Awesome video. The historical story of Kelantan was interesting. Possible Kelantan could have well developed since bordering withThailand and if wider diversity has been allowed since historical period as it was. Kelantan people also seems to be of diversify race and culture a mix of Thailand, Chinese, Malay & others. Thank you for sharing.

All work no play😂 I left pursuing job,status from a very very young age,left Msia tooo all my friends family in Msia are very successful but outsourced happiness to others in pursuit of wealth creation I was never bought in to STPM,uni...even though I did very little and outdid all my all my ' very focused top students studying all.day'... I even received scholarships against all odds in a highly competitive subject matter So though,I have a mortgage,late buyer of of a home ,I know this seems to be the opposite for a lot of people

This episode is a fresh air for my merdeka break, reminds me of a trip to Kelantan with my dad 40 years ago, all the way from Johor in a lori balak :) Eddin is a cool guy and you two are lovely travellers. We listen to the same sort of music Chuang, that's a plus ;)

We create an image to portray to others what we want to be though not necessarily what we are and are trapped in that image. I realized that we need to let go of some of our wants if we do not want to be stressed by acquiring them. Life as you've said is short and we need to stop and smell the roses every now and then. I pity your friend for his predicament but he has put himself into a rut. A rut which he created for himself and only he can get out of it if he truly wants to. We are masters of our fate and to let society dictate what we should be to be labeled as successful is stress at its highest level. Face is important to many people until health says otherwise.

kelantanese dialect from the east side seems to be more understandable than the west side (Jeli, Dabong, Kuala Krai & Gua Musang) is even thicker

I will certainly not agree with Eddin Khoo on his rebuff of the Chola dynasty. Proper history will tell him that the Majapahit Empire was ruled by the Cholas, a south indian community.2/3 of southeast asia was under the cholas occupation.Many of the Hindu relics are still there to be seen.It will do him a world of good if he concur with a lot of other learned historians to rewrite Malaysian history(for primary and secondary schools) now as the powers-to-be in this country have distorted history

Hello Chuang, redirected from you pod session with Eddin. I consider myself an amateur historian. I think highly of my Sejarah education at school as it provided me a foundation understand and appreciate history today. It is actually a testament to work done by Eddin father; his vision was for Malaysians to share a generic/ general account of the formation of Malaysia. The problem with history is its often looked in isolation and it also serves an effective propaganda tool. History is often misrepresented. In the general psyche of people, historical facts are static. It often overlooks the societal fabric of the time. The reality is history is salient rich with sociocultural subtexts. As a history geek and a mud blood, I’ve aways had a fascination with Malaysian history particularly the origins of indo-malayans in Malaysia. I come from the school of thought that Penang is cradle of Modern Malaysia. I have my reasons based on historical events (too long to share here 😅. With regards to this video, having read Account of Abdullah’s Sea Voyage to Kelantan, I have to correct some of the facts presented by Eddin. To begin with, his voyage to Kelantan from Singapore was on a British diplomatic envoy to secure release Jewish and Chinese vessels which were detained in Kelantan. These accounts were published 1849 based on his voyages in 1837/38. As I’ve pointed out earlier on how history can be pervasive, Munshi Abdullah is a problematic figure in Malaysian history. In my eyes Munshi Abdullah can be considered the father of Malay journalism and probably modern Malay literature. Additionally, as an indo-Malayan I look up to him as a revered figure. However, for some he is a colonialist conspirator and an ally to infidels.

Penang is one of those place that many things have remained within the time capsule which they didn’t change much over the years, where you have always kept a special place within your heart just for Penang and every time you are here, you always have that comfort feeling that gives you the tranquility and keeps you recharged. Penang people are proud of their heritage esp their food and philosophy of life.
