This was a lot of fun guys. Well done and Happy New Year.
Happy New Year! Did you have one we should have added to the Top 10 list?
What?! Bob chose the interview with Dr. White as his favorite? Didn’t see that coming. LOL.
There were so many great interviews to choose from! But, yeah... shocker.
SNIPED!
Like old times...
Merry Christmas Cap fans! Thanks for all the work you both put in throughout the year!
Thanks, Gino! Wishing you a captastic New Year!
time 28:12 TMI, for shame.... :)
you're just jealous you didn't think of it first... ;)
Bob is obsessed with the Oakley Blades sunglasses! Love it!!
I did plumbing in Mr. browns house!
I learned a lot. Great interview.
@@jamesfoley2413 Thanks! Fabian was a great guest and very open. It was a pleasure having him on!
Really great interview guys. I really enjoyed this.
@@ginoames glad you enjoyed! Thanks for your feedback. 😊
Great Podcast, not sure if I enjoyed the glove box/compartment debate... which the right answer is Glove Box and you put napkins left over from fast food in there. Or the argument over her hair color (like the dress debate), you two have been doing this long enough to sound like a married couple. you keep making them, I'll keep listening :)
@@jamesfoley2413 a vote for glove box! I think I did say I'm the only one who cares. Thanks for listening and the feedback!
good episode, I had forgotten some of these. I will say I initially was really surprised when you started the show with the song you did. I forgot for a second that this is recorded time early.
Yeah... We were tying into historic presidential campaigns, not the current. And you are correct, this was recorded long before we knew the results of this election.
Good Choice for the season, I appreciate the motivation for Americans to go perform their civic duty but that you did not endorse one side or the other.
No one wants to hear us talk about contemporary politics so you won't find that on our show (but we do have strong opinions). Thanks for the feedback!
Awesome thank you for uploading this..
Glad you enjoyed it! It was a great chat with one of my favorite Cap writers. So many stories behind the stories!
Bob: "can I go on a tangent for a second?" A tangent?? On the Captain America Comic Book Fans Podcast?? Outrageous. I've never heard of such a thing!
@@tomcapboyd it's funny you should say that... That reminds me...
Good ep
Thanks for listening!
I first saw John’s work on my all-time favorite run of JLA stories in 1981. Little did I know he was only 19 when he started on that title. Extraordinary! And, of course, his work got better and better as I followed him, and the great Mike Zeck, onto Cap, Punisher, etc. Thanks guys!
John is certainly an extraordinary ink artist and had an amazing partnership with Mike Zeck for many years. We enjoyed his stories. Thanks for listening!
As a 70s/80s kid, I developed a tremendous fondness for Al. He didn’t mention much about his editing, but as an editor for both DC (pre-implosion) and Marvel, he managed to introduce me to some of the best artists I’ve ever seen. I really loved the editorial runs he had on Bill Mantlo, Sal Buscema, Michael Golden, and Steve Ditko’s runs on Micronauts, Hulk, and Rom. Some of my favorite early comics memories. I also loved Marvel Fanfare. Like Stan Lee and Archie Goodwin, Al cultivated a really fun relationship with his readers through his engaging “editorial-Al” persona and cartooning. His Avengers run with “Sterno” was one of my all-time favorites. His work with Starlin was legendary. And, like Ron Frenz, he maintained an artistic continuity with the early days of Kirby, Ditko, and Ayers. I can’t say enough good about the guy. Thanks to Al and all involved in this interview!
Thanks for listening and your comments, Angus! Al was a real pleasure to have on the show. He had wonderful stories to share and it was fun listening to him talk. A legend!
I really do enjoy the conversations with Dr. Mark D. White. Must been hard to limit talking about Captain America with him. Probably could last hours and hours. I do have book in my amazon cart, need to buy! Thanks again on another GREAT podcast!!! Also Rick, GO COWBOYS!!!
@@DennisRendon-bc1hx we love talking with Professor White! Thanks for listening.
I read this book a few years ago. It was an interesting read. Mainly used it for research on my own patriotic superhero.
I'm sure Jason appreciates that!
I loved this era.
Us too! Thanks for listing. 😊
Looking forward to more interviews with him regarding hopefully more on Scarlet Witch!
We hope to have him back!
yay on Diamonback... go Tom.
@@jamesfoley2413 well I couldn't draft her THREE times in a row! (that's just for Bucky 😉)
It's the winning formula!
Uuuummmmm cap meant foggy in new avengers 1 January 2005 briefly during breakout. But extremely brief.
@@jamescole7930 good catch! 👍 But still off the table as it wasn't a Captain America title.
I absolutely love Bloodstone Hunt and the Crossbones story than follows right after. Diamondback was such a fun addition to Cap's lore, Gru really nailed the Catwoman/Batman or Black Cat/Spider-man dynamic with her and Steve, the eternal boyscout.
Love the analogy to Bat/Cat and Spidey/Cat. Diamondback is definitely a favorite of ours. Thanks for listening!
Looking forward to the full episode!
Bob, I love you but sometimes I worry how many crayons you ate while you were in :) (CAPsoul discussion)
Haha! It took how long before he got it?!?
@@CaptainAmericaComicBookFans I pray he is pulling our leg but he is so convincing I am not sure…
Cap always had this patriotic Indiana Jones vibe to me. He would go anywhere and do anything. Always kind of urked me when people would tell me that he was just useless outside of WW2.
Useless?!? They obviously don't read Cap. Thanks for listening!
The Mark Gruenwald era was when I started reading Cap and it always holds a special.placw in my heart (my first Cap comic was actually#307). Over my 35 plus years of reading Cap, I can truely say the Cap comics have been the longest and most consistent series(s) I have read
So cool you have been reading Cap since the Gru era. We're glad you found us!
So another great example of the Video having a step up on the regular podcast. My wife was laughing at me when we were driving in for yelling at the radio when Rick talking about G.I. Joe and mixing up the dreadnoughts name up. calling Zartan Zaron and talking about Ripper. On the video he posted the G.I. Joe cover. But this is the Captain America comic book fans not Yo Joe.... Ha Ha. Thank you guys for covering this issue. One of my favorite Cap issues. I read it while I was in the hospital as a little kid. It was the issue I got John Beatty to sign at the comic con he was at here.
I thought I heard someone yelling at me! Thanks for correcting me on the name. Now I know. And knowing is half the battle...
He drew Cap like Arnold! My favorite Cap story arc btw
@@matthewdunham1689 Lim did draw a bulkier Cap for sure
Ron Lim drew the best Silver Surfer 🏄♀️ ❤
Cool ❤❤❤❤
I could never go vegetarian I enjoy meat with my veggies too much. This one shot sounds like a must buy to me 😊
@@jackgoblueI never heard of the story before Bob suggested it and liked how a young inexperienced Steve was portrayed. Great one to add to the collection!
I gotta get this one. Didn't know anything about it!
I didn't either until Bob introduced me. Fun story!
Added the issue to my wish list. No idea why I ever got it. Thanks guys for helping my wallet get lighter. Ha HA
Our work here is done...😀
i really liked ron lim on cap. look how good crossbones looks on that cover.
Agreed! We enjoyed Ron Lim's run and wish he stayed longer on the title. Bob would probably prefer a leaner Cap, though. Crossbones is HUGE!
A favorite of mine ❤
Ours too! Fun story.
I remember randomly finding this comic in my college library back in ‘08! A friend and I read the book out loud kind of like how you guys are doing! I’ll never forget the real Cap saying, “Without its ideals… America is a piece of TRASH!” A powerful message for today, even if parts of the story are somewhat dated. Thanks for doing this, and sharing some interesting details and history that I hadn’t heard before!
@@DMVCBN thanks for listening and your feedback! We felt it was a story that spoke to today, as well.
He seemed very animated, this one was way better watching then hearing. Thank you for starting the youtube channel definitely added to this one.
@@jamesfoley2413 thanks for watching! I totally agree this one was worth watching over listening.
Uniform for the sailors was Dungarees. they were bell bottom pants and blue shirts. Underway we wear ball caps. Officer was wearing Dress Blues. when they went on liberty
Thanks for the expert insight, James! You should know!
Loved the bloopers in the end. Any plan to do a bonus episode of the back up stories?
Thanks for listening through the end! No plans right now but if enough people request it...
I thought I was auto approved as a patron. Bob, I would take good care of the Cap 76-78
Great show! I have seen this book in the past but never purchased it. That cover just does NOT call to me lol. But the interior art does look pretty good, so I'm sure I'll be picking it up sooner or later. I loved JM DeMatteis Kraven's Last Hunt story, running in all 3 Spiderman books back in the 80'S. Great story and Great artwork by Mike Zeck! Mr. DeMatteis must have an infinity for Vermin because he was in that story
Thanks for the comments, Walter! DeMatteis is my favorite Cap writer so I was glad to cover this issue. Agreed on Kraven's Last Hunt... Fantastic story!
Oh man!!! I remember this series from when I was a little kid. I really enjoyed it, so thank you two for covering it! One of my favorite lines comes at the end of this series when (Spoiler Alert) Cap is fighting Crossbones with a knife. Crossbones: "it slices, it dices", to which Cap promptly kicks the knife out of Crossbone's hand AND kicks him in the head, and THEN says to Crossbones "it flies out of your hand". For some reason, a THIRD of a CENTURY (34 years) later, I STILL remember this with great fondness. Well done!
Great interview! I'm becoming a bigger Bryan Hitch fan for sure. I really like all of the Ghost Machine books, especially Geiger. I purchased Redcoat # 1 and I am anxiously waiting to see how the series goes. I really love how Captain America in the Ultimates was patterned off of that Cap appearance in the Daredevil Born Again storyline. I find that really interesting. I don't have many Daredevil books, but I did buy that one issue Bryan referenced because I remember reading it when I was a kid. Cap appearing out of nowhere with the Avengers, controlling the situation and commanding Thor to make it rain to put the fires out. Love those two pages. I thought it was really bad ass!
Thanks for watching, Walter! Redcoat #1 was really good and also looking forward to the next issue. And Daredevil Born Again is amazing and well worth the entire read.
Great show! Thanks for sharing images of the pages as you are reading them. It's been a while since I've actually read this book. Steve must've picked the wrong day to stop sniffing glue (yet another Airplane reference) That's why he's grumpy!
Haha! I think Cap sniffed too much glue in this story! Now if we can just get Black Widow to speak jive...
Need to comment on your assessment on page two panel one. I think Jack was not having the second assailant shooting at cap, because no mussel flash, as he has purposely has added to every other weapons discard. So I believe it was a inker and colorist interpretation. Which was incorrect on jacks intention. So not a demerit towards Jack.
I think that would have qualified for a No Prize back in the day!
Thank you guys. It is a fun part of my day now to listen on the drive in and then start TH-cam at my desk to keep the fun going.
Thanks for listening, James! And we humbly apologize to your employer for causing any work shortage...
Steve, do you like movies about gladiators?
Haha perfect!
