teenyBIG | Strategic listening for nonprofits
Emily Taylor works with nonprofit leaders whose organizations are at an inflection point - they’re ready to gain the funding they need for their next stage of growth. Leaders who seek Emily’s expertise know they need to fully show their impact beyond a few good stories but aren’t sure where to go next.
To achieve this, Emily applies her individualized listening methodology with an organization's community, allowing teams to 'see their value' through patterns, measurable shifts, and first-hand quotes. She helps them show their impact through the eyes of those the organization serves and builds clear language around it.
teenyBIG can help you;
- Tell your organization's impact story through the perspective of your constituents
- Build a case for support for funders
- Clarify the value and values of your organization

How Many People Should You Listen To?
What counts for listening? You always need more than an opinion of 1, but then what? You don't need to talk to everybody, that's impossible! But there are some rules to follow for getting great listening results.
How to Observe
What if I told you you could listen with your eyes? Let's not get technical here, what I'm talking about is observation. What can we learn from our audience by observing how they behave or interact with others at events, in virtual programs, or even online? It's a nice way to learn when you aren't feeling very chatty.
Your Internal, Siloed Teams
One of the biggest barriers to offering a cohesive donor experience is internal, siloed teams. I get it - it can feel more efficient to work in a bubble and not collaborate. But, if you aren't looking at your audience's experience with you holistically you are creating a lot of unseen inefficiencies.

But I'm here to make the case to keep reaching out to your audience - you don't need to feel like you are talking in a void, in fact, it is counter-productive. I'd love to know what else you need to know to start ...
Targeting a Specific Audience

There is one thing worse than negative feedback - watch this video to learn what it is and how to turn it into lemonade!
Your Own Bias
We all have biases, but when it comes to thinking about your organization you know it inside and out, along with what works to meet your mission. You are an expert. Your audience is completely outside of that and you may need to peel away your personal bias AND your own organization's bias to really hear what people are saying.
Growing Your Audience
If your audience is diminishing or you'd like to see it diversify, you need to grow your audience. The foundation for starting that work is to listen to the targeted groups you would like to engage with. Learn more about how that can happen in this video.
