us..
@@kngston20 man forget that we need to become xenophobic and separate from this damn diaspora… I’m tired of all the generalizing and lies, these people don’t like us for whatever reason and that’s it…

Every year St. Louis Women recognizes women who have emerged as leaders in their field. As leaders, these inspiring people have made a marked difference in our community and have forged paths for others to follow. This is a great opportunity to come together with many others who have made our community a better place and inspire others to pursue their dreams.
