I think this misses the point by only explaining latency only as a one-direction queue. The problem is responsiveness. When you change what you want (for example, the changing actions of a player in a video game), there's a delay from when you make your request to when the received data responds to it. That's latency. Long queues make this problem worse. But once the data is flowing in the new direction, more bandwidth allows it to flow faster. So latency is a problem when what you want changes from moment to moment and you have to wait for the Internet to respond to your changing desires.

If it is a problem that cannot be solved, then why some people have lower latency than others?
One thing can be distance. The further it has to travel, the longer it takes (of course). But the first problem out of the three mentioned for latency is the buffer. Sure the buffer gets filled, but what more bandwidth can do is decrease your transmission delay. Transmission delay is how long it actually takes for a packet of information to actually be put "on the wire" . Transmission delay is: The size of the packet / bandwidth capacity. So a way to reduce the transmission delay is to increase the bandwidth. That way, your buffer won't be so full all the time (like they showed in problem 1 for latency (delay) ). The faster you can put packets "on the wire" (which is, the smaller the transmission delay) , the less latency you'll see. So in a way, bandwidth *can* reduce latency, but it's not the only problem with latency (hence, problem 2 and 3).

Couldn't watch video but have seen before. If you find it watch it and share with as many as possible. The more people who get on to this the sooner internet providers will have to address the latency issues.
