Thanks for the great video! I’m new to mixing and audio engineering so this may be a dumb question: Is this mixing only for broadcasting/recording or can this sound be used for live performance as well? If so, do you need to hook up your mac to a mixing console (ex. X32) via audio interface?

this is the kind of video i’ve been wanting to see. it’s unfortunate that groups like bethel music turned their snare tone into a profitable thing - asking people to join an online production course or just overall being super vague and mysterious about it. that church already brings in millions from their records and touring, why do we have to sign up for a course?

Why should I always flip the phase on the bottom snare mic?

Sounds solid! It's worth mentioning that the raw snare track was good, too. Some people's biggest struggle is the fact that their snare or snare mic'ing sounds bad to begin with.

Great video. Love seeing different signal chains! One suggestion (nothing to do with the actual mix but in your video recording) dip your dialogue mic just a bit during the listening examples. The background room noise interferes a great deal with hearing proper details of the changes made.

Wow, sounds pretty good. Using a lot of presets. But that's smart, if they just sound good, why not use them. I don't have that UAD Hitsville Mastering EQ. How can I achieve similar results without that plugin? What does it do? Looks like its boosting lows and highs.

Before you boost or cut it's worth running a frequency analyser on each tom just to be really sure where your fundamental note and your snap is located.

Duplicate the kick track, EQ 1 for tone and low end, EQ the other for punch and snap, mix to flavor

With all that processing, why not just use a sample? IMHO it doesn't sound like a drum anymore. It sounds pretty good, yeah, just...not like an actual drum. A natural, acoustic DRUM.

Thanks Izzy. People need to make more episodes with the channelstrip as it is a powerful too. It can however destroy a sound at the same time. Samples synthesized with some software are fine and dont need a strip, but as a guitarist, drummer, and bassist it is crucial. Not to mention this is also a piece of hardware. I like how you boosting.

63 here! A ton of studio recordings... The tuning part is OK, but I would drop the under mic on your snare... Too much overtone and proximity to your kick... Standard is one snare mic on top catching it and your high hat...
