I would never buy these hubs because who ever designed them with type A usb ports is completely out of touch with what people want. I could understand if this was a PC hub but for these newer mac, all we use are USB C so these hubs are really stupid. Get the CalDigit hubs, they are the best!

Its not the hub per say, the hub is pulling power from the mac, sending the wifi into a lower power state i would ensure there is nothing you can do via terminal the force the wifi to stay in high power mode mode. This is a MASSIVE flaw apple needs to address asap, or find a powered hub that has its own power supply and test it. Or your are using the wrong thunderbolt port on the mini and its not providing enough power , i dont know but this is a mac issue not a hub issue especially when stand alone nvme enclosures cause wifi issues.

I got the 14 core M4 Pro Mac Mini with 16/20 GPU, 48gb RAM, 1TB SSD for no reason whatsoever. I'm just a PC guy. So, even a 1TB SSD sounds insanely small to me. My phone has 1TB. Hell, 4TB sounds so-so. I've got lots and lots of giant VST instrument libraries.

Without at least Thunderbolt 4, it's useless to me.

Looks like the shielded the problem for the mvme drive but still needs shielding in the top. It seems other electronics are causing an issue because as I said I have little to no drop just using the stand only version. Nice review.

My PS5 controller won’t work with Steam games. Steam recognizes and I can easily navigate Big Picture Mode. But when it comes to playing games, even games with controller support, it won’t work. Someone help me 🙏

I recently purchased the HiDock H1, expecting a high-quality device as advertised, but my experience has been disappointing. The AI transcription feature, a major selling point, frequently fails to function properly, rendering it unreliable for meeting notes. Additionally, there's a noticeable audio delay during calls, which disrupts communication. When I reached out to customer support, they attributed the issues to server overloads, offering no concrete solutions. Considering these persistent problems and the lack of effective support, I regret investing in this product.

At first it made my fingers feel like rheumatism but I like it now, i dont use gestures though. The keyboard is similar, nice to use bit there is no 'magic' that i know of. Both overpriced.

For users of Blender, the Magic Mouse is pretty useless as you cannot press down on a middle button to move objects. Logitech is great for this.

I just bought the regular M4 with 32gb unified memory and 512gb storage.. only need it for home use, video downloads and the occasional video edit/export. Will it be beastly enough?

Very useful review. Am not sure sacrificing wifi speed is worth it, but use cases differ.

Thanks for the video. I noticed you mentioned Megabtyes / second many times, despite showing 500Mbps, etc. Mbps refers to Megabits / sec, which is an order of magnitude slower. I just noticed that others have pointed that out as well, but it is worth repeating. The capital “M” is the designator for Megabytes and the lowercase “m” refers to Megabits.

The addition of a hub should not affect the WiFi speed of the Mac Mini at all. Transfer speed between the hub and the Mac Mini would be a better test.

Just received mine (1st version, no HDMI). The wifi speed dropped to 1/3 of the speed as before. I have replaced the cable what they supplied, to a long (1m) one and issue gone away. So probably the very short cable is the issue, what makes some interference.

just received mine, the issue is with the supplied short cable. With a longer one, no problem.

Hi! I have a problem with that, see if someone can help me. I bought the ssd nvme Samsung 970 Evo Plus 1tb with Acasis Enclosure 40gbps no fan. With this set up, and after erasing the ssd to apfs, the enclosure is too hot all day. I haven't put any file yet but does not matter if the mac mini m4 is ON or is on sleeping mode all night, the ssd is too hot, close to burning the hand. Doesn't make any sense. Please, I need a hero here

Something I just noticed is that you do not have anything plugged in to the power port on the back of the hub. Could the Mac mini be slowing down because it is providing power to the hub? I have a USB C power adapter plugged in to my Quiizlab hub (looks the same as yours, even has the gold coating in the drive bay) and I have the same speeds with or without the hub.

Great video i was torn to wait for tb5 name enclosure but got an excellent deal on au green tb4 for £60, half price on Black Friday and 40% p5 crucial 2tb for £120. For my needs its outstanding, tb5 n me enclosure are not available in the uk amazon store, did you order this directly fro. Acasis USA website, hot mich was duty and international shipping? Or were you sent a freebie to review?

Hi! Thanks for the updated video! Based on your initial video, I really suspected it was the ring holder interacting with the WIFi signal creating eddy currents in the aluminum. Wikipedia “eddy currents” to see what I’m talking about. It appears that is not the case. I’m interested to see if the dock was placed on top of the mini how it would perform. All in all, I would agree with you, the speed and older usb ports would be a deal breaker for me right up front. Again thanks for the update. Happy New Year 🎉 from central Florida 🌴🇺🇸

The antenna of the MM is located in the base, carefully and purposefully put there. While the idea of lifting the little pucker seems clever, putting a metal ring around the base is not. Might be the reason for the 10-20% drop in wifi-rate.

Interference from USB 3.0, especially if drive is present, such as thumb drive, or a NVME SSD connected via USB3.0 in a poorly RF screened enclosure, is a widespread problem. I used to find USB 3.0 drives would interfere with Logitech 2.4 GHz wireless adapters for mouse / keyboard if connected to a USB port near another USB port on a Mini PC with a USB drive connected. The solution for me was to a use a USB extension cable to connect the Logitech Wireless adapter so it was at 20 cm away from any USB drive, but that's not practical in your case. The Manufacturer needs to improve the RF screening of components in the hub unit, such as having an earthed metallic coating / foil on the inside of the hub plastic casing.
